Chapter 78 CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT

Chapter 78 CHAPTER SEVENTY-EIGHT
 EVA’S POV
 Josh: Hey.
Josh: Can I see you for a minute?
My phone buzzing by my side pulled me out of my thoughts. I immediately looked around me, a sigh leaving my lips as I realized I was still alone.
 Eva: How?
Josh: Can you come to my room?
Eva: Lily is downstairs. What if I run into her?
Eva: Or she returns and I’m nowhere to be found?
 Josh: Okay.
Josh: I’ll come to you then.
“What?” I blurted out loud, the phone almost slipping out of my hands. I immediately rose to my feet and for the dozenth time, looked around me like Lily was still somewhere in the room.
I picked up the phone again, refreshing the page in hopes of a new message from Josh. There was none though and before I could send one myself, I heard the door in front of me open.
 “You—”
The rest of my words didn't make it out, my phone already his behind me. I’d expected to see Lily by the door but taking me by surprise, Josh actually appeared.
“What are you doing here?” my whole body felt tensed up as I watched him gently shut the door behind him. “You actually came.”
“I wanted to see you,” he was now leaning against the door. “So, I needed to do something.”
The tension slowly left my body, my shoulders slumping. I blinked as I began to walk towards him, slowly dropping my phone on the bed as I did.
“Lily might be here anytime soon,” I whispered as I dared to close the distance between us. “She just went to grab—”
“We should take advantage of the little time we have to the fullest then,” he cut me off, stretching his arm to reach out to me. He easily found my waist, immediately pulling me into an embrace.
 “I missed you.”
The words were so simple, but they did something to me that I wished they didn't.
My body tensed up again as I slowly hugged him back, his embrace only getting tighter as his palm gently caressed my hair and back. I pressed my face against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat and trying desperately to ignore what it was doing to mine.
“Lily—”
“Two minutes, okay?” he kissed my hair, refusing to let go. “She won’t be back for at least two minutes so let’s stay like this for two minutes.”
My lips parted to object again but my body betrayed me, leaving me with no choice but to stay in place.
“One minute more,” I heard him breath out.
My eyes had been firmly shut the entire time and I was too focused on the loud sound of his beating heart and at the same time, my attempts to keep mine calm to notice how much time had actually passed.
“We have less than a minute now.”
He pulled away from the hug, a soft sigh escaping my lips as our body left contact. My eyes fluttered and before I could leave them open for longer than a second, I was forced to shut them again, Josh placing his lips against mine.
Our lips moved against each others as we tried to make the most out of a minute. My hands found his hair and his found the hem of my blouse, both hands going exploring for what definitely felt longer than a minute.
We pulled away for a second to catch our breaths, Josh’s back firmly pressed against the door as I returned my lips to his. His hands moved swiftly again and this time, he took a step forward from the door to lift me up.
Only for his movements to be interrupted by a shove against the door from outside.
 “Eva?”
The speed was quicker than lightening. I immediately stepped away from him, putting several feet between us as Josh did the same, the door slowly opening to reveal Lily.
“Josh?” she no longer looked in my direction. “What are you doing here?”
“Huh?” He ran his hands through his dishevelled hair, like he was trying to give his fingers the credit for its state. “I came to see you.”
Josh was doing a good job at keeping his breathing under control while I simply pressed my lips together in desperate attempts to catch my breath. My hands tingled by my side as I stopped myself from pressing it against my chest and then sneakily adjust my blouse.
“What were the two of you doing?” Lily’s eyes narrowed towards me. I ignored it, swinging my arms as I walked over to the bed to pick up my phone. “Why do you look—”
“I need your opinion on what to wear,” Josh cut in, straightening his shirt. “You know I have a gala to attend tonight. I’m not sure which tux to choose.”
“And you’re asking for my opinion?” Lily finally walked further into the room, dropping the plate on the bed. “Since when did you start caring about what I think about your clothing choices?”
“I have no one else to ask,” I heard him say as I mindlessly scrolled through my phone. “Come on, you’d just be choosing between two different designs.”
“Call Indianna and ask for her opinion,” Lily sat on the bed, reaching for a piece of the toast. “You’re going to the gala together, aren’t you? Her opinion should matter the most to you.”
“It doesn’t,” he replied. Before I could stop myself, I looked up at him, our eyes immediately meeting. “I care about your opinion the most right now.”
“Aren’t you hungry?” Lily shifted the plate towards me, having me quickly look away from him. “I made enough for the two of us.”
“Right, yeah, I am, thanks,” I grabbed a toast and took a bite. “Thanks.”
I could feel Lily’s eyes on me as I took the bite followed by another. She watched me until I finished the entire thing and then rose to my feet to grab a glass of water.
I’d taken a gulp before she finally shifted her gaze from me to face her brother.
“You said there’s just two different tuxes to choose from, right?”
 “Yes.”
 “Lead the way then.”
