Chapter 167 Madman
Olivia went back to the bedside, picked up the phone Jason had given back to her, and kept trying to get a signal. But no matter what she did, it still showed no signal.
She tried to restore her contacts, but she had no access. Common apps wouldn't open either. The phone was just useless.
Right when she had no idea what to do, the doorbell rang.
Olivia's heart skipped a beat. Who was it?
Was it Jason?
What did he want now?
Olivia hesitated, then walked to the door and peeked through the peephole.
Sure enough, it was Jason standing there, holding a phone. She had no clue what he meant by it.
Olivia took a deep breath, opened the door, her face blank. "What do you want now?"
Jason saw how guarded she looked and felt a sharp pain in his chest, but he forced himself to stay calm. "I know you want to reach the outside world. Here's a phone for you. It has signal. You can make calls."
Olivia froze, couldn't believe what she heard.
Jason was giving her a phone she could actually use to call out?
What was he really up to?
"Why are you giving me a phone?" Olivia didn't take it right away. Her eyes were full of doubt and caution.
"I don't want you thinking I'm holding you prisoner." Jason gave a bitter smile. "I just want a chance from you. I'm not trying to hurt you or Leo. This phone works for calls, but please don't rush off. At least think things through before you decide."
Olivia stared at the phone in his hand, unsure.
Was there something wrong with it?
Was Jason bugging it?
If she used it to call someone, would he hear everything?
But this was her only shot to contact the outside right now. Even if it was tapped, she had to try.
"Thanks." Olivia kept it short, took the phone, turned around, shut the door, and locked it again.
She leaned against the door, looking at the phone, her feelings all mixed up.
Was Jason really trying to give her a chance, or did he have some other plan?
Either way, she had to call Luca now and get him to come save her and Leo.
Olivia went to the bed, checked that Leo was still fast asleep, then took the phone to the corner of the room and dialed Luca.
It rang a few times, then connected quickly.
"Hello?" Luca's voice came through, with that familiar deep tone.
Hearing Luca made Olivia's nose sting. She almost cried.
She held back tears and forced a calm tone. "Luca, it's me."
"Olivia?" Luca sounded surprised. "Why are you calling me out of the blue? Something wrong?"
"No, I'm fine." Olivia tried to sound normal. "I took Leo to a parent-child painting camp in the suburbs. Everything's good. Just letting you know so you don't worry."
She couldn't be too obvious, in case Jason was listening nearby. This was the best hint she could give.
But Luca was sharp. He knew something was off right away.
Her voice sounded calm, but if you listened close, there was a tiny shake. And she never called him first unless it was serious.
"You sure you're okay?" Luca's tone turned serious. "Where are you? What's the exact spot of the camp? I'll come get you now."
Olivia's heart raced. She wanted to hint that Jason had her locked up, tell him it was a private villa deep in the mountains.
But before she could say it, a hand snatched the phone.
"Who are you calling?" Jason's voice came from behind, full of anger.
Olivia whipped around. Jason was standing right there, his face dark and scary.
"Jason! What are you doing?" Olivia was shocked and mad, tried to grab the phone back, but he held her down tight.
Jason ignored her, hit end call, and threw the phone on the floor.
It hit with a crack, screen shattered to pieces.
"Olivia, I gave you that phone so you wouldn't call Luca!" Jason got worked up, eyes full of hurt and anger. "I thought you'd think about us. But it's still just Luca in your head!"
"Let me go!" Olivia struggled to break free. "Jason, you lunatic! Let us go now, or Luca will find this place, and you'll regret it!"
"Luca?" Jason sneered. "Even if he finds us, what then? I won't let him take you! Olivia, I've liked you for years. I can't lose you. No way!"
He got more upset, gripping her arm harder. It hurt so much Olivia winced.
"You're hurting me!" she yelled.
Jason realized he was squeezing too hard and let go fast, eyes full of guilt. "Sorry, I didn't mean to. I was just scared you'd leave me."
Olivia rubbed her sore arm. She felt even more disgusted with him.
This guy was totally crazy.
"Jason, snap out of it." Olivia looked at him coldly. "It's never gonna happen between us. Even if you keep me here forever, I won't like you. And you've broken the law by holding me and Leo against our will. Let us go now, and I won't report you. But keep this up, and when Luca gets here, you'll go to jail!"
Jason went pale. He did fear the law, but love had made him lose his head.
But the thought of losing her made him dig in. "I'm not scared! If it means being with you, even jail is worth it!"
"You're impossible!" Olivia shook with anger.
She knew talking more wouldn't help. This guy was beyond saving.
She had to find another way to get out fast.
Jason saw her set face and felt pain, but said, "Get some rest. I won't bother you. Just think it over. Don't let me down."
Then he turned, left the room, and closed the door softly.
Olivia leaned against the wall, staring at the closed door, feeling totally hopeless.
The phone was smashed. She couldn't reach Luca. Bodyguards were watching outside. How could she escape?
