Chapter 81 HEART PANIC
Godiva POV
“Why are you ignoring everyone?” Dina whispered in my ears.
I had wanted responding to her, but I felt too weak to do that. I quietly ignored her and went to my desk.
All through the first lecture, I slept without flinching and thankfully the Citizenship teacher didn’t bother waking me up.
“Div, we need to move to the lab, it’s time for Technology Development,” Dina said, patting me gently on my shoulders.
Opening my eyes, I began responding to her, but I believe my words were clashing, and that was the last thing I remembered before blacking out.
I was having a beautiful dream of Jerald and I getting married by the beachside, before I suddenly began waking up to the busy sound of whispers around me.
Opening my eyes, the first person I saw was Jerald’s anxious face holding my hand.
“Zhin, you awake?” Jerald asked, placing his warm palms on my cheek.
“Dina, hurry, call Mama, she’s already waking up,” Jerald added in panic.
I tried resisting, taking his hands off my face, but I was too weak to move an inch.
I woke up fully, and that was the second I realized I was at the hospital, when Dina and Mama rushed into the room accompanied by other nurses.
“How do you feel now?” Mama’s colleague asked, taking out a thermometer.
“I’m a little drowsy, weak and I’m battling with a very serious headache,” I replied inaudibly.
“Yes Miss Diva, the drowsiness and weak feeling you’re getting is a side effect of the medication given to you,” the nurse explained, taking off the thermometer.
“You should rest up a little more, I’ll be back for your evening rounds,” she added and walked away.
“Oh my poor baby,” Mama lamented, moving closer to me.
“I wish I had heeded you when you told me you weren’t feeling alright,” Mama continued, hugging me.
“It’s no problem,” I managed to respond, hugging Mama.
“You will find me at the nurses station if anything comes up,” Mama said to Dina and Jerald, gently placing her lips on my forehead.
“What is the time please?” I managed to ask a little audibly.
“It’s almost three,” Jerald responded, checking his wristwatch.
I hadn’t slept deep when I was woken up by the sound of murmurs and chattering.
Opening my eyes, I was shocked at the sight of a good number of my schoolmates.
“How are you feeling Di?” they all chorused the second they noticed I was already awake.
“I’m fine,” I replied, smiling at Slosh. Since my clash with him in school after the party, he seized talking to me, so I felt grateful seeing him.
“Diva, we came to see how you’re faring, thank God you feel better, may God strengthen you,” the principal said, placing his palms on my shoulder.
After they left, Ben stayed back and was being lovey-dovey with Dina on the couch at the corner of the room, meanwhile, Jerald kept holding on to my hands and staring at me without saying a word.
“Jerald, it’s almost six, we need to head back home,” Ben announced, standing up from the couch.
“So fast?” he asked in disbelief.
“Alright, give me a minute,” he continued.
Taking my palms to his lips, he gently pecked me before letting go of me. Alas, I had wanted resisting, but I was still too weak.
“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Jerald said somberly, taking his bag from the desk that was just right beside him.
“Good-night Diva Godiva,” Ben teased, patting me on the forehead as they both exited.
“How did I find myself here?” I asked Dina when I felt strengthened at night.
“Until what point can you remember?” Dina asked, taking a seat where Jerald was sitting earlier on, beside me.
“Well, I remembered up until when Jerald was talking to me and I wasn’t hearing him properly,” I responded unsure. “Oh no sorry, that wasn’t the last thing I remembered,” I said changing my mind. “I remembered you waking me up for Technology Development class, and I was saying something to you,” I corrected myself, smiling.
“Good, so are you strong enough to hear the remaining detail?” Dina asked smiling.
Without saying a word to her, I smiled at her. From my smile, she knew it was a go ahead.
“You were responding to me after I woke you up, but your words were scattered, I wasn’t understanding anything you were saying. I began laughing at you when your eyes suddenly shut.”
I widened my eyes at her.
“At first I actually thought you were pulling a prank, so I headed to the door sure that you’d follow, before Jerald asked why you were sleeping in that manner. I quickly turned to see your head hanging, you were almost falling off.”
“Oh my God,” I muttered.
“That was when Jerald and I ran to you. We kept calling your name with no response before Jerald tossed me aside, carried you from your desk and rushed to the clinic.”
“What!”
“Yes girl,” Dina laughed. “He carried you like those dramatic Korean actors.”
I chuckled weakly.
“After the nurse at the clinic checked your pulse and some other things, she quickly sent for the school ambulance. Jerald attempted getting in the ambulance, but he was turned down by the nurse, they only let me get in the ambulance.”
“Then how did he get here?” I cut in.
“Chill girl, I’m still on the wheel,” Dina scolded playfully. “We had barely arrived at the hospital when Jerald followed, looking tattered. Apparently, he used the fence and then a taxi to get here,” Dina said, laughing hysterically.
“What!” I exclaimed. “That means he’ll get penalized,” I continued, sounding worried.
“Aww, is this you worrying?” Dina teased and proceeded to humming, “so this is love.”
Dina continued giving me other petty details like people’s reaction when Jerald ran out with me in his arms, before her voice began fading gradually; I fell asleep leaving her talking.
The next day, as expected, Dina refused going to school and insisted on staying with me.
Dina continued glancing at the window as if she was waiting on someone.
“Are you expecting someone?” I asked Dina, being suspicious of her.
“No one,” she replied, sitting on the couch.
When I woke up in the afternoon, I decided to take a stroll, like the nurse said.
“Dina, let’s take a little stroll around,” I suggested, carefully dropping my legs from my bed.
“Okay,” Dina responded ecstatically, all along she had been bored from staying indoors for hours.
We took a stroll to the garden of love and interacted there for over an hour before we decided to head back to the ward.
“Wow!”
“What!”
Dina and I exclaimed the moment we entered into Jerald kneeling, holding a bouquet with a fancy gift bag.
