Chapter 146 Vigilance
"You're right, better safe than sorry." Emma nodded. "From now on, when you pick up Leo from school, be on time. Don't give Luca any chance to swoop in."
"Yeah, got it." Olivia took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. "Let's not think about it now. Finish the project first."
She said that, but her mind wouldn't settle. It was full of Luca, Leo, and the question of whether she should leave.
Finally, it was afternoon. With half an hour until Leo got out of school, Olivia closed the studio door early.
She just couldn't relax. She was afraid Luca might show up at the kindergarten suddenly to pick up Leo, so she headed over early to wait.
As soon as she stepped out of the studio building, she felt eyes on her from behind.
Olivia's heart tightened. She glanced back on instinct, but saw nothing.
Was she just being paranoid?
She frowned, quickened her pace, and headed to the parking lot.
What she didn't know was that Windy was in a black sedan not far behind, staring at her back with a vicious glare.
Windy had only found out today that Olivia had opened a studio here. She came to cause trouble and, seeing Olivia rush out, followed her right away.
When Windy saw Olivia park at the kindergarten gate, she got even more confused.
Why was Olivia at a kindergarten? Did she have a kid?
The thought hit her, and a wave of strong unease washed over Windy.
She told the driver to park nearby, then got out and hid behind a tree by the road, staring intently at the kindergarten entrance.
Soon, the dismissal bell rang, and kids started coming out one by one.
Windy scanned the crowd and quickly spotted Olivia.
Olivia hurried to a little boy, bent down, touched his head, and gave him a gentle smile.
The boy looked about four or five, with clear features—especially his eyes, which looked a bit like Luca's when he was little!
Windy's heart felt squeezed tight, and she could barely breathe.
Whose kid was this?
Olivia and Luca's?
No way! Impossible!
When Olivia left back then, she wasn't pregnant. She'd been abroad for years—how could she have a kid this old?
It had to be from some other guy she hooked up with abroad!
Windy relaxed a little at that, but jealousy surged right after.
Even if the kid wasn't Luca's, Olivia had her own happy life now. And her? She'd chased Luca for years and still wasn't his wife.
No, she couldn't let Olivia have it so easy!
She had to tell Luca that Olivia had a kid with another man abroad. Make him hate her for good!
Windy turned and got back in the car, telling the driver to head to Vettel Group.
She was going to share this "great news" and see if Luca still pined for Olivia!
Meanwhile, Olivia had taken Leo's hand and gotten in the car.
"Mom, why'd you come so early today?" Leo asked curiously, fiddling with a sticker on the car window.
"Because Mom wanted to see you sooner." Olivia ruffled his hair, though she still felt uneasy. "Were you good in school today? No fights with the other kids?"
"I was super good. No fights." Leo nodded hard. "Dylan even shared his cookies with me. They were yummy."
"Good boy." Olivia smiled and started the car.
At the same time, in the president’s office at Vettel Group, Luca stared irritably at the files on his desk.
Ever since seeing Olivia and Leo yesterday, he hadn't been able to focus. His mind was full of the mother and son.
He wanted to see them again, talk to Leo more, but he worried Olivia would push him away even more.
Just then, someone knocked on the office door.
"Come in." Luca sounded annoyed.
The door opened, and Windy walked in, looking all pitiful.
"Luca, I have something to tell you." Windy went up to him, her voice choking a bit.
Luca frowned, a bad feeling rising. "What?"
"I saw Olivia earlier." Windy looked down, twisting the hem of her clothes. "She went to pick up a kid from kindergarten. A cute little boy, four or five years old."
Luca's heart skipped. He knew she meant Leo, but he kept cool. "Her kid?"
"Probably." Windy looked up, her eyes hiding some jealousy. "Luca, you think she had him with some guy abroad? She's been gone so long—guys must've been all over her. I heard she had a rough time there. Maybe she got pregnant by someone, got dumped, and that's why she came back."
Windy watched Luca's face closely, hoping for disgust.
But Luca showed no expression, just got colder.
Windy was stirring things up.
"You done?" Luca's voice was icy.
Windy froze. She hadn't expected that. "I... I just wanted to tell you. I'm scared she'll trick you."
"Trick me?" Luca gave a cold laugh. "Trick me how? Even if she has a kid, what's that got to do with you?"
Windy was speechless, her face going pale.
"Luca, I'm doing this for you." Her eyes welled up, tears falling. "I don't want that loose woman fooling you. She had a kid with some guy abroad, and now she's back trying to hook you again. Don't fall for it!"
"Loose woman?" Luca shot to his feet, eyes blazing with anger. "Windy! I know what Olivia's like better than you! Stop spreading lies!"
Windy shook from his intensity but pushed on. "It's true! She's had a kid with someone else—why protect her? I'm the one who really cares about you. If I hadn't saved you back then, you'd be dead!"
"You think I'll put up with you forever just because you saved me once?" Luca's eyes were full of disappointment. "Windy, I've been more than fair to you all these years. Don't push your luck! What goes on between Olivia and me is none of your business. Just watch yourself!"
Windy couldn't believe her ears. Luca was talking to her like this—for Olivia!
"Luca, how can you treat me this way?" she cried. "I like you so much. I'd do anything for you. How can you hurt me like this?"
