Chapter 48 THE FALLOUT
Godiva POV
“Why does this sound like your story, Div?” Dina whispered, looking confused. I had already dropped my cutlery even before she spoke, the moment I heard the announcement.
The announcement went on, “the controversy is that the girl is desperate for love and has let her guard down severally, all in her quest for finding love.”
I had had enough. I couldn’t let him say all that. We both stood and ran toward the staircase to the media room as the voice on the speaker continued,
“she was warned from falling in love because of her mother’s bitter experience with men. This girl didn’t heed her mother’s warning and secretly dated Leo.”
My heart pounded against my chest. What the hell is wrong with this boy? He couldn’t just keep his dirty mouth shut.
“She is no one other than Godiva Scott.” The voice finally broke the last straw. Roars and voices echoed from the hall.
At this point, we were both banging loudly on the media room door. It was only at that moment we both realized the voice was that of Jerald.
“This story was told today to let us all know the importance of respecting our parents.”
At this point, I hated his guts. There was absolutely no reason for this. But he wouldn’t stop.
“What an elder sees while sitting, a young child can’t, even if he climbs the highest mountain.”
The voice concluded, and the speaker was turned off.
I could faintly hear the mocking laughter and murmurs of students coming from the dining hall.
The door finally swung open as Jerald stepped out, looking at both of us triumphantly.
“I regret telling you even this little thing,” I said angrily. “You don’t even know you can never shame the shameless.”
“Definitely. Only a shameless person would stay stuck on someone who ridiculed her,” he said mockingly, giving a side smile. That was the first time I thought Jerald’s smile was disgusting.
“And what do you call someone who was almost having sex under the staircase, a public place?” Dina exclaimed, looking him in the eye.
“I guess we can call such a person an embarrassment,” I replied, letting out a mocking laugh at the shocked state of Jerald’s face.
“At least I said what I said out of anger, but guess who has a loose mouth? You!” I exclaimed, clenching my fist.
At this point, I was fuming. “I understand you were having some messed up love trauma as a child, but that doesn’t give you the right to humiliate me because you are in denial.
How... how messed up can you be? How... how... how spoilt can your life be that your only response to feelings is to publicly humiliate the person? You are a weakling! And a looooooser!”
“Easy, girl,” Dina said, holding me back and leading me to the restroom. I didn’t even realize when I burst into tears the second the bathroom door swung open.
“You just need to bring out the tough version of yourself and brace up, because if you don’t, everyone will be in your face mocking you,” Dina said, trying to comfort me.
In between tears, I said, “I didn’t even know why on earth I trusted him enough to tell him something as delicate as that.”
“Girl, if you check it out, it’s nothing so severe, but the manner in which he said it was aimed at ridiculing you, and the fact that he dragged Mama into this was extreme,” Dina added, sounding more pissed.
“You get, why did he drag Mama into this?” I asked, trying hard to stop myself from crying.
“We can’t stay here forever,” Dina added, hugging me.
“Crazy, bro, so her mum didn’t even know she dated Leo,” some girls said as they came into the restroom. They only stopped talking when they saw Dina and me.
Without saying a word to them, we both walked out of the restroom.
The awkwardness that accompanied our entrance into the class was crystal clear. Some began whispering, while others just gave piercing looks without saying a word to us.
“Don’t worry about a thing,” Harris said, dropping a milk drink on my table.
“Thank you, I’m actually not bothered,” I said with a bright smile, pretending to be totally fine. “Thanks for this though, how did you know I was starving?” I continued, holding my stomach.
“Give me this,” Dina commanded, snatching the drink from my hand.
“Bro!” I exclaimed, standing up to drag it with her.
I noticed everyone looking at both of us struggling over the milk in a surprised manner. I’m sure in their hearts, some of them were asking, “isn’t she supposed to be looking somber?” Anyways, that was the point of us dragging over the milk and laughing, so no one would think anything got to me.
“Can’t you accompany me to tutorials today?” I asked Dina, gripping her arms tightly.
“Bro, you know I can’t,” she replied, arrogantly taking my hands off hers.
I almost puked the second I sighted Jerald’s irritating face as I stepped into the Young’s mansion. What I felt for him had suddenly turned to hate, an even stronger hate than the one I had for him before.
“Hello,” I said, waving at Ben as I walked into the mansion.
“Hello. Jenny is in the study waiting for you,” he said, releasing an obviously fake smile. I knew he was equally pissed and maybe ashamed at what Jerald did earlier.
“Why do you look lifeless?” Jenny asked innocently after observing me for a few minutes.
“It’s nothing, girl,” I said, stroking her hair backward and forward.
She made lots of jokes in an attempt to make me smile, but it was to no avail.
“How about I give you assignments and clock out for the day?” I asked Jenny after teaching for barely two hours.
“It’s no problem, miss,” Jenny said, giving me a hug.
I smiled uncontrollably, returning the hug. “You put this the wrong way,” I said to Jenny, adjusting her hair clip.
“I’m really sorry for what happened today,” Ben said, standing in front of me as I was about leaving the study.
“Come on, it’s no problem. You did nothing,” I replied, smiling.
“So, we cool?” he asked, extending his knuckles for a fist bump.
Back at home, Dina was already waiting for me in my room because we were supposed to study for S.M.A.D together.
“Bro, let me rest a while,” I said to Dina as I threw myself on the bed.
We both lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, which was carefully decorated with moon and star stickers that usually glowed in the dark, without saying a word to each other.
“Who is Leo?”
Mama’s voice thundered as the door to my room swung open.
