Chapter 139 – Bound by Fire
Chapter 139 – Bound by Fire
Nasir's POV
Her voice is weak just like a whisper but hers. Trinity's voice.
"Hold on, Nasir… hold on" she said
The voice tore through me like lightning cutting through darkness above. In one instant, I forgot shadows closing around me, forgot poison dripping off Morgana's lips, forgot the choking shroud of hopelessness she was trying to wrap me in.
She was alive, then the bond between us flickered weakly like embers smoldering beneath ash but embers would continue to smolder. Embers would continue to set the darkness alight.
I snarled at eyes that were not hers but still claimed her flesh "I heard her" I growled, my voice harsh and low with rebellion "You don't claim her, Morgana. You never will"
Her smirk faltered for the first time and by mere hair's breadth but I saw it and I felt it then a crack in her ever-present haughtiness.
"You believe a whisper will rescue you?" she spat, shadows curling like snakes around her fingertips. "She's weak. She's floundering and i'm the one keeping her alive"
I pushed on, past her shadows searing my skin. My wolf raged inside me, tearing and clawing to rip her in half but I held him back. Not yet and not like this.
"You're wrong" I growled, shoving ahead "You're the one drowning and Trinity is the storm that will pull you under"
For a moment, we were stuck there, nose to nose. Her dark fire snapped at my chest but I didn't back away. I couldn't because I could still feel Trinity shaky, trembling but there.
I shut my eyes to Morgana and dove down into the bond. It was like plunging my hand into a patch of thorns and every step wounded me, blazed across my skin but I dug deeper.
Trinity, come back to me. I'm here.
The silence intensified. My heart was thumping, my wolf whined, beseeching and begging.
Then like fire in a storm, her voice again this time was stronger.
Nasir, don't give in to her.
I clenched my fists, fire running through my veins. Shadows curled back but I exploded against them, allowing power to flow through from my wolf.
Morgana sneered, eyes afire "You can't touch her. You'll kill her in the attempt"
I yanked my focus back to her, fury crackling in my chest "Better to die with honor for her than live a second surrendering to you"
The dark queen hesitated for one breath and that was all she required.
I surged forward, shoving her against the wall. Shadows screamed, fire dancing but I didn't falter. My wolf growled, golden fire burning in my veins, struggling back against her darkness.
Her eyes widened "Impossible"
I growled in her face "You've never fought a bonded wolf"
Her power curled and spat at me, tried to strangle me but I held on tight. I pressed my forehead to hers, not Morgana's and breathed "Trinity. It's me and I won't let you get away. Not now. Never."
She shifted in me with a trembling hand reaching back, weak but resolute. The bond burned hotter, so much so that my chest ached from it.
Morgana let out a shriek of rage, ripping through Trinity's body "No! She is mine! Do you hear me? MINE!" she said.
But I didn't look at her and I didn't speak to her.
I spoke to Trinity alone.
You are my mate, my light and my everything. No shadow can erase that.
The bond flared and for the first time since this hell began, Trinity's warmth coursed through me.
Her voice sounded truer than ever. Nasir… I'm here.
I almost lost it right then and there. Relief surged so hard it choked me but I kept going and I wouldn't allow Morgana to know I was weak. Not when we were this close.
"Combat her" I begged aloud, gripping her shoulders "Don't allow her to bury you. Deceive her from the inside out, Trinity and show her you're not weak"
Morgana's lips twisted into a snarl, black flames licking from her mouth "You fool, do you know what will befall her if she resists me? She burns. She shatters and you will never lay eyes on her again"
The threat scraped against me but I did not flinch "Then I'll burn with her. I'll shatter with her because i'd rather be nothing with her than everything without her"
Her anger shattered and I felt her fear. The bond flared again, stronger, hotter and Trinity was forcing.
Her voice burst, not a whisper but a roar out of my body, Morgana!
The shadows recoiled then Morgana screamed, clutching her heart for the first time, she stumbled back, her magic failing.
I seized the moment. I wrapped my hands around Trinity's face and forced her to look at mine, ignoring the queen raging inside her "That's it. Go on and don't you dare stop. Drive her out" she warned
Her eyes flared up as Morgana's black cold fire one instant, Trinity's soft warmth the next. Flickering, as a storm tore itself apart.
Inside me, my wolf snarled, channeling her power, our power.
"Nasir!" Trinity's voice cracked through the chaos "Don't send me away please!" she pleaded.
"I won't!" I vowed, my lips bruising hers, every breath of me pouring into the contact. My love, my rage, my devotion and my soul.
Light flashed between us. Darkness screamed, writhing and retreating, Morgana's scream echoing through the room and then a total silence.
The connection blazed, hotter than it had ever been. I opened my eyes to Trinity staring back at me, tears streaming down her face an my heart broke with relief as i grabbed her so tightly i was afraid I'd squish us both but before i could speak a word, before i could even inhale her perfume once more, the air turned cold then a laugh echoed through the room.
Low, mocking and terrifying.
It wasn't Morgana's voice, as it was blacker, older and hungrier.
"Ah," the voice panted, wriggling out of the shadows curled up at our feet "So little queen thinks she can defy me. How entertaining" she said
The walls shook. Darkness blacker than Morgana began to seep into the room, eating the light we had only just won back.
Trinity wailed, clinging to me "Nasir. it's not over" she said.
And while the ground ripped open around us, a terror began to crawl out of the depths.
Trinity returns for a brief fiery moment but something yet darker than Morgana is uncovered and a thing ancient, a thing hungrier, hungry to devour them both.
