Chapter 83 Because of Him!
Olivia and Jason went to the gynecology department? What on earth are they doing?
He quickened his pace toward the elevator while dialing Olivia's number.
Olivia had just reached the hospital cafeteria entrance with Jason when she saw Luca's name on the caller ID. She hesitated for a moment but still picked up.
"Where are you?!" Luca's voice was full of anger.
"At the hospital cafeteria. What's wrong?"
"Who are you with? What are you doing at the hospital?" Luca's voice cut through like an icicle.
"With Jason. We came for treatment and to grab something to eat," Olivia answered honestly, though she couldn't figure out why he was so mad all of a sudden.
Luca didn't say another word. He hung up and sped up his steps.
Jason led Olivia into the cafeteria and found a seat by the window. "You can't eat anything too greasy right now. I'll get us some light meals."
Before Olivia could respond, he walked to the counter and soon returned with two meal trays.
One tray had clear chicken broth. The other had a piece of grilled chicken breast and a small portion of steamed carrots—simple dishes suitable for a pregnant woman.
Olivia looked at the food on the tray, her feelings all mixed up.
Jason was always so thoughtful. Meanwhile, Luca did nothing but cause her trouble.
"Eat up before it gets cold," Jason said, handing her the utensils.
Olivia picked up the spoon and sipped the soup slowly. It was plain, but somehow it made her feel at ease.
Two nurses passed by and noticed them, whispering to each other.
"Look, Dr. Compson is so sweet to his girlfriend. He even picked out food that's safe for pregnant women."
"Yeah, I heard his girlfriend isn't in good health. He's always by her side. So enviable."
Jason overheard and quickly looked up to clarify, "You've got it wrong. She's my patient. She's not feeling well, so I'm just looking after her."
The nurses smiled awkwardly and hurried off.
Olivia put down her spoon, feeling even more uneasy.
"Don't worry about what others say. Just eat," Jason noticed her low mood and comforted her softly.
After they finished eating, Jason planned to take Olivia home. But as they reached the entrance, a furious figure stormed into the cafeteria.
It was Luca.
He spotted Olivia and Jason at the door right away, strode over, and without a word, threw a punch at Jason's face.
Caught off guard, Jason took the hit with a dull thud, his head snapping to the side as blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
"Luca! Are you crazy?!" Olivia screamed, rushing to pull him back.
Jason wiped the blood from his mouth, his gaze turning cold as he stood up to face Luca. "What are you doing?"
"What am I doing?" Luca sneered, shoving Olivia aside and lunging at Jason again. "You're messing with my wife while I'm not around, even bringing her to gynecology. What are you up to?"
"Luca, stop it!" Olivia desperately grabbed his arm. "Are you insane? We just came for a checkup and to grab a bite!"
But Luca was too angry to listen. He grabbed Jason by the collar. "I'm warning you, stay away from her! She's my wife!"
Jason got mad too and pushed Luca's hand away. "Luca, can you calm down? Olivia isn't well right now. Don't cause a scene here!"
"Cause a scene?" Luca grew even angrier and swung another punch.
The two started fighting, and passersby began to stare and whisper.
"Stop it! Stop fighting!" Olivia rushed forward to break them apart, but Luca accidentally pushed her, causing her to stumble back a few steps and nearly fall.
This completely set her off. Olivia slapped Luca hard across the face.
The sharp sound echoed, and both men froze.
Luca stared at her in disbelief. "You hit me for Jason?"
Olivia was stunned for a moment but quickly snapped back. "Yes, that's right! Jason has been taking care of me all this time, and you're acting like a lunatic. Luca, I want a divorce, but you've been avoiding me. Now you show up out of nowhere at the hospital to attack him? What do you even want?"
Her eyes burned with anger and resentment. Luca couldn't believe it, his eyes red as he looked at her. "What do I want? I'm doing this for you! And you hit me for some random guy? Don't tell me you want a divorce because of him?"
Seeing him like this, Olivia's frustration and anger boiled over, and she decided to just let it all out. "Yes! It's because of him!"
She pointed at Jason, her voice trembling. "At least he doesn't avoid me, doesn't go back on his word. He cares about my health and remembers what I can and can't eat. And you, Luca? What do you do besides lie and stall? You're the one who wanted a divorce, and I agreed. Now you're backing out and hiding from me. Do you think I'm that easy to mess with? You've got Windy in your heart, but won't let me go. What do you want?"
The more she spoke, the more emotional she got, tears streaming down her face. "And didn't you always want to be with Windy? Fine, I'll make it happen. Let's divorce right now. Stop clinging to me!"
Her words stabbed at Luca's heart. Seeing her cry, he felt both regret and anger.
He wanted to say it wasn't like that, that he changed his mind not because of Windy but because he didn't want to lose her. But the words turned into cold mockery. "Fine! Divorce it is! Who's afraid of who?"
Hearing this, Olivia pulled out the divorce papers she'd prepared long ago from her bag and threw them in front of him. "Sign it! Right now!"
Luca looked at the papers, seeing Olivia's neat signature already on them.
His chest tightened. He grabbed a pen and signed his name without hesitation.
His strokes were sharp, as if venting his anger and frustration.
"Alright, Olivia, you're free!"
After signing, he tossed the papers back to her, didn't even glance at her, and turned to leave.
His back was resolute, showing no trace of lingering.
Olivia picked up the papers, staring at the two names side by side. Tears fell harder, but somehow, she felt a strange sense of relief.
Finally, it was over.
Jason walked over, looking at her red eyes and then at his own bruised cheek, letting out a helpless sigh.
"Come on, I'll take you to get patched up."
Olivia nodded and followed him to the medical room.
While applying the ointment, Olivia kept her head down, clutching the divorce papers tightly, her shoulders trembling slightly.
"Don't be upset. Divorce might be a relief for you," Jason said softly to comfort her.
Olivia looked up, her eyes red but managing a smile. "I'm not upset. I actually feel relieved."
She glanced at the papers, her emotions all tangled up.
There was relief, grievance, and a faint sense of loss she couldn't quite name.
After all, they'd been together for three years. Even if it was a marriage of convenience, it wasn't possible to feel nothing.
But more than that, she felt hopeful for the future. She could finally break free from Luca and this suffocating marriage.
"What's your plan now?" Jason asked.
Olivia thought for a moment and said, "I want to go somewhere no one knows me and start over."
She wanted to see the world, do what she loved, and not be tied down by marriage or hurt by Luca anymore.
Jason nodded, his eyes full of support. "That's a good idea. A new environment will be good for your health and mood."
He paused, then added, "If you need any help, just call me. Whether it's surgery or anything else, I can arrange it for you."
Olivia felt a warmth in her heart and smiled at him. "Thanks, Jason."
For so long, it had been Jason caring for her and helping her. Without him, she didn't know how she would've gotten through this.
After treating the wounds, Jason walked Olivia out of the hospital. "Let me drive you home."
"No, it's okay. I want to walk by myself for a bit," Olivia shook her head.
She needed some time alone to clear her head.
Jason didn't insist, just reminded her, "Be safe. Call me if anything comes up."
Olivia nodded and turned to walk down the street.
