Chapter 136
Chapter 136
The doctor took a long moment before breaking the silence
“For now, the baby is safe. The heartbeat is normal.”
My eyes shut for a brief second. Relief hit me so hard my knees almost buckled.
“However,” he added, not letting me settle, “this could have gone very wrong. Severe stress, physical trauma, emotional shock, any of these can trigger complications during pregnancy." The concern was clearly visible on his face "You were lucky... they were lucky.”
Lucky.
The word tasted bitter.
We already had a happy family if we were lucky.
“She’ll stay under observation for at least twenty-four hours,” he went on. “We have given her the injection. It will help her sleep. Looking at her condition, it seems like she hasn't slept for nights. She needs rest to recover fast"
I nodded.
"But this doesn't end here. You need to take care of her if you actually want this child"
The doctor studied my face for a moment before tapping my shoulder twice and leaving.
For a second, I stayed where I was. My fists were clenched to my sides. I walked inside the room and saw her from afar.
She was sleeping peacefully.
“I’ll be back, I promise” I murmured, though she couldn’t hear me.
I turned to one of the main nurses, "Take care of her"
She nodded her head. She already knew me.
I was getting restless, and I needed to take it out somewhere, and I knew really well what I had to do. After making sure she was fine, I turned on my heels and walked out of the room. When I came out of the hospital, the driver was already there.
“Warehouse,” I said as I slid into the back seat.
I kept staring at the main road, waiting to reach the destination. I was trying to keep myself calm because that was far more dangerous than rage.
~~ Trigger Warning ~~
Once I reached the warehouse, I went straight for the basement. It smelled like damp concrete and blood.
Kayden was tied to a chair in the center of the room, wrists bound behind him, ankles secured.
Just the way I asked my men.
He looked up when he heard my footsteps.
For a split second, something flickered in his eyes.
Hope.
That was his first mistake. I no longer have any sympathy for him.
I stopped in front of him and crouched so we were eye level.
“You know,” I said calmly, “I asked you to shoot me because I needed to know how far you’d go,” I smirked "And you actually tried to kill me without any hesitation"
I picked up the metal rod resting against the wall.
“That’s when you signed your death sentence.”
Kayden smirked.
"You cannot kill me, Matteo. I am your own blood"
I hummed deeply.
I tilted my head.
“I won’t.” I lifted that rod high "but that doesn't mean I won't show you hell"
"Ahhhh!" An ear-piercing, painful scream tore through his throat when the rod collided against his chest.
"How dare you Kayden!"
The second strike landed on his knee.
"How dare you touch, what's mine!"
"She was mine!" He roared "She was my friend"
"Friend!" I repeated and emphasized the word "she was your friend but you couldn't respect that relationship"
I brought the rod down again, shattering the other knee. His body jerked helplessly against the restraints. His raw and painful screams filled the room, but I felt nothing.
Earlier, I couldn't hear a single painful groan from his mouth, but this time, they felt like music to my ears.
He was the one behind all the ruins. Because of him Serena suffered.
When the thought of him touching her with inappropriate intentions crossed my mind, my hand automatically moved to her shin. I struck the road where the sun doesn't shine.
He yelled, his whole face turned red, his eyes widened to the point of coming out of their sockets.
"No! No! No!" He cried out.
His cries further encouraged me, and I just kept hitting him again and again until my whole body was drenched with sweat.
And then I let go of the rope. It fell on the ground with a loud click.
Slowly I moved around him. He was already half dead but he wasn't showing the pain on his face. His spirit was still alive.
He thinks he can still fight me. He still has the hope of getting Serena.
No brother.
Not anymore.
I stopped in front of him and held his wrist.
"They are the same hands that you used to touch her. Isn't it?" I asked him.
Now he knew what was going on in my head. And it was for the first time, I saw the real fear in his eyes.
One side of my lips, curled up into a smirk as I twisted both of his wrists backward.
"No! No!" He cried out "Let me go"
"She must have said the same thing to you. Didn't she?" I asked him, "But did you let her go?" I asked
"Please... Please. I am your brother..."
"You were my brother," I corrected him. "Now, for me, you are nothing more than the man who kidnapped my woman!"
Two loud cracks echoed in the basement, which was followed by his agonizing, heart-shattering screams.
His bones were gone!
“You’ll never hold a gun again,” I said softly. “Never drag someone by the hair. Never touch her.”
His eyes rolled up in pain, and before I could go forward, he lost consciousness.
"Do not provide him any medical support. Keep him alive. Give him water and food once a day. I want him to live hell on Earth. I want him to repent every second of his life for what he did"
Nick nodded. “Yes, boss.”
I looked at him one last time before leaving the filthy place. The night air hit my face as I stepped outside.
~~
I first went home to clean myself, and wore a new pair of clothes before visiting the hospital. I stayed on the bench for 10 hours without sleeping.
When she woke up I didn't waste a single second in rushing to her.
She froze when she saw me.
I slowed down, forcing myself to respect the distance she needed, even though what I wanted was to rush to her and hug her tightly.
"How are you feeling now?" I asked softly.
She nodded her head.
I let out a breath and sat beside her.
"Serena," I held her hands in mine. "I know I lost the right to ask your forgiveness long ago, but ..." I sighed. "Please... If possible, forgive me"
I looked down as I didn't dare to meet her gaze.
"You..." I licked my lips “You were never supposed to be dragged into my world like this. I gave you so much pain when you were not at fault. I got late in realizing my mistake. But now I would do whatever is in my control"
I sniffed and looked up at her, forcing myself to face whatever I deserved.
“Though it is killing me from inside, yet I am keeping my promise.”
My hands loosened around hers.
“You’re free, Serena,” I said quietly. “From me. From my world. From everything.”
