Chapter 122 – The Hidden Truth

Chapter 122 – The Hidden Truth

Trinity's POV
Lily nodded her head and quietly slipped out of the room, leaving me alone with Nasir and the weight of our shared secret. As the door closed behind her with a soft click, I felt my heart sink.
‘She could get in serious trouble for lying to an Alpha,’ I realized with growing horror. ‘What have I done?’
In werewolf society, deceiving pack leadership was considered one of the most serious offenses. The punishments could range from banishment to... worse. And it would all be my fault for dragging her into this mess.
I instinctively backed up as Nasir kept advancing, his predatory grace making every step seem deliberate and calculated.
‘Oh Lord. Did he know we were lying? The thought sent panic shooting through my veins.
Nasir wasn't stupid. He was sharp, observant, and trained from birth to detect threats and deception. If anyone could see through the lie, we didn’t even have time to think about it, it would be him.
My back finally hit the wall with a soft thud, and I realized I had nowhere left to retreat.
Nasir's gaze on me was so intense that it felt like he could see straight through to my soul, reading every guilty thought and fearful secret I was desperately trying to hide.
His eyes held that dangerous gleam that appeared whenever he was operating in full Alpha mode—the look that made lesser wolves submit without question.
‘This is it,’ I thought, my chest tightening with dread. ‘This is the moment I get banned from the pack for good.’
The certainty settled over me like a heavy blanket, suffocating and inescapable.
If Nasir forced the truth out of me about the hex, and the potential danger I could bring to the pack, I was sure the outcome would be swift and merciless.
‘They'll banish me,’ my mind continued its spiral, ‘or even kill me to protect other people.’
The logical part of my brain knew this was their duty as Alphas, their sacred responsibility to put the safety of the pack above all else—even above their supposed mate bond with me.
‘It's always going to be the duty they choose,’ I realized with bitter clarity. ‘Because why would they choose to save wolfless Trinity when they could save the pack that actually belongs here?’
The thought cut deeper than I expected.
Despite everything we'd shared, despite the growing intimacy between us, I was still the outsider.
Still the girl who didn't belong, who couldn't shift, who brought nothing but trouble and danger to everyone around her. When it came down to choosing between me and their pack responsibilities, there really wasn't a choice at all.
‘I've been fooling myself,’ I thought desperately. ‘Thinking that maybe, just maybe, I could find a place here. But I'm just the wolfless girl who's more trouble than she's worth.’
Nasir hadn't broken eye contact with me, and he hadn't moved a muscle either.
He just stood there, studying me with that unnerving intensity that made me feel like a specimen under a microscope. The silence stretched between us, heavy with unspoken accusations and the weight of my guilt.
"Um... Nasir..." I said finally, my voice coming out smaller and more frightened than I intended. "You're scaring me."
“And that's the understatement of the century,” I added silently.
I wasn't just scared—I was terrified. Terrified of what he probably knew, what he would do with that knowledge, and oh so terrified of the consequences that were about to crash down on both Lily and me.
Then that annoyingly cute smirk of his tugged at the corner of his lips, and my heart did that stupid fluttering thing it always did when he smiled, even in the midst of my panic.
The expression transformed his face from intimidating Alpha to something dangerously charming, and I hated how my body still responded to him even when my mind was screaming warnings.
He came even closer, eliminating the last few inches of space between us until I could feel the heat radiating from his body.
His hands came up to rest on either side of my head, palms flat against the wall, effectively trapping me in place with his arms.
The position put his face mere inches from mine, close enough that I could see the flecks of gold in his amber eyes, close enough to smell his intoxicating scent of pine and something uniquely masculine.

‘Oh goddess,’ I thought, my brain short-circuiting as his proximity sent my senses into overdrive. ‘What is he doing?’
"What was that you said about me not being a man?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous, carrying a hint of that wounded pride I'd glimpsed earlier when I was trying to push my limits.
The question took me aback. I didn’t mean for my words to affect him that much. I was half relieved that he wasn’t probing, which meant he believed my lie, but that meant he was here about what I said to him.
The hurt I'd seen flash across his face when I'd questioned his masculinity came flooding back, though, at the time, I thought it was just his ego flaring.
Well… his ego still is, because he wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t.
‘I really hurt him,’ I thought, seeing the way his jaw was clenched, the tension in his shoulders, the careful control he was exerting to keep his emotions in check. My words struck at something fundamental, something that matters to him as both a man and an Alpha.
The conflicting emotions—guilt, defiance, fear, and that persistent physical attraction that seemed to ignore all rational thought—swirled together in my chest like a storm. I was trapped between his arms, trapped between my need to apologize and my stubborn refusal to back down completely.
‘What do I even say?’ I wondered frantically.
“I-I’m a bit hungry; I should go eat something.” I said, clearing my throat and trying to step away from his hold, but he didn’t budge and I was completely trapped between the wall and this deliciously handsome man, who happened to be one of my mates.
The intensity of his gaze, the heat of his body so close to mine, the way his presence seemed to fill every inch of available space—it all made it impossible to think clearly.
My heart was hammering so hard I was sure he could hear it, and I was beginning to feel myself get turned on from his mere proximity.
‘This really wasn’t the time to horny, Trinity. Focus! You still have to learn about the hex and get rid of it.’
