Chapter 25: What Happened
Jalan’s eyes started shooting daggers at Anna who was suddenly acting like a drama queen. He heard her statement when he followed her downstairs but couldn’t bring himself to say a thing in either retaliation or self defense. The words were stuck in his throat, bitter and angry. He had sacrificed his friendship with Nate because it was the right time to make Nate pay for his crimes. He wanted to side with Anna but look where it got him.
Rapists and murderers?
Truthfully, the other version of her was better. She was kind and thoughtful before she regained her memory... but now it seems like she’s back to being that old bitch.
“Take her out, Rick” The tall, olive skin officer ordered in a haste, addressing his fellow while keeping his eyes on Nate. “Mr Thunderberg, this conversation ends here. We’re taking you both to the station. You have the right to remain silent and contact your lawyer”
Nate casted a glare on the police man first, then shifted his eyes to Anna, furious and angry at what she had caused him, but Anna ignored him and continued faking her sob “That man... he’s... he’s an accomplice... He tricked me into a forced marriage” She said with her finger pointing towards Jalan Marco who was still shooting daggers at her, the fury in his eyes almost doubling with the passing of every second.
“We’ll handle this Ma’am. Let’s get you to safety first” The second tall officer whom was addressed as Rick, carefully led Anna out the door, leaving behind his superior and the two men inside.
“You fucking bastard, you just fucked your self and you’re gonna regret this for the rest of your life” Nate angrily mocked at Jalan, raking his hands in his hair and pacing to and fro.
“We’ll see about that” Jalan muttered a reply without looking at Nate. He was more focused on staring at the door from where Anna had exited.
When she stepped out of the Vila and heard the loud sirens almost deafening her ears, a small feeling of anxiety crept into her soul as she captured around seven to eight police cars with officers strategically stationed with guns. The case turned out to be unexpectedly huge and serious, not what she’d imagined. She clung onto the policeman holding his arm as he guided her to one of the police vehicle.
When she entered the car, her gaze was focused somewhere out the window, feeling like her brain was being loaded with newer memories of the Vila. Does that mean she hasn’t fully remembered her past? Was there something she’d missed?
The ride to the station began while Anna was still debating with herself. The thoughts bothered her. Does Jalan deserve to be pardoned? Does he truly care? Why did he involved the police? Why did he betrayed Nate? But suddenly, the picture flashed into her mind again _ Jalan smiling happily and holding another woman; that irritated her feelings. She could have forgiven his past and accept him now that he’s siding with her but no, she wanted him to taste the same bitterness he’d put her through.
As soon as they arrived to the station, the investigation case file was reopened and the police ensured that the victim will be protected against harm for as long as necessary.
It was dark when Anna’s former Agency manager finally arrived to pick her. Accompanied by two policemen, she followed him to his car while the two officers who were going to be responsible for her safety, hopped into their vehicle and followed. On the way home, the manager briefed her about a lot of past happenings and how things unfolded when she suddenly went missing and later reported to be dead. Turned out the news of her death shook the whole modeling industry and made quite a lot of headline.
Anna’s mother had taken over the mansion, but everything else was untouched including her fortune which her Father has managed to still keep it under her name.
“What’s wrong?” The Agency manager asked with a quick side glance at Anna, while at the same time trying to keep his eyes on the road to focus.
“Nothing” She whispered and continued massaging her temples. Her headache was becoming worse, and she was beginning to feel dizzy.
“Would you like to drop at the hospital first? I think you need to”
“No... Maybe later. Just drive faster”
When they finally arrived and parked over, Anna wobbled out the door and hurried to her Mansion’s front door. Nothing much changed in the front view of her house except for the new grown flowers. Before she could ring on the door bell, an older woman quickly swung the door open as though she’d been waiting for Anna.
The woman stood speechless with tears spilling down from her eyes. For a minute, both couldn’t make any movement until Anna mustered the courage and held the weeping woman. They’ve always been at the opposite ends with her mother but today, she felt the strong emotion of Love and how much she’d been missed by her Mother.
“I thought I had lost you forever” The woman kept on weeping.
“No you haven’t Mom. Let’s just go in first so we can properly talk” Anna wiped a teardrop away from her Mother’s face as they both proceeded and entered into the sitting room. The furniture were still the same, but a little bit worn out, except for the fish aquarium made of plain glass.
There was a lot of talks between the two and the reunion seemed to have instantly repaired the old standing grudges and misunderstandings between Anna and her Mother. Anna’s father was based overseas in Seoul where he mostly spent his time taking care of the main branch of his company, but when he finally spoke on phone with his daughter, he was so happy that he promised to come over to see both his wife and daughter as soon as possible. He was a very busy businessman running multiple businesses in so many parts of the world.
