Chapter 90 - His Betrayal
The doctor did release me with the stipulation that I remain home for the rest of the week and take it easy. My parents notified the school and my teachers would email me my assignments for the week so I wouldn’t fall too far behind. Joey was going to be home as well so we talked to our parents about allowing us to work at one of the houses on our school work. Our parents seemed reluctant at first but then said that as long as we remained in the living room or kitchen that they would be fine with it, and it would be at Joey’s parents house since they had cameras set up due to past history for Aunt Jessie. We had both already gotten new phones so our parents could reach us at any time during the day. It will be nice being able to hang out with Joey during the day, and later Lily would be there when she got back from school and we could catch up.
I had told Joey about Drew’s visit when I got home and how his girlfriend was a sweetheart and we got along so well. At first I think he was caught off guard by what I was telling him but as I explained everything he was happy how it all went and said he looked forward to getting together with them sometime as well. Joey knew he had nothing to worry about with Drew because first we realized we were just good friends and also he had a girlfriend as well. Joey and I talked for awhile on the phone when I got home and then I fell asleep early amazed by how quickly the pain medication they gave me kicked in.
The next morning I woke up to my alarm and dressed in some comfortable clothing, grabbed my laptop and what materials I had to bring with me. Luckily my school stuff was in the back of Joey's car along with his so those items could be salvaged. Once I had everything I left with my mom so she could drop me off on her way to work, while I was happy for the time with Joey I also would have rather been at school since it was so close to the end of the year.
Joey and I worked on our classwork for most of the day taking small breaks to just cuddle on the couch or sit together on the porch to visit. Since his parents had cameras we didn’t even feel comfortable kissing since we didn’t know who was watching while we were here. We spent that time instead discussing what we wanted to do during our final summer before starting college. We thought it would be a great idea to have a large group campout with our friends and family. With the demands of a college schedule we wanted to utilize our time with family and friends as much as we could. We would bring it up with our parents later but we talked through a couple of options for places to go camping. There were a couple campground options around the Jackel Island area that were possibilities and we knew if our families both joined as well then our parents might have ideas as well.
Eventually the kids started to arrive from school and Lily slammed down her stuff next to us. “You both are lucky, you get to work at your own pace here while I had to suffer through a day there.” She handed us a few folders, “Some of your teachers handed me some assignments to take home, most of your stuff is online in Canvas but these are things you won’t find there.” I took the folders and thanked Lily, I could tell something was bugging her and I knew she needed some girl time. I leaned over and kissed Joey on the cheek, “I am going to go have a few words with Lily, I will be back as soon as we are done.” He smiled and pulled me down for a real kiss, then let me go so I could go with Lily to her room.
“Alright Lily, what is going on with you? I can tell something is bugging you.” She looked at me and I could see she was conflicted. “I tried to muster up the courage to talk to Jeremy today, but when I went to talk to him I saw him being all chummy with another girl. I know we never talked about being exclusive but maybe he doesn’t like me the same as I like him. He might not want to be tied to a girl still in high school while he is off starting college.” I pulled her into a hug, “Lilly I think you are overthinking this. You will never know how he really feels until you have this talk, for all you know, that girl could have just been a friend. Lils, I love you, but I need you to stop thinking of all the things that could go wrong and start thinking about what you can do right now. Tell me what are you going to do right now to fix this?”
She looked at me and then cringed, “I will message Jeremy tonight and ask him to get together with me so we can talk. I’m scared though Josie, I like him so much and I don’t want to lose him. What if I waited too long to have this conversation with him?”
“Lily, you need to think positively and not catastrophize this already. Look at your brother and I, I was too scared to tell him my feelings and then things got more difficult later. You have a chance to possibly avoid all that by having this conversation now. I want you to get a hold of him after I walk out of here and arrange to talk to him.” Lily nodded and I gave her one final hug before leaving her room to return to Joey, I had a few more hours before one of my parents came to pick me up. I hope things work out as well for Lily because she deserves to have a good guy as well too.
