CHAPTER 56

Third Person's POV:

The door opened, and Domenico walked into Massimo's office with Marco trailing behind him. Domenico dragged a chair over and sat in front of Massimo, who looked at him but didn't say anything,

It was hard for Domenico to see his old ally, one he respected so much, in such grief. His men, along with the Black Scorpions, were combing through all of New York City. They knew that Chicago and Kaylee hadn't left on a plane because if they had, there would have been records—but there were none.

Domenico sighed and asked what he wanted to ask. "Look, this isn't any other mafia or gang's doing. There is someone that only wanted to hurt Kaylee—" he started, but Massimo sneered at him.

"It's Mrs. Feorenzo to you," he said with so much venom. He knew that Kaylee found Domenico handsome, so he wasn't about to let the man call her by her name. He would make sure that every man knew who Kaylee belonged to.

"Whatever. First of all, I am not interested in your girl. Second of all, listen to me!" Domenico frowned at Massimo's childish behavior. Here they were trying to find Kaylee, and this dumbass was being possessive. "Whoever it is, they are after Mrs. Feorenzo. Are you aware of anything related to her personal life—her past, maybe? Who would try to hurt her?"

Massimo frowned as he tried to think of who it could be. "Her relationship with her brother and mother is not good. Maybe they are after her? On the other hand, her ex-husband was an abusive psychopath…but he is in police custody and rehab," Massimo said. He couldn't think properly—his mind had been numb since Kaylee disappeared because the fear of losing her was too much.

"Are you sure that ex of hers is still in police custody?" Marco asked this time, frowning. They were all trying to put two and two together.

"Let's check," Domenico said after he saw the unsure expression on Massimo's face.

They called their men and tried to find out the truth. After just three hours, it was confirmed that Kaylee's ex-husband had escaped rehab, and the police were after him.

But they couldn't find him.

Massimo stood up straight after hearing this. "We looked everywhere except for her ex-husband's mansion. Be ready. We are going to raid it tonight."

•••

Kaylee was awake. Her stomach was rumbling. It had been three days since she had eaten something properly. Every once and a while, the man who had been there when she first woke up would come, give her a piece of bread with water, feed her, and then leave.

The door opened, but the light was too bright for Kaylee to see who it was. A shadow walked inside. She looked up, her eyes squinting because of light. "Hello, wife," the shadow said, and she froze, her body going stiff. She remembered this voice. It used to yell at her,

Kaylee's breathing quickened as she remembered the time she almost died.

Erthan came into view. There was a sinister smile on his face, and Kaylee felt nauseous when she saw him. This couldn't be happening. It couldn't. She had made sure that he would be locked up in rehab forever.

The man in front of her had snatched her dignity, hurt her like nobody ever had. He could have been one to take her pain away, to give her new life. He could have been a good husband, a lover—but he hadn't been. He had always had the choice, always. But taking the good route just wasn't his thing.

"Surprised?" Erthan asked, a smirk on his disgusting face.

"Not at all," Kaylee said calmly, her teeth clenched. She didn't want to let him know that she was afraid—not three years ago, and not now.

"Aww…I missed you," he said, bending down to her level and bringing his face closer to her. "Did you miss me?" he whispered, hoping she would say yes.

Kaylee looked at him like he had lost his mind, but then she remembered that Erthan was a psycho. This thought made her laugh in his face. "And here I thought you had gone mad," she taunted. Erthan scrunched his eyebrows, not liking her answer. Kaylee moved a little towards him and looked into his eyes like she owned the whole world. "But then I remembered that you were always like this. You were even declared a psycho," she said and laughed loudly again.

Erthan's face was red with anger by now. He didn't even try to control his anger and just slapped her face hard. Her head snapped to the other side, and he slapped her again. His hands would surely leave a mark. Kaylee could taste metal in her mouth—blood.

Erthan roughly grabbed her head and made her look at him. She didn't show any kind of hurt or pain. Instead, she smiled again tauntingly. "Aww, did I hurt the psycho?" she asked, the smirk never leaving her face.

"YOU." He pointed his finger at her face while his other hand grabbed her hair in fist. "You are going to regret this," he said, his nose flaring in anger and his eyes flashing red.

"How?" Kaylee was making sure to rile him up.

The anger vanished in seconds when she asked this question, his sinister smile coming back onto his face. "Remember when I told you that you are not going to bear a bastard child? Remember when I told you that I would make sure the child wouldn't survive?" he asked. Kaylee tried to make her facial expressions as cold as possible, but she wasn't getting his point. "Well, that time, you weren't pregnant. But this time, I will make sure this child won't survive," he continued in a very low voice.

The color drained from Kaylee's face as she came to realize what he meant. "But this time, there also isn't any child." She tried to act brave because she herself wasn't sure if there was one or not.

The man in front of her pushed her back, letting go of her hair and standing up. Laughing, Erthan shook his head. "Oh, I am sure there is one." He pointed at her stomach and made his way towards the table, picking up a butcher knife from it.

Kaylee paled, fearing for her unborn child's life. She wasn't sure if she was pregnant, though she had been experiencing potential symptoms for a while. She had thought she was just imagining things, but…what if Erthan was right?

He twirled the knife in his hand, cocking his head to the side as his smirk grew wider. “Remember this?"
