Chapter 33 Late Night Fight
Olivia was stunned. Before she could stop it, the call ended.
She gripped her phone tightly, curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees, her mind a complete mess.
Soon, the doorbell rang outside.
Olivia opened the door and saw Jason holding a pink box.
Her eyes widened in surprise. "Wait… isn't this from that bakery I used to love?"
Every year on her birthday, her mom would get her a cake from that place.
"Yeah, I knew you'd remember," Jason said with a smile as he walked in. "They were about to close for the day. This is the last one, and I got it for you. I thought if you were feeling down, something sweet might help."
Olivia felt touched.
She hadn't eaten much all day. The steak she had at lunch came back up after Luca left, and now her stomach was aching with hunger.
Olivia stepped aside to let Jason in, closed the door, and joined him at the dining table. "If you'd brought something else, I might not have had the appetite for it. But this cake? I'll finish every last bite."
"Alright, it's all yours. No one's fighting you for it," Jason joked, handing her a spoon.
Olivia took a bite. The sweet cream melted in her mouth.
She squinted her eyes, savoring it. "Wow, it's so good! This is exactly the taste! I'm going back to buy more tomorrow."
Jason smiled at her reaction, stealing a glance at Olivia. There was so much he wanted to say, but he didn't know how to begin.
Olivia noticed his hesitation and put down her spoon. "What's up? If you've got something to say, just say it."
Jason clenched his fist and coughed lightly into it. "Actually, I just wanted to ask… have you and Luca really gotten to the point of divorce?"
Olivia's eyes flickered, and she nodded. "Yeah, we're pretty much there. Before the family gathering, I hope you can keep this a secret for me." She looked at him sincerely. "Can I trust you on that?"
Jason smiled and nodded. "Don't worry, I'll keep it to myself. Whether it's about the pregnancy or this, I won't tell a soul. But… have you thought about what you'll do after the divorce?"
"After the divorce?" Olivia thought for a moment. "First, I focus on getting healthy and having the surgery done. After that, I'll cut ties with Luca for good and start enjoying my life. Maybe I’ll travel somewhere to clear my head."
Jason's gaze grew warm, a hint of tenderness in his eyes. "Do you still have feelings for Luca?"
Olivia went quiet.
If it weren't for Windy, she might still have feelings for Luca.
But now, whatever she felt for him had been worn away completely.
Seeing that Olivia didn't want to answer, Jason quickly changed the subject. "Life goes on. I know you're probably really disappointed in love right now. But I want to tell you, Luca's a jerk, but not everyone will let down their wife like he did."
Jason's comforting words warmed her heart, as if she'd regained some strength.
"Okay, I get it."
"Look at you, you're so hungry your face is pale. Eat the cake," Jason said, not wanting to keep talking about something that made Olivia uncomfortable. He pushed the cake closer to her.
Olivia ate happily, chatting with Jason about old times, and they laughed a lot.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted the cozy atmosphere in the living room.
Who could be knocking this late?
Olivia got up to open the door, and her expression darkened instantly.
Standing there was Luca.
Luca immediately noticed Jason inside. His eyes turned cold, and without even glancing at Olivia, he stormed toward Jason.
"What are you doing here so late?" Luca demanded, his tone full of irritation.
Jason stood up, not backing down from Luca. Thinking about what Olivia went through earlier that day, anger flared up inside him. "I should be asking you that. Luca, shouldn't you be at the hospital by now, taking care of Windy and her mom? How do you have time to show up here?"
"Where I am is none of your business," Luca snapped, grabbing Jason by the collar, his eyes fierce. "I'm asking you, what are your intentions with Olivia? Why are you at her place in the middle of the night?"
He couldn't control his temper, growing angrier by the second.
Today, after handling things at the hospital, he rushed back to the restaurant, only to find Olivia gone. He looked everywhere, but she hadn't gone back to the office or home.
Luca waited at home until late, thinking he'd have the chef make something nice so he could have dinner with Olivia. But even after waiting so long, she didn't come back.
He never expected to find Olivia with Jason again, eating cake together!
Jason stumbled as Luca yanked him, but he still sneered, "You abandoned her for another woman! What right do you have to lay a hand on me? Have you ever acted like a proper husband?"
That comment completely set Luca off.
"Shut up!" he growled, swinging a fist at Jason.
Jason dodged to the side, but his own anger flared up. He fought back.
The two started fighting, knocking over chairs, and the cake on the table fell to the floor.
"Stop it! Don't fight!" Olivia's face went pale with worry as she rushed forward to pull them apart.
In the chaos, Luca didn't see her and swung his arm back hard.
"Ah!" Olivia cried out in pain as his solid arm hit her chin.
She stumbled back, her calf slamming hard against the corner of the table.
Olivia gasped, bending over in pain.
The two men stopped fighting instantly and turned to her.
"Olivia!" Luca let go of Jason and moved to check on her. "Are you okay? Where did you get hurt?"
"Don't touch me!" Olivia pushed his hand away, tears streaming down her face. Her voice trembled. "Luca, get out right now! I don't want to see you!"
Luca's hand froze mid-air.
Olivia's tear-filled eyes were full of disgust and hurt.
Luca had rarely seen Olivia cry. Even when they talked about divorce, she never shed a tear in front of him.
He was so flustered he didn't know what to do, his throat tight, unable to say a word.
"Didn't you hear me? Get out!" Olivia shouted, her whole body shaking.
She'd had enough.
Luca left her alone during the day, came over at night to attack her friend, and even hurt her.
Anything related to Luca never ended well!
Luca clenched his fists, lowered his head in silence for a few seconds, and finally left.
The villa fell quiet.
Jason rushed over, crouching beside Olivia, his voice full of concern. "Does it hurt a lot? Let me take a look."
He reached out to check her injury, but Olivia gently pushed his hand away, rubbing her aching calf and shaking her head.
"No need, Jason. After all, I'm still not divorced…"
