Chapter 20 Twenty
"Babies, I'm going to have dinner with someone. Stay calm, okay. Grandma is going to come later." Alexandra said to Jade and Jace as she walked down the stairs.
They were in front of the TV watching a cartoon since it was weekends. Though Alexa and Louisa had fought heavily last night, she couldn't still leave only her children alone so she decided to call her to come stay with the kids.
Louisa had answered grumpily and had ended the call. But Alexandra knew, she wouldn't miss a chance to stay with the kids. All she hoped for was that her mother wouldn't try to talk the kids into accepting their father.
"Mom, are you going to meet daddy?" Jade turned from her position on the chair and Jace followed too.
"No, I-"
"If you are going to meet daddy, then that dress isn't beautiful at all. You look awful." Jade didn't bother to hide her thoughts as she took a handful of popcorn and forced it into her mouth.
"Jade, stop eating like that." Jace cautioned and she shrugged indifferently.
"You need to change your clothes or else daddy won't think you are pretty at all which is bad." She said after ingesting her food.
"That's not the the point, Jade. Daddy would only think you are not doing well without him." Jace said and Alexandra blinked in shock.
"Jace, why are you talking like that?" She asked immediately, noticing the way he spoke. His words were too mature for a young boy of his age and that bothered her immediately. She had noticed since yesterday when the kids had found who their father was. He was a lot indifferent about it or even mad.
"Daddy has not been here since we were born. Why is he appearing now?" Jace asked as he stared at Alexa and she walked closer to them.
"Yes, mommy. Why is daddy just appearing now?" Jade asked too and she sighed.
"Daddy didn't know at that time." Alexa told them the truth calmly. She thought it was good for Jace's understanding.
"Then he doesn't have to know now either."
"Why would you say that?" Jade hit him and he turned to look at her.
"Jade, aren't you fine with mommy alone?" He shot and Jade looked at Alexa.
"I'm fine with mommy, but not alone!" She fired back, "All my friends have their mommy and daddy and Alice always talks down on me because I don't have a daddy and now I found one, you want me to stay alone. I don't want that. I want my daddy too." She cried and Alexa hugged her immediately to herself.
"Kids, we'll be fine without Liam." She muttered.
"I know mom. All that matters is you."
"That's not all that matters. I want my daddy." Jade said and got down from the chair, going up the stairs and into her room.
Alexa sighed slowly as she dropped her bag and turned to Jace.
"Jace, why don't you want to stay with your dad?" She asked. It was absurd for a child to want to live with only his mom and want his father apart.
"I don't understand why dad has never been here." He admitted as his eyes got watery.
"We've been waiting for him to come back for a long time like you promised, mommy and he's just coming now. I don't want him anymore." A tear slipped out of his eyes.
"But Jace, Jade wants her daddy." Alexa said calmly.
"Then let her stay with him. I'm going to stay with you!" Jace said.
"No, Jace!" Alexa said firmly, "you and your sister are never going to be separated, okay? Never say that again." She cautioned and Jace nodded his head.
"I can't force you to want your daddy but you have to think about your sister too. She's crying in the room right for her daddy and I don't know what to do." Alexa said calmly.
"Then take her to see him. You are going to meet daddy right?" He asked and she nodded.
"Will you come with us?" She asked and he shook his head.
"I don't want to talk with him." He said and she sighed.
"Jace-"
"Why did you and daddy separate, mommy?" He suddenly asked and she blinked.
"Jace, why-"
"I almost thought daddy was one of the stars when he didn't come. So since last year, I always talked to him in the sky. But appearing now, it makes me feel bad." Jace cried all over again and Alexa gulped as her eyes got teary. The children need their father, but she couldn't grant them that.
What if Liam betrays them the way he betrayed her? That would be too worse for her to carry on her shoulders.
"Jace, let's all go see daddy, okay?"
...
"Daddy!!!" Jade's eyes lit up as she saw Liam sitting down the moment they got into the restaurant. It was empty and Alexandra scoffed, the idea of him renting out the whole restaurant seemed really stupid to her.
Did he think they were on a date or something?
Liam caught Jade in his arms and rolled her around in the air, making her giggle happily.
"How are you, my princess?" He smiled and for the first time, Alexandra saw a light in his eyes as he looked at Jade. Something she'd never seen before. She cleared her throat as she sat down on the chair opposite and help Jace to his own seat.
"I'm fine, daddy. I missed you." Jade giggled.
"But you saw me last night." He said.
"I want to be with you all the time." Jade admitted and Alexandra scoffed lightly, Jade had never told her that.
"My little champ, how are you doing?" Liam turned to Jace who just looked away and turned to his mother.
"Mom, what are we eating?" He asked, ignoring Liam.
"Jace, that's not respectful. Daddy is talking to you." Jade frowned and he looked at her.
"I know that!" He shot.
"Jace..."Alexandra placed her hand on his slowly.
"He's your father."
