Chapter 82 Avoidance
After sending the message, she stood in the lobby waiting for a reply.
But even after waiting for half an hour, there was still no sign of activity on her phone.
The special assistant nearby watched, feeling a bit awkward, and said, "Madam, why don't you wait in the reception room for a while? Mr. Luca should be back soon."
Olivia shook her head and turned to walk out.
She knew that even if she waited here for a whole day, she wouldn't see Luca.
This man was clearly stalling on purpose.
She stepped out of the company building and stood by the roadside, feeling both angry and helpless.
What should she do? Should she really go tell Linus?
But if she did, Linus would definitely be heartbroken, and it might even affect his health.
She took out her phone and typed another message, her tone much harsher than before:
[Luca, you're such a coward! You don't dare to face me, so you just keep hiding!]
[It's been over between us for a long time! Dragging this out now doesn't do either of us any good!]
[If you still don't have the guts to meet me, I'll send the divorce papers straight to the family estate and let everyone know you're a man who doesn't keep his word!]
[I'm giving you one last chance. You must contact me before 5 p.m. today, or face the consequences!]
After sending the message, she put her phone back in her bag. She didn't return to the family estate but took a taxi back to the villa.
Sitting in the living room, her mind was a mess.
She didn't want to make a big deal out of this, but Luca's attitude was just too much.
She couldn't understand why Luca, who had been so eager to divorce before, was now suddenly backing out.
No matter the reason, she wasn't going to change her mind.
But a week passed like this, with Luca either claiming to be busy or not answering her calls.
Olivia knew in her heart that Luca was doing this on purpose. She gritted her teeth, feeling extremely frustrated.
Soon, it was time for her treatment again. She had to put the divorce matter aside and head to the hospital.
Jason was already waiting in the treatment room. When he saw Olivia come in, he immediately stood up to greet her. "You still look a bit pale. Haven't been resting well lately?"
He reached out to check her forehead, but Olivia instinctively stepped back and shook her head. "I'm okay, just have some things on my mind."
She didn't want to mention Luca avoiding the divorce, not wanting Jason to worry as well.
"Lie down, let's start the treatment," Jason said without pressing further, pointing to the treatment chair nearby.
Olivia obediently lay down, put on the nebulizer mask, and closed her eyes.
As the medicine mixed with the mist slowly entered her nose, her consciousness started to blur, slipping into a half-asleep, half-awake state.
Suddenly, fragmented images flashed before her eyes.
It was a scene from her childhood, with blinding sunlight. She was wearing a white dress, standing by a lake.
In the lake, a little boy was struggling. She held a long branch in her hand, desperately reaching out to him.
"Grab it! Hurry, grab it!" Her voice was choked with tears, her small body trembling.
The boy, in a panic, managed to grab the branch. She pulled with all her strength, the branch digging painfully into her palm.
The scene shifted. She was sitting on the grass, holding a sandwich, with the boy she had just saved beside her.
He was soaking wet but smiling at her. He said something, but she couldn't hear it clearly. All she remembered was the smell of fresh grass in the breeze.
"Olivia? Wake up." Jason's voice pulled her back to reality. Olivia's eyes snapped open, her heart racing.
"How was it? Did you remember something again?" Jason asked, his eyes full of anticipation.
"Yeah." Olivia sat up, catching her breath. "I think I saw myself saving a boy by a lake when I was little."
"A lake? A boy?" Jason's eyes lit up. "Anything else? What did he look like, or did he say anything?"
Olivia shook her head, frowning. "I can't remember clearly. The images are too blurry. I just recall him grabbing the branch I held out and later eating a sandwich together."
Deep down, she had a vague feeling this memory was connected to Luca, but she wasn't sure.
Jason didn't push her further and just comforted her, "It's okay. Remembering this much is already a good start. Take it slow."
Olivia nodded, stayed quiet for a few seconds, then couldn't help but ask, "Jason, how's my condition now? Can I have an abortion surgery yet?"
She couldn't wait any longer. The divorce was dragging on, and so was the issue with the baby. It was weighing heavily on her.
Jason noticed the change in her mood and asked, "Is there a problem with the divorce?"
Olivia bit her lip and told him about Luca avoiding her. "He's deliberately stalling. We agreed to divorce after the party, but now he's acting like a coward, hiding from me."
The more she spoke, the angrier she got, her chest heaving with emotion.
Jason listened, frowning thoughtfully. "If he's suddenly backing out, maybe it's not that he doesn't want a divorce, but…"
He didn't finish his sentence, though he already had a guess. Luca's attitude toward Olivia had always been strange, and now stalling the divorce might mean he's developed real feelings for her and doesn't want to let go.
"But what?" Olivia pressed.
"Nothing." Jason shook his head, not wanting to share his thoughts. "Let's do a check-up first to see how your body's recovering."
He took Olivia to the examination room next door. After a series of tests, Jason looked at the report with a less-than-optimistic expression.
"It's still not possible. Your lung damage hasn't fully healed, and your body is still too weak. Surgery right now would be too risky."
"How much longer do I have to wait?" Olivia's voice carried both frustration and anxiety. She really didn't want any more ties to Luca.
"At least another month, until all your health indicators are stable," Jason said firmly. "I can't risk your life."
Olivia sat on the chair, feeling defeated and frustrated.
Did she really have to wait another month? Who knows what tricks Luca would pull?
Jason saw how down she looked and felt helpless, too. He said, "It's getting late. Let me take you to the cafeteria for something to eat. Don't think too much about it."
Olivia nodded in agreement. As the two left the treatment room, Windy happened to be there for a follow-up check.
She spotted them walking side by side and pulled out her phone, quietly following behind.
At the corner of the hallway, she found the right angle and snapped a photo.
In the picture, Jason was supporting Olivia by the arm, the two of them standing close together, looking quite intimate. The background just happened to show the sign for the gynecology department.
Satisfied, she smirked and sent a message to Luca: [Luca, I saw Olivia and Dr. Jason at the hospital. They were coming out of the gynecology department, and they looked pretty close. Want to come see for yourself?]
After sending the message, she put her phone away, a smug smile on her lips.
She didn't believe Luca could stay calm after seeing this photo.
At that moment, Luca was in a meeting at the company. His phone buzzed, and when he saw the message from Windy along with the photo, his face darkened instantly, looking like a storm was brewing.
He slammed the table hard, startling everyone in the meeting room.
"Meeting adjourned!"
With that, he grabbed his coat and stormed out, his mind filled with the image from the photo.
