Chapter 103 103
The police rushed in at that instant and Cassidy immediately threw the hammer underneath a chair when Reed started shouting.
"Help me, this btch is crazy!"
"Mr Reed Miller?" The police man asked and he nodded his head, "You are under arrest for abuse."
"What?"
"He's stable for now. But I think for easy treatment, he has to be returned to New York as fast as possible unless you are going to treat him here." The ending of the sentence, however, ended up as a question. Alexa swallowed nervously, her eyes red.
"We'll take him back home." She simply said and got up, and the doctor stood up with her.
"I'm really sorry, Miss Alexandra." He said.
"Don't be sorry. He is going to heal, you said that yourself." Alexa didn't want to be pitied and she didn't want that for Liam either. He might be bedridden or on a wheelchair but she wanted everyone to know that he was still he same Liam Jordans! A surge of resolve swam into her muscles, giving her strength.
"I know you want him to heal but it also depends on the patient, if Mr Jordans is not ready, then there's be no improvement." He said.
"Liam would be ready." She said with finality and her hands fisted tight as she walked out of his office. She swallowed a deep breath, her eyes firm this time. Crying would not solve the problem, neither would pitying do. What she had to do now was fight for him and made sure he fought for him.
FIFTEEN HOURS LATER
Alexandra stood in front of Antonia with a deep look on her face, waiting for what the woman would say. She had gone inside the hospital to check on Liam, seen him, even Miller had, and yet, they both hadn't said a word since they came out.
"Mo-"
"He can walk again, right?" Antonia suddenly cut her off and she nodded her head.
"Good, that is all I need to hear." Antonia said but her lips quavered and her legs shook as she walked to Alexandra and pulled her into a hug.
"Sarah told us how much you cried." She whispered and Alexa's breathing reasonably increased. The walls she had built hours ago were about to start crumbling again.
"Alexandra!" Miller hit the ground with his stick and looked at her fiercely, "Liam was strong! That's why he was able to collect a bullet in your stead. Be grateful he is still alive, Alexa and this time around, be strong. He needs you now than ever." He said with a strong look and touched her shoulder.
"I've always admired you, I will more now. Thank you for being able to shake his heart this much." He said seriously and Alexa's walls finally broke and her dam of a eyes exploded, tears rushing out. Miller was like a father she never had and even after almost losing his son, he still cared for her. It was so fantastic to have someone like him and Antonia.
"What-" Louisa rushed into the place at that moment, her face knowing it all she she reduced her steps looking at the crying Alexandra.
Her heart arched.
"You are fine, darling. He is back home. We would take care of him." She muttered.
When Alexa got out of Royal hospital, she hailed a cab and got into a ride to her mansion in the upper part of the town. Her eyes passed the streets without even looking at them, they were blank. But she took a deep breath and soon winded the window down, taking in the fresh air. She would be strong. It was her made up mind that no one could change. She had never been in a situation which she couldn't manage and this was not going to be her first.
"Thank you." She whispered when the driver dropped her off and didn't even collect a payment. She knew everything about Liam would be on the news now but she made sure his result at the hospital remained only between them. It was all set could do for now.
It was late when she got in and so she checked up the kids who were sleeping soundly wrapped under the sheets and so close to each other. It seemed Jace had comforted Jade to sleep.
She checked the opposite room and saw Cassidy right there, sleeping too. A friend who'd always been by her side. Alexandra smiled.
For now though, she was going to shuffle between the house and the hospital, till Liam would be discharged and have to go to his house. It was going to be a lot to take care of him but she would manage. What she didn't know was if she'd be able to manage Glamour Holdings for him like she managed Velvet Vixen. It was a company too large and she hoped Miller would just take over that aspect.
She stopped her thoughts, deciding that tomorrow would speak for itself and she went into her room, took a fresh bath and slept off. Things might be bad tonight but who said it couldn't get better in the morning?
It got worse.
"Get out." Liam said right to her face when she stared at him, her bag on the table beside her. She had come here early in the morning and made something his body could easily process for him to eat. He was refusing and he wasn't even staring at her. He had warned previously during the night that no one should come into his ward.
"Liam-"
"You don't have to prove your love to me, Alexa. No. Neither do you have to feel guilty and stay with me. I jumped in front of that bullet to protect you even if that meant dying but I didn't want to wake up in a state like this. In a state where protecting you would be the last thing on my mind." He shook his head.
