Chapter 74 Relationship with Her
Seeing Emma's furious expression, Olivia let out a sigh. "It's my assistant's cousin, Mia. She tricked me into going to the warehouse to stand up for Windy."
She closed her eyes, the fear of being trapped still churning in her heart, and then explained the whole story.
Emma exploded instantly. "How could this happen? Why is Mia connected to Windy? Was Mia acting on her orders? How else would she have the guts to do this?"
Olivia didn't say anything; her eyes just darkened a little.
Even though Mia kept insisting she had nothing to do with Windy, Olivia wasn't convinced. But without proof, she couldn't jump to conclusions.
Thinking of this, she quickly asked Emma to call her assistant.
Emma did as she was told, but after several tries, the assistant's phone was still turned off.
Emma started to suspect something. "Could it be your assistant...?"
Olivia fell silent.
Jason, sitting nearby, spoke up at the right moment. "Don't worry, I've already sent someone to look into it. We'll have news soon."
Olivia nodded, feeling mentally and physically exhausted.
She didn't have the energy to think too much right now. Her body felt drained, and the wound was still faintly aching.
"Focus on getting better," Emma said, noticing Olivia's pale face and quickly changing her tone. "We'll deal with it once you're recovered. We can't let them get away with this. By the way, are you hungry? I brought some plain oatmeal—the doctor said you should stick to easy-to-digest foods since you just woke up."
Olivia was indeed a bit hungry and nodded.
Emma stood up, pulled a bowl of oatmeal from the thermos she'd brought, blew on it gently to cool it down, and spoon-fed Olivia carefully. "Take small sips—don't wanna burn yourself."
Olivia sipped the porridge bit by bit. The warm porridge slid into her stomach, easing her discomfort a little.
The hospital room was quiet, with only the faint clinking of the spoon against the bowl and the steady beeping of the machines.
As Olivia drank the oatmeal, she couldn't help but think about what Mia had said, her mind a complete mess.
She really couldn't understand what she had done to get in their way and why they had to resort to such extreme measures against her.
"Stop overthinking," Emma said.
Olivia didn't respond, just quietly kept sipping the porridge.
For now, she could only take things one step at a time, hoping this mess would end soon so she could leave these troubles behind and start a new life.
After leaving the hospital, Luca immediately called his assistant, his tone as cold as ice. "Use every connection we have to find Mia. Dead or alive."
The assistant didn't dare to delay and hung up, mobilizing all resources to track her down.
Mia had already packed her bags and was holding a fake passport, ready to board a private plane heading overseas.
She thought that once she left the country, even someone as powerful as Luca wouldn't be able to find her. With her family's influence, she could still live a good life. But just as she stepped onto the boarding stairs, several bodyguards in black rushed over and pinned her down.
"What are you doing? Let me go! Do you know who I am? I'm the eldest daughter of the Cavendish family!" Mia struggled, her voice shrill.
The bodyguards ignored her screams and shoved her into a black car parked nearby.
The car sped off and finally stopped in front of a secluded villa.
This was a place Luca used to handle certain private matters, known to very few people.
Mia was dragged into the villa's basement. When she saw Luca sitting on the sofa, her body involuntarily trembled.
Even though she acted tough, she knew Luca's methods. His group didn't reach its current status without some ruthless tactics.
"Luca, why did you grab me? I didn't do anything wrong!" Mia tried to stay calm, attempting to muddy the waters.
Luca glanced up, his gaze slicing across her face like a knife. "Nothing wrong? The fire at Warehouse No. 3 in the suburbs—was that your doing?"
Mia's heart skipped a beat. She didn't expect Luca to find out so quickly. But she calmed herself down. After all, Windy held a special place in Luca's heart. As long as she insisted she acted alone and Windy wasn't involved, Luca wouldn't be too hard on her.
"So what if I did it?" Mia straightened up. "I just couldn't stand Olivia, clinging to the position of Mrs. Luca and stealing Windy's opportunities at the company!"
Hearing that it had nothing to do with Windy, Luca's tense nerves inexplicably relaxed. He knew Windy was too kind to be involved in something like this.
"You did this for Windy?" Luca sneered, standing up and walking over to Mia. "What's your relationship with her? And how did you sneak into the company and become Olivia's assistant?"
Mia lifted her chin, a hint of smugness on her face. "I'm Windy's cousin. She saved me when I was a kid, and I've always wanted to repay her. As for getting into the company, it was easy. Olivia's assistant? I had someone control her mother. I told her either I take her place, or she'd never see her mother again. I even gave her a big sum of money to leave the country and never come back."
She looked completely unafraid. "I'm the eldest daughter of the Cavendish family. You'd better let me go now, or my family won't let you off!"
Luca seemed to find this hilarious. He reached out and gripped her chin, the force making her wince in pain.
"Your family? In my eyes, your so-called influence means nothing." His gaze was dark and menacing. "When Olivia fully recovers, that's when I'll let you go. Until then, you're staying right here. Don't even think about escaping."
Luca turned to his men and ordered, "From now on, no food or water for her without my say-so."
Mia's face turned pale instantly. "Luca! You can't do this to me! I'm Windy's cousin!"
Luca ignored her cries, turned around, and walked out of the basement, instructing the bodyguards, "Keep an eye on her. Don't let her die, but don't let her escape either."
Even after dealing with Mia, Luca didn't feel much relief.
Jason's words stuck in his mind like a thorn. The more he thought about it, the more something felt off. Even though Mia said Windy wasn't involved, the coincidence was hard to ignore.
After hesitating for a moment, Luca decided to go to the hospital to see Windy.
On the drive there, his mind was a mess.
Suddenly, he wondered if, over the years, everyone assumed he and Windy were meant to be together.
Was that why Mia thought getting rid of Olivia would clear the way for Windy to rightfully be by his side? Even he himself seemed to have indulged Windy too much because of that supposed life-saving favor from the past.
When he arrived at the hospital, Windy was leaning against the bed, looking at her phone. Seeing Luca come in, she quickly put it down, her face showing a wronged expression.
Luca sat by the bed and asked directly, "Do you know Mia?"
Windy froze for a moment, then shook her head. "Mia? Who's that? I don't know her."
"She says she's your cousin and that you saved her when she was a kid," Luca said, staring into her eyes, trying to spot any hint of a lie.
