Chapter 29 Stealing a Kiss
"Elena, it's me, Olivia." Olivia's voice was soft, with a hint of a smile.
Elena's tone got excited. "Olivia, it's really you! It's been so long since we last met! How's life after marriage? Is Luca treating you well? Do you have kids now?"
She was very concerned about Olivia's life, asking a string of questions all at once.
But Olivia, thinking about her upcoming divorce with Luca, didn't know how to answer. "I'm doing okay. Listen, I'm calling you today because there's something I want to ask. If you're available, could we meet up sometime? I promise I won't take much of your time.”
Elena agreed right away. "Sure! I'm free anytime. Just send me the address."
Olivia felt a wave of relief and was very grateful to her.
They arranged to meet over the weekend. After that, Olivia chatted briefly with Elena and learned that after returning to her hometown, Elena had married a man who owned a farm.
They were now growing soybeans and raising a lot of cattle, living a simple farming life. Though they weren't wealthy, their days were peaceful and happy.
Knowing that the maid who once took care of her and her mother was living such a good life made Olivia feel happy.
After the call with Elena, Olivia washed up and went to bed.
Late at night, the room was so quiet that only Olivia's steady breathing could be heard.
At that moment, the bedroom door was gently pushed open.
Luca walked in, a faint smell of alcohol lingering around him.
He wasn't too drunk, just a bit unsteady on his feet compared to usual.
Luca walked to the bedside and, by the moonlight streaming through the window, looked at Olivia sleeping. She didn't seem at peace, her brows slightly furrowed as if she was having a bad dream.
Luca stood by the bed for a long time, his gaze growing more complicated.
Thinking about everything that had happened with Olivia recently, he felt a pang of pity and reached out to tuck the blanket around her.
As he got closer, his eyes fell on Olivia's full lips, and his throat tightened.
He remembered that day—the first time he and Olivia slept together. Even though he wasn't fully in control and his mind was hazy, he could still recall every feeling.
The sensation Olivia gave him was just too amazing.
Luca remembered how Olivia looked beneath him, her face flushed, eyes closed, calling his name.
His breathing grew heavier, and he couldn't help but lean down and lightly kiss Olivia's lips.
Afraid of waking her, he quickly straightened up.
Coming to his senses, he was shocked by what he'd just done.
What was he doing? He was determined to divorce Olivia, to end this marriage that had no emotional foundation to begin with. And yet, he had just done something like this!
Frustrated, Luca clenched his fists and turned to the bathroom to take a shower.
On the bed, Olivia slowly opened her eyes.
In the darkness, there was no trace of sleepiness in her gaze, only rejection and coldness.
Luca had kissed her while drunk.
The thought that Luca might have just come back from being with Windy made Olivia feel sick.
She wiped her lips, turned over to face away from the bathroom, and tried to sleep.
In the bathroom, Luca showered, dried off, and changed into a robe. When he came out, he felt much better, and the drunkenness had faded.
He glanced over and saw that Olivia had shifted positions, now facing away from him, seemingly fast asleep.
Luca walked over, lifted the blanket, lay down beside Olivia, and pulled her into his arms.
Olivia, as if touched by something repulsive, quickly shrank back to create some distance.
Her reaction was too obvious—it wasn't just an unconscious movement in her sleep.
Luca's blue eyes narrowed as he stared at Olivia's sleeping face for a few seconds. Suddenly, he reached out, grabbed her shoulder, and turned her to face him.
Olivia was forced to look at him and slowly opened her eyes.
"Are you pretending to sleep?" Luca frowned, studying her with a hint of displeasure in his eyes.
Olivia didn't say anything, just muttered, "Let go of me. This isn't comfortable."
Luca didn't let go. Instead, he adjusted his position, sliding his arm under her and pulling her into his embrace.
His other hand gently rubbed Olivia's back, trying to ease her tense body. His voice softened. "There are about three weeks left until the family party."
Olivia didn't understand why he suddenly brought this up. She stopped struggling and stayed stiffly in his arms. "Yeah, right. What about it?"
Luca rubbed his chin against the top of Olivia's head, catching a whiff of a fresh jasmine scent. He liked the smell and held her a little tighter.
Olivia quickly put her hand over her stomach to protect it from being pressed. Luca didn't notice her small movement.
"During this time, don't keep being so cold to me. We've been married for years. Let's at least spend these last moments peacefully. Don't worry, I won't be as harsh to you as I was before."
Olivia's eyes slowly widened. She never thought someone as proud as Luca would lower himself and soften like this.
Luca's gaze was unusually gentle. "Let's stop fighting and ruining each other's moods, okay?"
Olivia wasn't used to this. Luca had always been dominant and cold toward her, never speaking to her with such patience.
In that moment, Olivia also remembered what Jason had advised her.
Her body needed proper rest. If she kept arguing with Luca and getting emotionally worked up, it wouldn't be good for her health.
Olivia hoped these three weeks could pass calmly. That way, once her body was in better shape and her work was sorted, she could get the divorce and immediately have the surgery.
Three weeks later, everything would be over.
Olivia agreed, "Okay, let's do that."
Hearing her definite answer, Luca relaxed. But for some reason, a sudden sense of joy welled up in his heart.
He adjusted his position and lightly patted Olivia. "Sleep now."
Olivia's body was stiff, but she didn't struggle anymore.
She could smell the scent of the body wash on Luca—the same one she usually used. It felt comforting.
Unable to fight off her sleepiness, Olivia closed her eyes too.
Maybe because of this temporary truce, both of them slept more peacefully than usual.
The next morning, when Luca woke up, he felt surprisingly refreshed.
Beside him, Olivia was curled up under the blanket, half her face buried in it, with only her beautiful eyes and brows visible.
Luca felt a strange sense of satisfaction, something he had never experienced before.
He stared at Olivia for a while before quietly getting up, careful not to wake her.
Two hours later, Olivia finally woke up.
She stretched lazily in bed, went downstairs, and noticed that Luca hadn't gone to the office on time today.
He was sitting at the dining table, looking at his phone, with a small blue box placed beside him.
