Chapter 17 Wounded Windy

Chapter 17 Wounded Windy

Olivia's heart sank.

So this was Luca's real intention all along.

He might also think that Windy altered the files, but even so, Luca was determined to stop her from settling the score with Windy.

Olivia no longer felt pain, only disgust.

She let out a soft laugh. "Fine, I agree."

Her quick agreement made Luca uneasy. But he didn't think too much of it, assuming Olivia had accepted reality and was too weak to keep fighting. "Rest well. I'll have a nutritionist and a nurse come over."

Luca was prepared to leave. As he opened the door, someone nearly bumped into him.

It was Emma.

She had been standing outside for a while, overhearing their conversation, her face full of anger. She glared at Luca fiercely and squeezed past him into the room.

Luca was annoyed by her glare and was about to say something when Emma quickly spoke up, "That brooch is a keepsake from Olivia's mom! Her disgusting father stole it and gave it to his mistress! You'd better get it back!"

She slammed the door shut, blocking Luca out.

Luca stood outside, hearing Emma's anxious voice from inside. "Olivia! Are you okay? Did that jerk bully you? You…"

He frowned.

So that brooch had such a backstory.

Luca took out his phone, hesitated for a moment, and then dialed Windy's number.

Inside the room, Emma sat by the bed, gripping Olivia's cold hands, angry and heartbroken. "Luca is clearly siding with that tramp! And your father, he's not even human! That brooch…"

"Emma," Olivia interrupted, holding her hand in return. "I'm not just going to settle for getting it back."

Emma didn't understand. "Then why did you just agree not to report it to the board…?"

"I did agree that," Olivia said in a low voice. "But if the company's loss of billions gets 'accidentally' leaked to the shareholders, that's not my problem, right?"

Emma's eyes lit up instantly. "You mean…"

Olivia nodded, her gaze cold. "Once I get my mom's brooch back, I'll…"

Before she could finish, the door was suddenly flung open with a bang! Windy stumbled in.

Both of them were stunned.

Windy's eyes were red and swollen, tears streaming down her face. As soon as she entered, she dropped to her knees in front of Olivia's bed!

"Olivia, I'm begging you! Please let me go!" Windy sobbed, reaching for Olivia's blanket, but Emma blocked her.

"Are you crazy? Get out!" Emma yelled.

Windy ignored Emma, crying so hard she could barely breathe. "I know you hate me, hate my mom, but that brooch was a gift from my mom for my eighteenth birthday! Please don't let Luca take it away!"

Olivia watched her performance with a blank expression.

She had seen these tricks before.

Back then, when her mother discovered her husband's affair, Windy's mother had come to their house crying just like this.

As if everything was the wife's fault.

How amusing.

"Olivia, you have everything—Luca, money. I have nothing, just my mom and this brooch. Please don't make things hard for me, okay?" Windy cried pitifully, as if Olivia was the villain stealing from her.

Emma was shaking with anger. "Windy, have you no shame? That brooch belonged to Olivia's mom! It was your shameless mistress of a mother who took it!"

The more she spoke, the angrier she got, raising her hand to hit Windy. "Your mom's really something, teaching you how to steal men and things. Now you're just like her, stealing someone else's husband!"

"Emma!" Olivia quickly grabbed her, worried she'd actually hit Windy. After all, Windy had Luca protecting her now.

"That's not true!" Windy cried even harder, getting emotional and trying to stand up to argue.

Suddenly, her foot slipped, and with a scream, she fell backward!

"Ah!" Windy hit the ground, her forehead striking the corner of a nearby table!

With a dull thud, blood gushed from her forehead, staining half her face.

"It hurts, help me…" She clutched her head, curling up on the floor.

Olivia and Emma were both stunned, not expecting her to fall like that on her own.

The door swung open.

Luca walked in and saw Windy on the floor, her face covered in blood.

Emma stood nearby, looking like she might have done something.

Olivia sat on the bed, pale and expressionless.

"Windy!" Luca's face changed as he rushed over to help her up. Seeing the blood streaming from her forehead, he was even more shocked.

"Luca, it hurts so much… I'm so dizzy…" Windy leaned weakly against him, tears mixing with blood as they fell. "It's not Olivia or Emma's fault. I wasn't careful, I lost my balance…"

Though Windy said this, her eyes and expression hinted otherwise.

Luca looked up sharply, staring hard at Olivia.

Olivia met his gaze, already knowing what he was thinking.

Even without seeing it himself, he believed from Windy's suggestive look that she and Emma were responsible.

"Emma!" Luca took a deep breath. "I've put up with you for long enough. You're forcing me to take action." He shouted toward the door, "Security! Throw her out! Without my permission, she's not allowed anywhere near this floor!"

Two black-clad bodyguards entered, expressionless, heading straight for Emma.

"Luca, are you blind? She fell on her own!" Emma's eyes were red with anger as the guards grabbed her. She struggled hard. "This tramp is putting on an act, can't you see that?"

"Take her away!" Luca didn't listen.

The guards were dragging Emma out.

"Stop!" Seeing how roughly the guards handled her, Olivia somehow found the strength to throw off her blanket and rush over. She stood between Emma and the guards, arms spread wide, shielding Emma behind her.

Olivia's body trembled slightly, but her eyes were fierce. "Let her go! Windy fell because she lost her balance! This has nothing to do with Emma!"

Luca, holding Windy, was convinced the truth was otherwise. Even if Olivia didn't do it herself, Emma must have. That woman was always losing her temper and had no manners—she must have bullied Windy!

Luca's voice was icy. "Olivia, Windy's bleeding, and to protect your friend, you have the nerve to lie without batting an eye!"

He pointed at the wound and blood on Windy's forehead, his gaze sharp. "Move aside, or don't blame me for having the guards drag you away by force!"

Windy weakly shook her head. "Luca, just let it go."

Luca kept warning Olivia with his eyes.

Seeing how far he'd go for Windy, Olivia's numb heart ached again.

She didn't back down, lifting her chin. "You want the guards to take Emma? Fine, then have them kill me first. Otherwise, I'll fight them with everything I've got!"

The guards hesitated, looking troubled.

After all, the one saying this was Luca's wife.
