Chapter 394 Threat
After getting doused with cat urine, Kenna hired a private investigator to look into the matter. A few days later, she received the results.
She stormed into Digital Innovations, ignoring the receptionist and the secretary, and barged straight into Henry's office, slamming the investigation report onto his desk.
"Look at this. Your mom's handiwork. I was ready to let it go because of you, but she had to come and mess with me. You've seen the news online, right? It's caused a lot of damage to me and the Jackson Group!"
"I'll make sure you get a satisfactory resolution." Henry promised, his eyes fixed on the report.
Kenna leaned over his desk, getting in his face.
Henry looked up, startled by her sudden closeness, and momentarily forgot to breathe.
"When will I get this resolution? What kind of resolution? I'm not a naive girl who'll just wait around. Give me a date, or I'll handle it myself."
Kenna sneered, her expression determined and firm.Henry knew she meant every word. He sighed, "Three days, Kenna. Give me three days, and I'll make sure you're satisfied."
"Fine, three days. But if your solution doesn't satisfy me, I'll take matters into my own hands. And then, we'll settle all our scores."
With that, Kenna turned and walked out.
"Kenna," Henry called after her.
"You better have a good reason for stopping me," Kenna said, turning around and shaking her fist.
Henry knew that if he said anything to upset her, she wouldn't hesitate to hit him. As much as he wanted to provoke her, just to see if he still had an effect on her emotions, he couldn't afford to do that at the office.
He shook his head. "It's nothing."
Kenna ignored him and left without looking back.
Henry slumped in his chair. He had wanted to ask her out to dinner, but seeing the disdain on her face, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
He had thought that their only obstacle was their sibling-like relationship and that once he shed the "Jackson" name, they could be together.
Now he realized that his very existence was the problem.
Grabbing the investigation report Kenna had brought, he stormed out of his office.
"I warned you not to mess with her. Why didn't you listen?" He demanded angrily, throwing the private investigator's report in front of Helen and Jessica.
Helen was startled by her son's tone. She picked up the report and, feeling guilty, said, "That slut Kenna, her behavior is disgraceful. What does it have to do with me? Henry, you're just bewitched by her..."
"I'm not an idiot!" Henry interrupted with a cold laugh. "How could you be so stupid? She hasn't gotten over Preston's death. You should be grateful she hasn't come after you. Why would you provoke her?"
"I did it for you," Helen retorted, her anger rising. "You know she hates me, and you still like her. Do you think I'd just let her be?"
"Stay out of my business," Henry said coldly.
Helen started hitting Henry, crying, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have married Albert. I've sacrificed everything for you and your sister, and now you tell me to stay out of it? You want to marry a woman who hates me? Are you trying to drive me to my grave? If my death would make you happy, then let me die!"
"Henry, are you really going to hurt Mom for Kenna?" Jessica rushed over, hugging Helen and scolding Henry.
Henry frowned.
Helen watched Henry from the corner of her eye, continuing to cry, "Jessica, don't blame your brother. It's my fate. I've never met a good man in my life. Your father was no good, Albert was no good, and now even my own son resents me. I shouldn't be alive. Jessica, don't stop me, let me die."
"Enough. I don't resent you. Don't mess with her again, or I won't be able to protect you. I've bought you tickets. Tomorrow, you'll leave Silvercrest City and stay in Carbonia for a while." Henry said, his tone softening.
Helen stopped crying immediately.
Jessica protested, "I don't want to go abroad. Mom, it'll be hard for me."
Helen added, "I'm too old to live abroad for long. I won't bother her anymore. Don't make us leave."
"I'm not negotiating," Henry said, suppressing his impatience. "If you don't go, she'll come after you herself. You know what Kenna is capable of. I won't be able to protect you."
The two women clung to each other, fear evident on their faces.
Henry looked at them, both angry and helpless. If they weren't his blood relatives, he wouldn't even bother with them.
But one was his mother, and the other his sister.
He sighed and turned to leave.
After a few steps, he turned back and instructed the bodyguards, "Stay here and watch my mother and Jessica. Make sure they leave tomorrow morning."
"Yes, sir." The bodyguards nodded and went back inside.
"Henry, you can't do this," Jessica shouted after him.
But Henry ignored her, leaving without looking back.
"Mom, what do we do? I don't want to go abroad," Jessica said, stomping her foot.
Even if she had to go abroad, she wanted to go to Marigoldia, where Joshua was. Maybe she could run into him there.
"I don't want to go either, but your brother has bodyguards watching us. We can't run." Helen replied angrily.
"Who says we can't run?" Jessica whispered in Helen's ear. "We can escape at the airport. The bodyguards can't follow us into the women's restroom. With the crowd, they won't be able to keep track of us."
"But if we run, your brother might cut off our credit cards. Without money, where can we go?" Helen pointed out.
Jessica deflated. Without money, how could she survive?
She cursed Kenna, "That slut Kenna. If it weren't for her seducing my brother, he wouldn't be so heartless to us."
Helen said bitterly, "I thought this would make your brother hate her, but it only made him send us away. We need to find a way to make him despise her."
