Chapter 85 DATE PREPARATIONS

Chapter 85 DATE PREPARATIONS
Godiva POV

“All the best queen of hearts,” Jerald whispered, gently placing his lips on my forehead as we prepared for the quiz in the library.

“I’ve given you all the yang energy you’d ever need, you’re definitely beating her,” Ben teased Dina, pecking her on the lips.

“By ‘her,’ are you referring to me?” I asked Ben in disbelief, laughing.

“Yes, I meant you,” he replied firmly.

“Let the best man win then,” I said, shaking Dina violently.

The test drill had fifty practice questions we were supposed to answer in less than two hours.

I almost gave up answering the questions at a point before Jerald began massaging my shoulders, suddenly motivating me.

“Done!” “Done!” Dina and I chorused almost at the same time.

“So, how will we go about the marking?” Dina asked curiously.

“I guess the fairest thing to do is for Ben to mark Diva’s, and I will mark yours,” Jerald replied, smiling.

“How am I to believe you won’t deliberately fail my woman?” Ben snapped at Jerald playfully.

“And how do I also trust you not to fail my girl?” Jerald retorted, laughing.

“Guys, let’s be rational, the answers are here, no one is cheating anyone,” Dina said, flipping to the back of the practice theory book.

“It’s time to announce the scores now,” Ben announced after they cross-checked with the marking scheme.

Joining my hands together, I anxiously prayed to be the winner.

“Diva scored forty-three and fifty,” Ben announced, giving me a thumbs up.

“Yayy!” I exclaimed silently before remembering Dina’s score had not been announced.

“Dina had forty-six and forty four,” Jerald declared, smiling hard. “That’s beautiful girls,” he added, giving us a high five.

“So how do we do with our date since we tied?” I asked curiously, laughing.

“I think we’ll split the bills,” Jerald announced, shaking hands with Ben who was laughing hysterically.

“I’ll be right back guys, I skipped something in class,” I announced, standing up from my chair.

For a moment, I got shaky walking through the hallway since everywhere was quiet and empty.

Approaching the twelfth grade, I heard voices coming from the classroom.

“Who’s still in school at this hour?” I whispered to myself, peeping through the window that stood by the hallway.

I was surprised at the sight of Lis and Hakeem caught up in an engrossed conversation. For some reason, I sensed dark energy coming from that circle.

“Are Lis and Hakeem that close?” I asked Jerald after returning from the classroom.

“What do you mean?” Jerald asked, looking confused.

“Nothing really, I saw them in class having what seemed to me like a serious conversation,” I replied, still confused.

“I’m sure Hakeem is pulling her ears, they’ve been sworn enemies since forever,” Ben cut in, laughing as we packed up our books to leave.

“I’m happy we can easily reach you guys now,” Ben said as we walked back home.

“I’m more than excited I get to talk to you whenever,” Jerald added, laughing.

“But guys, is it just me or has this car been following us for a while now?” Dina asked absentmindedly, using the side of her eye to point at a car on the other side of the road.

“That’s actually true, it’s almost as if the car is strolling with us,” I said, looking at the black GLK with tinted glass opposite the road.

“That’s our driver,” Ben responded, laughing.

“Shi Ben, you should have kept them in suspense and scared them further,” Jerald said, laughing his guts out.

“That is not nice,” I said, counting my words as I attempted to hit him, but he dodged.

“Dad has threatened to sack him if we return from school alone again,” Ben explained, smiling.

“And honestly, we wouldn’t want him losing his job because of us, so we suggested this to him,” Jerald added.

“Parting is always a sweet sorrow,” Jerald sighed, hugging me as we stood at the foot of the bridge.

“Why does this sound like a death situation?” I teased, laughing.

“So, how do we do with the date, do we need to tell your Mamas officially?” Ben asked out of the blue.

“Erm, maybe yes,” Dina responded, thinking.

“Wow, I’m already anxious. Standing before your Mama alone is hell, not to talk of seeking her permission to take you on a date,” Jerald said, shuddering and making everyone burst out laughing.

“Don’t worry, Mama is just putting up the attitude so you don’t mess with her girl,” I replied, laughing.

“For now, keep your Saturday free, we may go on our first double date then,” Ben announced, suddenly kissing Dina.

“Eww, how do you even do this in public?” I queried at them, shying away.

“Your turn,” Jerald announced, placing his lips on mine and taking me unawares before kissing me.

“We’ll chat,” Jerald said, waving at me as they got into the car.

“Wow, you are comfortable kissing Jerald!” Dina exclaimed as we walked to the block.

“Just shut up,” I said, blocking my ears and running away from her. I knew she was about to make me frustrated by pestering me about the kiss.

Dina and I spent the rest of the week studying and planning our outfits for the double date.

“Don’t you think this date will come in our way of studying for the competition?” I asked Jerald on a call, a day to the long-awaited date.

“Why, are you already developing cold feet?” Jerald asked, sounding concerned.

“Not exactly, it’s just that the competition is starting next weekend, and I’ll keep feeling guilty if I’m catching fun instead of studying,” I replied anxiously.

“Don’t worry Zhino, see it as you relaxing before the real tension begins,” Jerald assured me.

Later that evening, Mrs Job came in with Dina.

“Hey Mama,” I said, embracing Mrs Job.

“Hey girl,” Mrs Job replied, sitting on the couch.

“We’re going out with the mothers!” Dina announced excitedly.

“I don’t understand,” I said, smiling and looking lost.

“We need to get you girls set for your first date,” Mama replied, walking into the living room with a smile.

“By set, what do you mean?” I asked, looking from one face to the other.

“It means we’ll be taking you to the salon and boutique,” Mrs Job squealed ecstatically.

I genuinely stared at Mama and Mrs Job. I was lost. "This must be some alien typa shit," I muttered.
