Chapter 60
Aria
"Hunter..." His name fell off my lips before I even knew it.
"I see...so your mate's here." He spoke, lowly, "Too bad he has invited his own death."
"Or maybe, it's you who's going to die."
He laughed, looking at me in disbelief, "You really think so? Guess, you can comfort yourself by saying that but for now, my beta and gamma are enough to take care of your mate since after defeating all the rouges I put to guard, it's impossible for him to defeat them."
"You are really a victim of the disease that destroys people, and you know what it is? It's your fucking overconfidence." I spat.
"But as far as I can see it's you and your mate who are going through the demolition," He said raising one of his eyebrows, "Anyways, let's see what's your mate doing downstairs...has he died yet or not, perhaps—" A loud growl of Hunter buzzed throughout the mansion once again causing Knight to stop in the midway of his sentence.
"Or maybe, he just killed your dear companions." It was my turn to raise an eyebrow.
I saw Knight's jaw tightening, and a flicker passed through his eyes. Without saying anything he got off of my body and grabbed my wrist he dragged me out of the room with him in rapid steps. As he dragged me outside, Hunter's loud voice broke through.
"Knight, get outside of your bloody shell and downstairs you fucking coward!"
The anger and power in his voice made it clear to me that Knight's beta and gamma were long gone from the earth but I knew, Knight won't be able to believe it until he sees the dead bodies of his companions.
When we reached downstairs, the sight of the beheaded bodies of Knight's beta and gamma was the first thing that came in front of my eyes, and then I saw Hunter. As his eyes fell on me, for a second all the rage and fury burning in them vanished in thin air but once they noticed the demon's hand tightly grasping my wrist, they were back with more intensity than prior.
Knight, on the other hand, looked speechless once he saw the dead bodies but the next second he was fuming in anger. The want of revenge glared through his grey eyes that changed their shade to the darkest shade of grey I had ever seen.
I tried to reach Hunter but with a harsh pull, he brought me back to where I was standing, right beside him.
"So, after all...Alpha Hunter Rodriguez managed to reach here anyways." Knight spoke, his voice low and suppressed, "Good thing, now I get to kill you by myself."
Hunter's eyes were only focused on where his hand was gripping onto my wrist; I could read him very well, in his mind everything that had gone was beyond brutal, he wanted to slaughter the knight then and there, but his hands were cuffed, he was unable to do that because of me. He did not want to risk anything.
"Let go of her." It was all Hunter uttered.
"I have not brought her all the way here to let her go," Knight spoke and hauled me closer to him, bringing me in front of him and pressing the knife against my throat, "This pretty mate of yours and this beautiful body of hers both are going to be mine."
"This fight is between me and you, don't drag my mate into this."
"This woman you have got is so much more exciting than everything and I want to explore every little thing about her, her curves and depths, her mind, heart, and her soul that I'll taint with my own sins." He traced his nose on my neck, astonishment covering his voice in a psychotic manner.
Hunter's fists clenched, the veins beside his head stood up, his breathing was rushed and his chest was covered in numerous injuries just like the rest of his body rapidly rose and fell. He was on the verge of losing it.
"It was between you and me, but now it's not. What's the fun in only acquiring a pack? I have done it hundreds of times. But this is so much more fun." He traced the edge of the knife on my collarbone, "Should I just cut this beautiful vein here? What do you say?"
I could not budge an inch. Knight got me trapped with the knife he pressed against my skin. My heartbeats got louder and louder.
"Stop playing these dirty games, and be a real man," Hunter shouted, "Don't use my mate as an advantage against me, fight with me if you have guts!"
Knight fell silent for a few minutes, his eyes glancing at me before he looked at Hunter, planning his next move in his mind without letting any of us even have a single idea about it.
"Okay, here," Suddenly he let go of my hand, "Have your mate by your side, cheering for you till your die in my hands."
I was bewildered because of his unanticipated move, my feet which were desperate to run toward Hunter the whole time, unexpectedly began to fall victim to hesitance as I made an effort to inch closer to him.
"What are you waiting for, Aria? Go to your mate, he's right in front of your eyes," Knight spoke, gesturing me to advance towards my mate.
His encouraging voice did not fit with the situation nor did it fit his nature. If anything it did was to make me skeptical and conscious about each step I'd have to take. His expression was indecipherable, it did not leave any space to scrutinize.
"Go," Knight pushed my lower back, sending my feet into a small quick motion towards Hunter who looked as skeptical as me.
I drew in a breath and took a few steps toward him, the hesitancy increasing with each phase. A strange feeling kept attacking my gut as if to give me a warning.
What was really going in Knight's mind? He surely was not one of those who played it fair; He was full of deceit and treachery.
I took a few more steps and out of the blue Knight grabbed my hand and with a swift jerk, he turned me to face him.
Before I could understand anything, a sharp pain onslaught into my stomach, and Hunter's horrified voice buzzed in my ears.
"Knight, No!"
A loud gasp left my mouth, and tears gathered in my eyes whilst they moved to look down at the knife Knight had stabbed into my stomach. From the corner of my eyes, I could see Hunter running toward me at a full speed but the distance did not come in our favor.
The demon twisted the knife whilst it already remained seated inside of me and he pulled it out before stabbing it in the same spot once again.
