Chapter 186 Just an Ex-Boyfriend
In the afternoon, Jason came to see her, holding a bunch of fresh roses.
"Baby, how are you feeling? Headache any better?" Jason put the flowers on the bedside table, his tone still gentle.
Olivia looked up and forced a smile. "Much better, thanks."
"That's good," Jason sat on the edge of the bed and held her hand. "Staying cooped up in the room is boring. Want to walk in the garden? Get some fresh air."
Olivia's heart stirred. This was just what she wanted. The garden had few people, so maybe she could test him.
"Sure," she nodded. "I want to move around a bit, too."
Jason helped her out of bed, and they left the room together, heading to the garden.
The garden was big, full of all kinds of flowers and plants, with a small fountain. It was a nice spot.
But Olivia wasn't in the mood to enjoy it. As she walked, she planned how to bring it up.
"Jason," she stopped suddenly and looked at him. "Some bits flashed in my mind again yesterday."
Jason's eyes tensed up right away, and he gripped her hand tighter. "What bits? Did you remember something?"
"Not really clear," Olivia pretended to be confused. "Just a name popped into my head—Luca. Do you know him?"
When he heard Luca's name, Jason's face changed for a second, though he recovered fast. Olivia caught it.
"Luca?" Jason frowned, his tone full of disdain. "He's just your ex-boyfriend. Bad guy, hurt you bad, that's why you wanted to forget him."
"My ex?" Olivia acted surprised. "How did he hurt me? I don't remember a thing."
"He's selfish and greedy," Jason said, eyes full of hate. "He dated you for your money, then cheated. Treated you awful. You were heartbroken for ages. If I hadn't stuck by you, you'd have been sad even longer. That's why you finally broke it off and chose me."
A spark flashed in Olivia's eyes. She didn't buy it. Sophia had said Luca was her husband, Leo's dad—not some ex.
"Really?" Olivia pretended to half-believe it. "But that name feels different to me. Not as bad as you say."
"Maybe you forgot the bad stuff and just have fuzzy bits left." Jason explained fast, scared she'd suspect. "No reason to think about a guy like that. Better to forget him."
"But I want to see him," Olivia said suddenly. She wanted to see Jason's reaction. "Even if he hurt me, I want to ask him straight up so I can move on for good."
Jason's face turned dark, eyes full of panic. "Why see him? What's the point? He's not worth your time. You'll just get hurt again."
His reaction was too strong. Olivia was sure now—he was hiding something.
Seeing how firm Jason was, Olivia knew pushing more wouldn't work, so she backed off.
"Okay, I won't see him." She looked down, acting disappointed.
Jason finally relaxed. But as he looked at her, his gaze had more suspicion.
That evening, the servant brought Olivia dinner and an incense burner.
"Miss Ross, the master said you've been sleeping bad lately. He wants me to light this calming incense to help you sleep," the servant said politely.
Olivia's heart jumped. Calming incense? Was Jason worried she'd overthink at night and wanted her to sleep sound, or did he have other plans?
She didn't say no and nodded. "Okay, leave it there."
The servant lit it, and a light scent filled the room fast. It did feel relaxing.
Olivia ate a little dinner and lay in bed, pretending to sleep.
She sensed it—after a while, Jason slipped into the room quietly.
He stood by the bed, watching her for a bit, a cold glint in his eyes.
Half an hour later, Jason left her room and called his man right away.
"Go send Luca back," Jason said coldly. "Tell him not to show up again or contact Olivia."
"And find a way to bring Leo here," he paused, eyes hard. "With Leo in my hands, Olivia won't leave me easy."
"Yes, sir," the man replied and left to handle it.
Jason stood there, eyes dark and mean. He couldn't lose Olivia. He'd do anything to keep her.
Meanwhile, Luca was sent to the hospital.
Luca's parents heard and rushed over with Leo.
At the hospital entrance, some strange men blocked them.
"Who are you? What do you want?" Luca's dad Arthur frowned, voice stern.
"We're Mr. Compson's men," the leader stepped up, tone cocky. "Mr. Compson sent us to take Leo back. Miss Ross says she's not going back to Luca. Leo's with her and Mr. Compson from now on."
"Bullshit!" Arthur yelled, eyes blazing. "Olivia would never say that. What's your real game?"
"We're just following orders," the man shrugged. "Miss Ross chose Mr. Compson. She told us to get Leo. That's her call."
"I don't buy it!" Luca's mom Clara stepped up, shielding Leo. "Olivia wouldn't flip like that. You're forcing her!"
"Have Olivia call us herself, or no way you're taking Leo." Arthur said firm, giving off boss energy.
The men glanced at each other. They had no okay to let her call. Jason said grab Leo by force.
"Miss Ross can't call now," the leader snapped, getting annoyed. "We're here for the kid. Don't block us, or we won't be nice."
"Won't be nice?" Arthur laughed coldly. "This is our turf. You gonna mess around here?"
His bodyguards stepped up fast, blocking the men.
The men didn't want a fight. They knew Arthur's power.
"Fine, no cooperation? We'll report back," the leader said, face sour. "But think hard. Miss Ross chose. Keeping Leo won't help you."
Then they turned and left.
