Chapter 70 Car Accident
"Don't worry, I'll give it my all!" Mia said with a sincere look on her face.
Olivia couldn't help but smile when she saw Mia like this. "We won't miss out on any talent."
Hearing this affirmation, Mia's smile grew even brighter, and she was especially happy as she left the room.
That afternoon, while coordinating with Luca, he noticed a new face by Olivia's side. "Did you get a new assistant?"
Olivia replied coldly, "Yeah, the previous one had some family issues." She didn't say anything more to Luca.
Luca nodded but couldn't help glancing at Mia a few more times. He had a feeling that this new assistant looked strangely familiar.
After discussing work matters, Olivia was about to leave when Luca grabbed her arm. "Olivia, do you really have to treat me like this?"
Olivia pulled her hand back, looking a bit puzzled. "Mr. Vettel, hasn't our relationship always been like this?"
It's just that the roles have switched. In the past, she was always kind to Luca, but what about him?
With a hint of sarcasm, Olivia turned and walked away.
Sensing the tense atmosphere between them, Mia was a bit confused. "Olivia, aren't you and Mr. Vettel married? Why do you seem like strangers?"
"Hmm?" Olivia gave Mia a strange look. Realizing she had overstepped, Mia quickly apologized, "Olivia, I'm so sorry. I couldn't help myself." She even stuck out her tongue, probably feeling really embarrassed.
Olivia just hummed in reply and let it drop, though she made a mental note to be more guarded. After all, an assistant should stick to their duties, and this kind of question was clearly out of line.
Worried that Olivia might be upset, Mia quickly changed the topic by holding up the files. "Olivia, here's today's schedule. Besides a meeting after lunch, we also need to check the equipment at the warehouse. And tonight, we have dinner with people from YI Group."
Seeing how detailed Mia's preparations were, Olivia finally felt satisfied.
Given her position, she didn't need to personally check the equipment, but since she was handling this international project, she had to take it seriously.
After the afternoon meeting, Olivia rubbed her tired eyes and got ready to head to the warehouse.
Mia handed her a cup of coffee she had prepared earlier. "Olivia, how about resting a bit before going to the warehouse?"
Olivia shook her head. "No, time is tight. We can't waste any."
A trace of sympathy flashed in Mia's eyes as she sighed. "Olivia, you're really dedicated."
Meanwhile, Luca was about to start a video conference with the president of the international group when he got a call from Windy.
Seeing the caller ID, Luca hesitated for a moment. Windy had arrived at the branch office a few days ago, but he had been so focused on the international project, thinking about how to help Olivia, that he had somewhat neglected Windy.
Feeling a bit guilty, Luca picked up the call.
Windy's voice was thick with a nasal tone, mixed with intermittent sobs, sounding extremely weak.
"Luca... I'm sorry. I know you're busy with important stuff and I shouldn't bother you right now." Her voice trembled, as if she was in great pain. "But I... I was in a car accident. My leg is killing me. I'm here at the hospital by myself, and I have no one to help me..."
Luca's grip on the phone tightened instantly, his brows furrowing. "A car accident? Is it serious? Which hospital are you at?" He instinctively stood up, his mind filled with images of Windy injured, completely forgetting about the meeting agenda.
"I'm at the downtown hospital... The doctor said I might need surgery." Windy's cries grew louder. "My mom's been sick lately, so I didn't want to worry her. I kept thinking about who to call, and you were the only one I could turn to. I know your meeting with the international team is a big deal, but I'm just so scared..."
Luca's heart clenched painfully. The memory of her saving his life back then weighed on him like a stone, making it impossible to ignore her.
He took two steps forward, but his assistant hurriedly stopped him, speaking urgently, "Mr. Vettel, the video conference with the international group starts in five minutes! Henry Brooks values punctuality the most. We can't miss this!"
Hearing this, Luca stopped in his tracks, anger and guilt swirling in his chest, his face looking awful.
On one hand, his lifesaver was in the hospital after a car accident, desperately needing someone by her side. On the other, this partnership was critical for the company's future—there was zero room for error.
"Mr. Vettel, Mr. Brooks is already online waiting. If you leave now, all our previous efforts will be for nothing!" The assistant was sweating with anxiety. "And Mrs. Vettel is also working on this international project. This partnership is important to her, too!"
Luca gritted his teeth, his knuckles turning white from clenching his fists. He knew his assistant was right, but the thought of Windy lying alone in the hospital made it impossible for him to stay calm.
"Delay the meeting by half an hour. I'll go to the hospital and come back right after," Luca decided, his tone leaving no room for argument.
The assistant tried to persuade him again, but Luca's icy glare stopped him. "Do as I say. If anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility."
With that, Luca grabbed his coat and rushed out, his steps so fast they almost stirred up a breeze.
He sped all the way to the hospital and, upon entering the emergency room, saw Windy sitting on a bench. Her left leg was in a thick cast, her pants stained with blood, and her face as pale as paper.
When she saw Luca come in, Windy's tears burst out as she reached for him with a wounded expression. "Luca, you're finally here."
Luca hurried over, squatting down to check her leg, his voice carrying a subtle trace of concern. "What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor said the bone is cracked and I need surgery to fix it, or there might be lasting damage." Windy leaned on his shoulder, trembling as she cried. "I was so scared. I was all alone here with no one to turn to..."
Luca's heart softened completely, all his earlier hesitation and conflict vanishing in an instant.
He patted Windy's back, his tone serious. "Don't be afraid. I'm here with you. I'll handle the surgery arrangements."
He stood up and called his assistant, instructing him to take full charge of the international group's meeting and ensure the partnership stayed on track.
After hanging up, he stayed by Windy's side for the pre-surgery checks, never leaving her, his eyes full of guilt.
He couldn't shake the feeling that it was his recent neglect of Windy that led to her accident.
At the same time, Olivia was in a car heading to the suburban warehouse.
Mia sat in the passenger seat, checking the navigation while chatting with Olivia. "Olivia, it's a bit far. It'll probably take another twenty minutes to get there."
Olivia nodded, pulling out her phone to review the project files, her mind entirely on the project's details. This warehouse inspection couldn't be taken lightly; she had to personally confirm the core equipment parameters.
Just then, her phone buzzed, with Luca's assistant's name flashing on the screen.
Olivia's heart skipped a beat. A call from him at this hour likely meant something had gone wrong.
She quickly answered. "What's up?"
"Mrs. Vettel, bad news!" The assistant's voice was clearly anxious, his panic evident even through the phone. "Mr. Vettel... he delayed the meeting with the international group to accompany Windy for surgery!"
