Chapter 34 Hypoglycemia Attack
Olivia's meaning was clear.
Being alone with another man late at night, even if he's a doctor and a friend, just doesn't look right.
Sure, Luca crossed the line today. But if people hear about what happened, they'll probably blame her for being alone with a man after dark and say she wasn't acting like a faithful wife.
Jason sighed and sat down on the floor beside her. "Luca's got a terrible temper—he's basically out of control. It must be rough having to deal with that every day, huh?"
Olivia gave a bitter smile but didn't answer. She rubbed the spot where she'd hurt. "He doesn't hit me or lose his temper usually, but lately... his temper has gotten much worse."
In the past, Luca often didn't come home, and even when he did, he ignored her completely.
Olivia had no idea why Luca had been so quick to get angry and impulsive whenever he saw her recently.
At that moment, Jason got an urgent call from the hospital, and his expression turned serious. He explained to Olivia, "There's an emergency surgery at the hospital. I have to go right now! Your leg..."
"I'm fine, just a little bump. Go, saving lives comes first."
After making sure she was really okay and telling her to ice the injury, Jason hurried off.
After he drove away, Luca slowly stepped out from the shadows behind a tree.
His phone vibrated, and he answered it.
His subordinate's tone was formal. "Sir, as per your instructions, everything at the hospital has been arranged. Jason will be tied up with surgeries until tomorrow afternoon and won't be able to leave."
Luca looked up at the lit window.
For some reason, he just couldn't accept that Olivia had kicked him out, but let that man stay in the house. So, he pulled some strings to make sure Jason wouldn't have time to be with Olivia.
Thinking of Olivia's disappointed, teary eyes, Luca felt a heavy weight in his chest.
The next day, Olivia went to the office as usual, her calf still bruised and sore.
As soon as she stepped into the workspace, she sensed something was off.
A few employees were gathered nearby, whispering to each other.
"Did you see that? Is Luca's lip busted?"
"Yeah, it is! Looks like someone hit him. Who would dare do that?"
"No idea. He was fine yesterday afternoon. Did something happen last night?"
"Shh, stop talking. Olivia's here..."
When they saw her approach, the whispers stopped immediately.
But their curious stares followed her all the way.
One employee came over, full of curiosity. "Olivia, did you see Luca this morning? What's with the injury on his face?"
Olivia smiled casually. "No clue. I'm in a rush to handle some documents, so don't drag me into gossip."
She headed to her office and closed the door.
Soon after, the internal line from the CEO's office rang.
The assistant's tone was polite. "Olivia, the boss needs you to bring the project budget proposal up right away. He has a few questions to confirm in person."
Olivia took a deep breath, gathered the files, and headed to the top floor.
Before knocking, she faintly heard a woman's laughter from inside.
When Olivia pushed the door open, Windy was sitting across from Luca, smiling and chatting about something.
Luca was leaning back in his chair, his expression mostly blank. There was an obvious bruise on his lip, but he looked relaxed, as if he was enjoying the conversation with Windy.
Olivia coughed deliberately to make her presence known.
As soon as she entered, Windy's smile grew even sweeter. She noticed the files in Olivia's hands. "Olivia, you're here to deliver files to Luca? Yesterday, my mom got sick and fainted, and Luca went to help me. I heard you were left alone at the restaurant. Sorry about that."
Though Windy apologized, there wasn't a hint of guilt on her face.
Olivia ignored her provocation. "It's work hours. Let's not talk about personal stuff. Windy, if you've got so much free time, why not come help out in the project department?"
"You..." Windy looked annoyed.
Since Olivia walked in, Luca had been staring at her, completely ignoring Windy's aggrieved expression. "Olivia, how's your injury?"
At his reminder, Olivia felt the pain in her calf again. She replied coolly, "Thanks for asking, but it's none of your business. I've delivered the files. If there's nothing else, I'll go."
Luca frowned. "Wait."
Before he could say more, Windy cut in. "Olivia, you live by yourself, so you really need to watch out. If people start talking about you hanging around with other guys, it's not going to look good for you or Luca."
Olivia rolled her eyes. "Windy, if you've got time to worry about this, why not focus on your sick mother? My personal life is none of your concern."
Windy's face stiffened, and she said with a wronged tone, "Luca, I was just trying to be nice..."
Luca's face tightened, but it wasn't because of Windy. Ever since Olivia walked in, she hadn't even glanced at the cut on his lip.
A wave of anger built up in Luca's chest.
Did she really not care about him at all? Not even a simple "Are you okay?"
Feeling frustrated, Luca reached out and flipped through the files she brought, barely looking at them.
Without much thought, he said in a deep voice, "This budget isn't clear. Take it back and redo it."
Olivia was stunned.
The budget had been double-checked by the team. How could there be a logic issue?
She immediately realized Luca was deliberately making things difficult for her.
Olivia didn't want to argue. She picked up the files. "Fine, I'll take it back and check."
She turned to leave.
Maybe because she hadn't eaten much in the morning, a sudden wave of low blood sugar hit her.
As Olivia reached the door, her vision started to blur. Her legs felt weak, and she grabbed the door handle to keep from falling.
Luca noticed right away. He stood up from his seat, strode over to Olivia, and held her arm. "What's wrong?" His voice carried a hint of worry.
Olivia closed her eyes for a moment, waiting for the dizziness to pass, and tried to pull away from his grip. "I'm fine, just a bit of low blood sugar." She thought to herself that she'd need to carry chocolate with her from now on.
Seeing the sweat on her forehead, Luca frowned, and the anger in his heart vanished instantly. He guided Olivia to the sofa. "Rest here. Don't move."
He went to the break room to grab a blanket and instructed Windy, who was still standing there in a daze. "Windy, go get a glass of juice. Make sure it's high in sugar."
Windy was stunned, her eyes widening in disbelief at what she'd just heard.
Was Luca actually asking her to get juice for Olivia? Was she a servant?
Olivia had just humiliated her moments ago!
Swallowing her anger and jealousy, Windy forced out, "Okay, I'll go now."
Luca didn't even notice Windy's reaction. He lowered his head, focusing on Olivia.
She was leaning back on the sofa with her eyes closed.
Luca softened his voice. "You don't need to revise the files. Just rest here. Sleep for a couple of hours if you need to, and make sure to eat breakfast from now on."
Olivia didn't open her eyes.
Suddenly, she felt a hand grip her calf.
