Chapter 53 Fifty three
Alexandra turned the phone off, "I think I have to go home." She muttered.
"But you were hungry, weren't you? I could cook something for you real quick." He said, placing his clammy palms on his trousers. Alexandra started at him, he seemed to be heating up. Tiny forms of sweat lined his forehead.
"Don't worry about that. I know your house now, I can come over anytime I like, right?" She asked.
Ryder chuckled, "I know you won't come." He said.
"I have to leave now." Alexandra didn't bother trying to convince him as they both walked out and suddenly, a horn was heard at the gate.
"Are you expecting someone?" Alexandra asked.
"No." Ryder shook his head, pocketing his hands as he opened the gate with the button.
A black sedan sped in immediately, stopping with a screeching sound right in the middle of the compound.
The engine wasn't turned off before the rider came down from the car, Liam.
"What are you doing...."
His feet halted right in front of Alexandra, stopping her sentence.
"I told you I'll be back soon."
"Do I have to wait for you?" She asked, her brows furrowing with displease.
"Alexandra-"
"Don't call my name that way." She shot, eyeing him. "I have the right to go where I want and do whatever I wish to. You can't control me." She snapped.
"I'm not controlling you, Alexandra! I'm....." He stopped, his voice faltering for a moment, "It's fine. I think I've been too bothered." He muttered and glanced at Ryder who gave him a smirk.
Liam gave him a dark look and then turned away to leave when Alexandra's phone started ringing,
"Hello, Cassy."
"Where are you? Liam has been calling and looking for you!?"
"What do you mean!?"
"Didn't you see the news?" Cassidy's voice shook.
"No." Alexandra muttered, "The news about what?"
"Check it, Alexandra and please don't just leave anywhere without informing anybody. You have kids!" Cassidy ended the call immediately.
"What's going on?" She muttered as she checked her phone and the news started popping up. The news was supposed to be about Liam and his company but instead, it was about a sudden earthquake.
"There was an earthquake?" She muttered, her heart beating fast in her ears as she scrolled downwards and that was when she saw it. The picture of the hospital she had been not less than an hour ago. It was completely demolished.
"Liam!" She called out, rushing towards him, her knees buckling beneath her. Just as she was about to fall, he reached out to her and caught her in his arms.
She pulled away almost immediately to look at him and that was when she realized how dirty his suit was and his hair. Dusts and cements were all over his body not to talk about the distressed look on his face. His eyes were glassy, his jaw tight and a scared expression on his face and just like always when he was in a distressed mood, he tightened his fists.
How had she not noticed all of this? She asked herself.
"What did you do?" She asked, her eyes going up and down that someone could think she was glaring at him, "Did you go into the building to search for me?" She shot.
"I thought you were in there."
"Are you crazy!?" She shot before she knew it and her tongue went over her dry lips as she fixed her hand into her hair, her eyes glassy.
"How far do you intend to go? Till your life is taken? You think I'll love you again when you are dead!?" She shot, her face turning red as a tear escaped from her eyes but she cleaned it quickly.
"Alexandra...." He tried to talk but then she walked past him in fury, her shoulder brushing him as she walked away. No one should be so stupid to find someone in an earthquake ground. Not Liam.
A car drove into Ryder's compound and she got into it without waiting, "Please take me home." She muttered.
"Are you crazy?" Stella's shrill voice rang out as she glared at Alexandra, "Get down." She tilted her head towards the door.
"Stella..." Alexandra looked at her with glassy eyes, "Please take me home."
The girl cleared her throat softly, taking a deep breath as she glanced at the two men in front of the compound and then at Alexandra before she turned out of the compound.
SOME MINUTES LATER.
"This should be the lady time you ever ask me for help." Stella said as she stopped the car in front of Alexandra's gate.
"Fine." Alexandra said and got down from the car.
Stella winded down, "He's lost." She suddenly said, stopping Alexandra in her tracks.
"That idiot," Stella scoffed haughtily, "He would never get into that kind of place for me." She said and without waiting, she sped out of the place, leaving Alexandra standing.
She pressed her lips tightly against each other, clenching her jaw tight so she wouldn't cry but the tears didn't stop this time around.
She wasn't angry, of course not. She definitely wasn't angry at him for trying to endanger himself by going into a collapsing building.
She was only mad because he would have died and left the kids behind if she was in there.
Liam was so stupid. She cleaned the tears that escaped from her eyes and walked into her house, right as her phone rang.
"I'm bringing your kids home." Cassidy said the moment she picked up.
"I can't.... I can't see them right now.." Alexandra breathed out.
"No Alexa. Your kids are going to come home and you are going to hug them and apologize for almost leaving them like that. Do you get it, Alexa? Cook something for the kids. We'll be there in an hour." Cassidy snapped and cut the call immediately.
Alexandra took a deep breath as she walked into the house. Her attention went to the TV and she turned it on. The news started immediately.
The reporter talked for a minute and then the video of the collapsing played. After the earthquake, the hospital building had collapsed and Liam was right there, running into the building like it was nothing.
He easily defeated the men who tried to hold him back as he screamed her name.
"Alexa!!"
"Alexandra!!!"
Her body vibrated, tears rushing down her reddened eyes.
"Alexandra!!!" This time around, tears rushed out of his eyes as he finally got in.
