Chapter 472 Daisy

Chapter 472 Daisy

Terry opened the door and let Daisy in.

As soon as she saw Isabella, Daisy's eyes welled up. "Miss, please, can I keep taking care of Ms. Ruth? I've been with her for years, and I really don't want to leave her..."

Terry cut in, his face blank. "From what I hear, caregivers at the old place had to look after a bunch of patients. Haven't you taken care of lots of folks before? If you come here for Ms. Ruth, are you just gonna ditch the others? Or is there something else going on? Why are you so hung up on Ms. Ruth?"

Daisy stood there, head down, nervously picking at her fingers. She glanced up at Terry now and then but couldn't find the words to explain.

Isabella looked at her kindly and tried to comfort her. "You heard him. Now that Ms. Ruth is here, you can't follow. Thank you for taking such good care of her all these years. I'll make sure you get a generous thank-you payment."

"No, Miss, I don't want money," Daisy said quickly, her eyes red. "I just want to take care of Ms. Ruth. It's not about the money. Please, let me stay and look after her. I can keep my old salary or even work for free. I just want to be with her."

"Don't cry, don't cry. Let's talk this through," Isabella said, wiping Daisy's tears.

She looked at Michael with a complicated expression.

Michael and Terry exchanged a glance. They were both sharp and had suspected something from the moment Daisy arrived. Terry had deliberately provoked her to see if she would reveal anything.

Sure enough, Daisy, feeling cornered, had no choice but to speak up.

"If you want to take care of her that badly, it's not impossible. But you need to give us a convincing reason. If you have any hidden motives, you won't be allowed to stay in the facility," Terry said sternly.

Daisy, young and naive, thought they were going to kick her out. She grabbed Isabella's hand desperately and pleaded, "Miss, please speak up for me. Don't let them kick me out. I really want to stay with Ms. Ruth. I came here to work just for her. If I'm kicked out, I'll never see her again."

Among the three, Isabella seemed the most gentle. Daisy didn't dare to plead with the intimidating Michael and Terry, so she turned to Isabella, hoping she would help her stay.

Isabella sensed something was off. Daisy's words confirmed her suspicions. She asked, "You said you came here to work for Ms. Ruth. Did you know her before you started working here?"

"Yes, she's my godmother," Daisy choked out, finally revealing the truth.

Isabella quickly took her hand and asked, "How did you know each other? Do you know about her past? What happened to her?"

"Miss, why do you want to know these things? What's your relationship with my godmother?" Daisy countered.

Isabella was about to explain when Michael interrupted, "Isabella, my leg hurts. Let's talk about this later."

"What's wrong with your leg?" Isabella let go of Daisy and walked over to him, concerned.

"Let them leave first. I'll show you," Michael said.

"Alright, Daisy, you can go for now. We'll talk about this later."

Daisy wanted to say something, but obediently left.

Terry also left, heading to the director's office to pull up Daisy's file and arrange for someone to investigate her background.

Daisy was just an ordinary person, so her information was easy to find. Soon, Terry had the relevant details and called Isabella and Michael over.

Daisy's file showed she was from Silvermist City, had no parents, and was raised by her grandmother. She had been sponsored to study nursing but only had an associate's degree.

"I thought I said we needed to hire caregivers with a bachelor's degree. How did someone with an associate degree get hired?" Terry muttered, flipping through the file.

"Daisy's guardian is Maeve Harrington. The same Maeve Harrington who has been sending money to Isabella?" Michael exclaimed, looking at another document.

At that moment, Terry received a call from the hospital's identification center, confirming that Natalia and Isabella were indeed mother and daughter.

Isabella had suspected this outcome, but hearing it confirmed still brought tears to her eyes.

Michael instructed, "Bring Daisy here immediately. Isabella, you can ask her whatever you want to know."

Daisy had been sent back to the old facility to continue working. When Terry's people brought her over, her eyes were red and swollen from crying.

Terry quickly put on a friendly face and said, "I apologize for my earlier attitude. Don't be afraid. Please tell us about your relationship with Ms. Ruth."

Daisy was still wary of Terry. She walked over to Isabella and asked, "Miss, what do you want to know?"

Despite Terry's change in demeanor, she still felt safest with Isabella.

"Daisy, you said Ms. Ruth is your godmother. How did you meet? What happened to her?" Isabella asked, holding her hand with a serious expression.

Daisy's eyes reddened again, and she struggled to hold back her tears. "My godmother was hurt by bad people."

"What do you mean? Daisy, explain clearly," Isabella urged.

Daisy wiped her tears and looked at Isabella. "Miss, if I tell you everything, will you protect me?"

Isabella, confused, looked at Michael.

Michael walked over, holding Isabella's hand, and promised Daisy, "Yes. No matter who is involved, if you tell us the truth, I will ensure your safety. If you want to leave the country, we'll arrange it. If you want to stay, we'll give you a new identity."

Daisy looked at Isabella, who nodded solemnly.

Taking a deep breath, Daisy began, "I've lived with my grandmother for as long as I can remember. My grandmother was in poor health, and my godmother often visited us, helping to take care of her and me. She liked me a lot and told me many things about the world, saying that if I studied hard, I could have a good life. But my godmother's health kept deteriorating. Every time I saw her, she was thinner. She had many sorrows, even though she didn't talk about them. When I was fifteen, she left us a lot of money and never came back. Later, my grandmother's biological daughter came and wanted to take me away. My grandmother tried to stop her, but she pushed her down... and then she took me away. I managed to escape and found out by chance that my godmother was sent here. So I came here to work, hoping to see her. I've been taking care of her for the past three years. I have no other wish but to look after her until the end. My godmother has had a tragic life. I'm her only family. Please, let me stay and take care of her."

Isabella felt a deep sympathy for Daisy, and more questions arose in her mind.
