Chapter 60 Firing Windy
Olivia closed the door, her back pressed tightly against it, her chest still heaving from the vomiting earlier.
She didn't want any more entanglements with Luca right now. All she wanted was to quietly take care of her health and smoothly get a divorce in a month.
For the next few days, Olivia deliberately avoided Luca.
Soon, it was time for her treatment again. Olivia headed to the hospital early in the morning.
Jason was already prepared. "Let's start with an ultrasound to check on the baby and see how your uterus is doing."
Olivia nodded and followed the nurse to the examination room. When she came out, she overheard two nurses chatting in the hallway.
"Windy is so lucky. She just got a small injury on her forehead, and Luca stayed by her side the whole night."
"Yeah, I went to change her dressing at midnight and saw him sitting by her bed. His eyes never left Windy. You can tell he really cares about her."
Olivia paused for a moment, but felt no stir in her heart. She was already used to it.
She looked away and kept walking. Just as she reached the door of Jason's office, her phone rang.
It was the estate butler.
"Madam, Mr. Linus would like you to come over now. He says there's something important to discuss."
Olivia frowned. Why was Grandpa looking for her at this time? Could it be that he found out about the company issue?
"Alright, I'll head over after my checkup."
After hanging up, she walked into the office. Jason was already waiting with the test results. "The baby is stable, and your uterus is in slightly better condition than expected. But there's still a risk with the surgery. Let's wait another two weeks and see."
Olivia let out a sigh of relief. "Thanks."
"You up to somewhere?" Jason could tell what was on her mind.
"Yeah."
"Go ahead. Call me anytime if anything comes up."
Olivia said goodbye to Jason and drove to the estate.
She entered the study and saw Linus sitting on the sofa, looking much better than the last time they met.
"Grandpa."
"Sit." Linus pointed to the chair across from him. "I called you here to talk about something at the company."
Olivia's heart tightened. So it was about that.
"That woman named Windy, did she fall on the company stairs?" Linus got straight to the point.
"Yes." Olivia didn't explain much. The more she said, the messier it would get.
Linus huffed, his tone full of displeasure. "I've heard all about it. She started the trouble first and accused you of pushing her?"
Olivia was surprised that Grandpa knew so much. She hesitated. "Grandpa, it's not what you think. It was an accident."
"An accident?" Linus waved his hand dismissively. "I don't care if it was an accident or not. She disrespected you at the company and spread rumors about you and Luca getting a divorce. She shouldn't be let off easily." He paused, his expression turning serious. "Don't worry, I've got your back. I won't let you be wronged."
Olivia felt a warmth in her heart and quickly said, "Grandpa, there's no need. Luca has already handled this. If we keep pursuing it, it'll only make things worse." She didn't want to get tangled up with Luca and Windy over this, and she didn't want Grandpa to worry about her.
Linus looked at her and sighed. "You're too kind, always thinking of others."
He called the butler in and instructed him, "Contact some shareholders of the group and tell them it's my decision to have that girl Windy fired."
Olivia was startled. "Grandpa, isn't that a bit much?"
"Is it?" Linus's tone was firm. "Having her stay at the company is a risk. Sooner or later, she'll cause you trouble again. And honestly, I don't trust her. It's not good for her to be around Luca, either."
Olivia wanted to say more, but Linus raised a hand to stop her. "Enough. This ends here. You don't need to worry about it." He changed the topic. "How have things been with you and Luca lately? I saw the photos. You two are getting close, aren't you?"
Olivia forced a bitter smile in her heart. That was all just for show.
"We're doing fine. Don't worry," she said, going along with it.
After chatting for a while, Olivia said her goodbyes, though she felt a bit uneasy. Grandpa firing Windy—what would Luca react to that?
She drove back to the company. As soon as she walked into the project department, she saw a group of people gathered in the middle of the office area.
Windy was standing in the crowd, a bandage on her forehead, her eyes red as if she'd been terribly wronged.
When she saw Olivia come in, she immediately ran over crying. "Olivia, I'm begging you, please let me off." She grabbed Olivia's arm, her voice choked with sobs. "I know I was wrong before. I shouldn't have spread rumors about you and Luca getting a divorce. I shouldn't have caused you trouble. My head still hurts, and the doctor said I might end up with a scar. Can't you let me stay, since I'm already hurt?"
The surrounding employees were stunned and started whispering among themselves.
"What's going on? Olivia wants to fire Windy?"
"No wonder Windy is crying so hard. So she's being fired."
"But Windy just got hurt. Isn't it a bit harsh for Olivia to fire her now?"
"Windy looks so pitiful right now..."
The murmurs reached Olivia's ears, and she frowned. She had nothing to do with it. "Windy, I'm not trying to get you fired."
"You're still lying to me!" Windy cried even harder. ""The butler just called HR and said I'm being fired, and it's Linus's decision. Who else would have talked bad about me to him if not you?"
Windy's heart twisted with jealousy and resentment. She was Luca's lifesaver. Why did Linus act like she was invisible and only care about Olivia? And now, he was firing her for Olivia's sake? She couldn't accept it!
Windy clenched her teeth and deliberately raised her voice so everyone could hear. "I know you've always hated me for staying by Luca's side, for taking your place as his secretary. But I swear I never meant to hurt you."
Olivia forcefully shook off her hand. "I didn't say anything bad about you to Linus."
"You're still denying it?" Windy wouldn't let up. "Then why did Linus suddenly decide to fire me?"
The whispers around them grew louder, most people sympathizing with Windy and thinking Olivia was being too harsh.
Olivia felt frustrated and helpless, unable to explain herself.
Just then, a cold voice cut through the noise.
"Enough." Luca strode in from outside the crowd, his face dark and stormy. "What are you all arguing about?"
He had just arrived at the company and walked into this mess in the project department.
When Windy saw Luca, it was like seeing a savior. She immediately rushed over. "Luca, you're finally here. Olivia got Linus to fire me. I begged her to let me off, but she won't even admit she talked to Linus about me." She pointed at her forehead. "I'm still injured. How can she be so heartless?"
Hearing Windy's words, Luca's gaze landed on Olivia with clear displeasure. "Olivia, I was the one who made Windy my assistant, and she's done nothing wrong at work. Getting my grandfather to fire her just because of your own issues is too much!"
