Chapter 92 VICTORY FLAMES
Godiva POV
“Did she pass?” I repeated the same question to Jerald anxiously.
“Yes, she and Leo both passed,” Jerald announced, sounding disappointed.
“Okay, I’m now anxious,” I muttered over the phone, breathing hard. “Give me a few minutes, let’s check ours,” I added and dropped the call immediately without any proper goodbye.
“I need to check mine now,” Dina said to Ben over the call, hanging up too without saying goodbye.
“We are tensed, I hope they understand that,” I said, laughing after Dina dropped her call.
“How about a word of prayer?” Dina suggested, looking terribly tensed.
“That’s the best,” I seconded, joining hands with her as we prayed.
After praying, we rushed downstairs. Thankfully, the mothers and Mr Job were still together interacting.
“Mama, can you guys please do us a favor?” I asked nicely, rotating my eyes from one of them to the other.
“That favor better not demand any more spending,” Mrs Job retorted, laughing.
“Our results are out,” Dina announced out of the blues, making the place go quiet for a while.
Mama finally spoke up. "And?”
“That’s the favor we need from you, we can’t check by ourselves. I mean, we’re too tensed to do that,” I said, taking a deep breath.
“And so, we need you to help us check the results,” Dina continued.
Without waiting for a response, we threw our phones to them and handed them a paper where we had written our access details, then ran back upstairs blocking our ears.
It was barely five minutes after we left when we heard a loud scream from the parlor.
“What was that?” Dina asked, looking at me terrified.
“Do you think it was a good scream or a bad scream?” I asked cluelessly.
While we were still deliberating on the scream, we heard yet another scream, only a little fainter than the first. We quickly dashed out of the room and headed downstairs.
“Congratulations my girls!” Mama screamed, running toward us before we reached the living room where they sat.
Hearing those words from Mama made the world suddenly go silent. I could hear my heart racing with excitement. Falling to the ground, I began shedding tears of joy. If I had thought anyone would cry, it would have been Dina, not me, but for some reason, the success made me feel we were just a step away from finally taking our parents and ourselves out of poverty.
Still in tears, I began worshipping God. Dina joined, and every other person around us joined too. We worshipped briefly before the hugs and jumps began.
“Girl, the boys would have given up waiting by now,” Dina whispered in my ear.
“Shi, how did I forget?” I gasped, taking my phone out in haste as I excused myself from the living room, followed closely by Dina.
“Hey Bling,” I said, pretending to sound downcast.
“Hey pretty,” Jerald returned the vibe calmly. “How was it?”
The thought of pranking him just like he did to me suddenly crossed my mind.
“I didn’t...” I began, about to prank him, when I heard Ben scream excitedly from the background.
“Damn Dina,” I muttered under my breath, clenching my fist as I tried shutting my ears against Jerald and Ben’s loud screams.
“Congratulations to you, my heart,” Jerald finally shouted ecstatically. “I told you, you’re a champion. Nothing will counter that,” he continued proudly.
“Thank you, I really, really love you,” I said, almost tearing up again.
“I really wish I could hug you right now,” Jerald sighed deeply. “How about you switch to video call?” he suggested suddenly, as if he had just remembered there was something like video chat.
“Hell yeah,” I agreed, swapping the call to a video chat.
We spoke on the phone for over an hour before Mama finally called for me.
Dina and I were wowed stepping into the school with our names decorated on a placard and displayed in front of the school. The writing on the placard read, Go get the award girls, congratulations on your first success.
“This definitely has to be Ben and Jerald,” Dina said, blushing uncontrollably.
I kept smiling so hard that my cheeks started to hurt.
Entering into the class, there was no one in sight. As usual, we were the first people in class, or so we thought before someone hugged me suddenly from behind.
“Congratulations my girl,” Jerald beamed, turning me to him as he raised me up through my waist and spun me around before finally dropping me.
“Congratulations Mi amor,” Ben chimed, doing the same thing Jerald did to me, to Dina.
“We’ll be back in a bit,” Ben announced, leading Dina out by her hand.
“Where are you taking my friend?” I shouted after him before he finally went out of sight.
“You come,” Jerald ordered, dragging me to his seat.
“What is it?” I asked minutes after he threw me on his seat and sat on his desk, staring at me.
“Just a minute,” he whispered in a very seductive manner, pressing his lips gently on mine before he violently began kissing me, caressing my back with his palm, while my hands stayed still on his waist since he was sitting on the desk and it was impossible for my hands to reach his neck.
“Wow.” A voice came from behind, making us jumpy. I didn’t realize when I sprang up in panic.
“Broo, that’s not nice, you violated the bro code,” Jerald barked, turning swiftly.
I saw it was Hakeem.
“You both shouldn’t mind me, ride on,” he said sarcastically, still looking at us.
“You’re a psycho,” I muttered, nodding from left to right and shying away.
“Here’s what I got for you, to congratulate you,” Jerald said, taking a petite gift bag from his backpack and handing it to me.
“Wow, okay, this is sick,” I said, blushing. “This means a lot to me,” I added, hugging him tightly.
“Don’t open it now,” Jerald warned the moment I attempted glancing through it.
“Okay master,” I teased, heading to my seat before I sighted Dina walking in with a gift bag also.
