Chapter 27: Resentments

Chapter 27: Resentments
Anna tried to pull back but his arms were too strong around her. The pressure exerted on her waist intensified whenever she struggled to break free. She felt the tension in his stare which lingered somewhere between her lips and collarbone.
As her eyes traveled down to his jawline, her breath came to a sudden halt when Jalan roughly grabbed her by the neck and sealed her into a passionate and tempting kiss.
The kiss lasted for more than two minute before Anna broke away from him, panting and trying hard to catch her racing heart.
“What was that? Are you insane?” She scolded loudly after a brief period of silence. She was supposed to be truly mad at him but why is she only pretending to be angered? Why did that felt so good? Was she already longing for that kiss?
“You can think however you want to, Anna. The truth is, I’m still in love with you and I’m not giving up” Jalan admitted clearly as he adjusted his collar and stepped closer to her again as though his plans were to grab her once more.
Anna quickly took several steps away from him. “Don’t come near me!” She warned intimidatingly “You are a cheat, Jalan. I’m never going to get back with a cheater like you. That will be ridiculous”
“Is it still because of that photo?”
“So what? Was that photoshopped or what?”
“Nate showed that to you only to create this mess in our relationship. I swear I never cheated on you except for that one night stand which I already confessed to you about it. It happened when I was drunk, and besides, you also kissed that pizza dude in Havana”
“I didn’t kissed Robin. He kissed me first, just like you did now. How is that my fault? Look... Just stay away from me, Jalan. I have fallen out of love for you and I’m not interested in hearing your silly excuses. I clearly saw you holding your side chick. Or maybe she’s your real woman while I was the foolish side chick. How can you defend yourself in this?”
Jalan bite hard on his jaw and muttered something under his breath. He stared at Anna incredulously although she seemed to be so pissed off to even hold his gaze. She turned her face away. And then there was some few seconds of a blackout silence.
Jalan heaved a long sigh and shook his head, thinking of how to approach the matter. He didn’t want to bring up the topic of Anne, his ex-girlfriend who was in that photo. He wasn’t ready to share his deepest secrets with Anna since she doesn’t even trust him now. Nate had nailed him right there using his worst weakness.
“You said you’ve fallen out of love. So what do I do to make you love me again?” He shot an eyebrow up in anticipation to hear what she’ll say.
“You’re kidding yourself asshole. I ain’t ever going to stand as somebody’s side chick” Anna gave him the worst hateful glare before she took a swift turn and cat walked her heels to the door. “And don’t call me out again. I don’t wish to see your face for like forever.” She dumped the rest on him and finally left.
Standing and staring at the chandelier above the ceiling in the lounge, Jalan instantly felt a tension headache building in his skull. He’d gone through a lot of stress lately, and because there was hardly enough sleep for him, his body was beginning to lose its natural vitality. No matter what he does to impress Anna, it seemed like she does not wish to put the past behind. And there was no way he’s ever going to tell her his pathetic story with Anne.
Time Skipped
The night was cold and lonely. It was unusual, and so many thoughts were flooding in and out of her mind as she stared at her phone, checking to see if there will soon come a new drunk text message rolling into her inbox. It was past 10pm but the usual message she’d receive before going to bed at this time, did not roll in.
Anna find her thoughts somehow going back and forth between Jalan Marco and this new mystery man who always send her drunk text messages mistaking her number for some woman. She knew it’d be hard for her to easily move on and forget Marco when he keeps on showing his face to her all the time, but she needed to try her best to forget him.
As though her memory had been struck with a sudden recollection, she sprang out of bed and reached for her other phone which she’d kept on the TV stand. Turned out she’d been holding the wrong phone with the old line, and the mystery message had probably been in her inbox for a while now via this new line. She suddenly wondered why she was so full of eagerness to read those text messages which weren’t even meant for her. Maybe because she’d gotten use to reading them, and the messages were packed with deep and sincere feelings that amazes her every time.
Anna finished scrolling through her inbox but none of the messages were from him. She sighed disappointedly and plopped back into her bed.
Actually, she didn’t want this mystery man to stop sending those messages. It was as thought her love life had been cursed ever since she had left Marco, her heart turned solid, unwavering and unchanging, and not willing to welcome any new feeling because the scar from her past was yet to heal; the scar from Marco’s betrayal. But somehow, she was beginning to become interested in this new feeling in her heart whenever she read this person’s drunk text messages. He’d typed the messages with tons of spelling errors which was why she’d considered them to be drunk messages.
Even though her heart yearned to know whoever this drunk stranger was, she remained adamant to even reply to his text to let him know that it was a wrong number.
