Chapter 37

Janine and Porter walked to the dining room after preparing. Well, Porter doesn’t really mind but Janine’s really nervous. What if his friends won’t approve them? Is this going to be another obstacle?

Janine held onto Porter’s hand tightly as they approached his friends.

Porter looked at her, worried. “Don’t worry. My friends won’t eat you.” He whispered, trying to reassure her.

Janine nodded but still feels uneasy. She doesn’t know what to think about their relationship if even his friends won’t approve their relationship.

“Come on.” Porter led her to the dining table where the six men were waiting for them.

Janine looked at all of them and saw Serge smiling widely at her. “Uhm…” She wanted to greet but she doesn’t know how they’d want her to greet them.

“Take your seat, Janine.” Serge pointed at the chair beside Porter’s.

Janine nodded and sat where she was said to. Porter sat beside her and held her hand tight.

“Guys, this is Janine, my girlfriend.” Porter introduced simply before asking Janine what she wants to eat.

Janine bit her lip and just pointed at a random dish. She’s nervous because his friends didn’t even say anything to her when Porter introduced her to them.

Is it possible that they don’t like her?

What if they don’t like her for Porter? What if…

“Eat all you want to eat, Janine.” Janine was shocked when she heard one guy, she thinks is the youngest because he looked so young and fresh, spoke and smiled. “I’m Oliver, by the way.” He introduced and smiled wider.

Janine smiled. “I’m Janine.” She replied. “Nice to meet you, Oliver.” She beamed.

Oliver smiled. “I really wish I’d met you sooner, Janine. Porter just wouldn’t let any of us know about you.” He pouted as he rolled his eyes at Porter.

“I knew everything about her!” Serge grinned.

“Whatever, troll.” Oliver spat and stuck his fork on the steak.

Janine smiled and ate in silence. She was afraid that she was doing something wrong. She was afraid that she was doing something unacceptable for his friends.

“I’m George.” The man with a cheeky grin introduced. “Porter was right. You are indeed pretty.” He smiled.

“Stop it, fucker.” Porter scowled at George.

Janine smiled, a little relieved that his friends are slowly opening up to her.

“I’m Kellan.”

“He’s the grandfather. I’m Hunter.”

“What?! I am not a grandfather!”

“You are, Kellan. I am Donald.”

Janine smiled at all of them and accepted all their hands for a shake. She felt Porter’s grip on her waist, showing possessiveness and territorialism.

“Dude, chill! We were just introducing!” Serge laughed when he noticed Porter’s hand.

Porter growled at him. “Shut the hell up and stop touching my girl!” He warned his friends who just laughed at his remark.

“Chill, Porter! It’s not like Janine would like any of us.” Oliver beamed. “Although it’s a big question how she actually liked you.” He laughed with the rest of the boys.

Porter took a deep breath and Janine noticed that. “Relax, Porter. I’m trying to get into your world.” She whispered and Porter sighed.

“You don’t need to try hard, Janine. You’re my whole world. All you have to do is marry me and stay with me forever.” He stated making his friends hear him.

“My, my! No PDA please!” Hunter laughed earning him a glare from Porter.

Janine smiled and prevented a chuckle from escaping her lips. Somehow, she’s relieved that his friends accept their relationship.

“Aren’t you going to go to your parents, Porter?” Kellan asked curiously.

Porter stopped and pursed his lips into a thin line. “I won’t push them to support my relationship with Janine if they don’t like to, Kellan.” He replied as his grip on Janine tightened. “I can fund for us just fine.” His words were marked with finality.

Kellan raised his brow. “I’m not saying that you should ask your parents to support you, Porter.” He replied. “I just want you to know that as much as I support the two of you, I want you to be legal to your family.”

Janine and Porter didn’t speak. Kellan was right. Their relationship should be legal. Although it’s enough that they’re together, it’s better for their parents to know.

“We’re going to Busan next week.” L declared.

Janine looked at him in shock. “Why—”

“I want to formally take your hand from your father, Janine.” He cut her words.

Janine and the rest stared at Porter who is looking really serious. Everything he said is everything she’s ever wanted. But she couldn’t help herself from getting frightened by the situation. Nobody would accept them. Nobody would accept their relationship.

“Are you sure about this?” Kellan asked. It seems like he is the only one who’s interested in this. It’s probably because he’s the eldest and the most mature.

Porter nodded. “I wouldn’t let this come to this point if I wasn’t so sure.” He replied. “Janine is the one for me. If you won’t support us, I don’t really care. I just need her to be with me and I’m good forever.”

Janine gulped at Porter’s words. He’s willing to turn his back on everything and everyone who gets in their way. He’s starting a war. Although she knows that they’ll win this because there’s no way in hell that she’s going to give him up, her anxiety is also eating her up.

She wouldn’t want L to get rejected by his own family and friends because of her. She wouldn’t want Porter to be lonely with her. What if one day, she gets to leave? No one would be there for him. But then again, why would she leave him? He’s her life. He’s her world.

Kellan didn’t speak after.

Serge smiled weakly. “Don’t worry, dude. We support you.” He assured.

Porter nodded but didn’t really smile. He doesn’t really care about anything anymore. He just needs Janine and he’s good.

The lunch was over and everyone was down to their own worlds again.

Janine looked at Porter who’s focused on his laptop right now. He’s doing some proposals for their company.

“I want you to resign, Janine.” Porter said out of the blue.

Janine raised his brow. “Why? I needed that job.” She replied, insisting.

“You don’t need it now that you’re mine.” He replied while his eyes are still on his laptop.

“What?” Janine asked. “Now that we’re together, I can’t work and earn my own money anymore?” She pouted.

Porter looked at her. “You don’t need to work and earn your own money because what’s mine is yours, too, Janine. I need you to just stay home and be my wife.” He said in a serious tone.

Janine started to feel her heart race fast. Why must he always be this way? Why does he say the right things to make her tremble this way?

“Baby, you don’t need to try hard in this life. I will do everything. All you have to do is love me. Forever.” Porter spoke before looking into his laptop again.

Janine watched him and noted everything that he said. Sure, she didn’t want to resign because it is also her passion. Her workplace has also become her home. But Porter is also her home. He’s the most important person in her life right now and she’s willing to give up everything for him just like how he’s willing to give up everything for her.

He used to be her other man. But right now, he’s her man. No other.

Porter looked at her as her eyes gazed at him. “What are you thinking?” He asked curiously as he put the laptop on the bedside table and walked over to sit beside her.

He wrapped his arm around her and made her face him.

Janine shrugged. “Nothing.” She replied. “Just some things.”

Porter narrowed his eyes on her. “How could say nothing then tell me just some things? You’re making me crazy, Janine/.” He spoke. “Come on. Tell me.” He probed.

Janine smiled. “I’m just thinking about how much I love you. And of the things and people I am willing to give up for you and me.” She replied.

Porter’s jaw dropped with her words. It took him a few moments before he could finally speak again. “You don’t need to give up anything or anyone for me, Baby.” He spoke. “Or maybe just your job.” He grinned. “But people? You can keep them in your life, Janine. I’d be fine if they hurt me. All I need to be is by your side. All I need is you and everything’s going to be worth it.”

Janine smiled at his words. “How can you be so selfless and selfish at the same time?” She asked in awe.

Porter smiled. “Anything for you, Mrs. Kim.” He kissed her forehead.

A loud knock came on their door. “Porter! Your parents are here!” Serge’s voice hung in the air as Porter gripped on Janine tightly.
