CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN
CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN
It was when I got to the mansion that I fully understood the extent of the situation.
Octavio and Kora were in the house and the moment I showed up, the hoisted me in, leaving the Fallen I'd come with.
“Why did you bring them here?!” Kora yelled at me, “You've forgotten all they did to you? Do you remember now my brother nearly died because of their actions?”
I turned to look at her, trying to figure out where this intense feeling was coming from.
“That was over a year ago, Kora, they've realized they need me more than I need them. Besides, it was Alaric that dropped me with them and they're sworn to a written oath,” I informed her, plumping down on a couch.
“The last time I saw Alaric, he was weak and exhausted, he must have done that because he didn't have any other choice!”
“Which makes no sense because you were there, yet you ran away after getting them down. I wonder why,” I snapped back at her, getting angrier with her harsh tone towards me.
I made a mistake, yes, but I'm doing everything I can to repair that, I shouldn't be getting beat down with harsh words every single minute.
“Oh you want me to also get roped into your nonsense? He's in love with you, I'm not and I'll help him as much as I can but I'm not going to create enmity with my father because Alaric can't see that you're bad for him. All you bring with you is trouble!” She shouted and disappeared.
My mouth was agape and my feelings were murky.
“She doesn't mean any of that,” I heard Octavio’s weak voice next to me.
He was splayed flat on another couch overlooking the dining room and he looked worse for wear.
I got up, cleaned the tears in my eyes and walked towards him.
I took his hand in mine and wrapped it in between my two hands so he could take in energy as fast as possible.
"Oh shit!” He exclaimed all of a sudden, pulling away his hand and jumping up. “How.. how did you do that? Is this right? Are we cheating on Alaric?”
I scoffed.
“Hopefully not, I'd just done that with more than four thousand people yesterday and to clear your confusion, I don't need sex anymore to pour into anyone. Although I did like that medium of transmission with Alaric and his demon. It's great that now, we can always share that just between us and you all get the hand,” I replied with a smile before returning to sit down.
“You're literally a power bank!”
“Seems to be that way. Now that you're fine, can you help me situate those Fallen in guest rooms close to the security building? I know they're here for my protection but I don't fully trust them. The other demons will join the security team,” I instructed him and he teleported away from the room, leaving me alone to my thoughts.
I looked at the time, it seemed their own private jet was powered spiritually as we'd gotten here in two hours, a journey that would have taken longer.
Octavio came back after a while, I'd nearly dozed off.
I might have given him more strength than I intended to.
“He's here,” he declared the second he appeared out of thin air.
“Hm?” I jolted, looking around for who was here.
“He gave Alaric six hours to get you to him or face him in a war and as you can see, it's been way past six hours so the devil has come to collect,” Kora spitefully informed me while standing with her hands folded across her chest.
“So if I go with him, he'll leave Alaric alone?” I said after thinking about it for a few seconds.
Kora was right, I was a big bag of trouble and I kept dragging him into my mess all the time.
“With my new powers, I'm sure I can stay in hell without getting hurt,” I reasoned with their horrified looks.
“You think he's taking you to hell to hand you on his trophy shelf?” Octavio added, “he's going to make you his queen, just like Alaric's mother and when you have a child for him, he'll decide you aren't worth living anymore and either kill you or wipe people's mind of the memories of you. You'll exist but never truly be remembered by anyone. Is that what you want?”
Now I was the horrified one.
“I thought he just wanted to make sure I didn't use my powers against him,” I muttered weakly, tired and frustrated from everything.
“As usual, you're right,” the devil spoke from nowhere before actually appearing right next to me on the couch.
“Ah!” I screamed, scrambling away from there.
He didn't come in his Lucifer form, he'd brought out his true evil form and it wasn't a good sight.
His curled horns, the blood painted around his neck and the black eyes.
I was horrified.
His subjects around me immediately went on their knees, bowing down and leaving me stupefied.
He smirked at that, probably happy with the amount of influence he has on them before turning his full angry stare on me, making me shift from one foot to the other, terrified.
“Young girl, you continually defy me and I really want to know what gives you the impetus to do that,” he bellowed, his voice cracking the fire place violently.
I didn't answer, and he stood up so quickly I took steps back in fear.
“You are not only trying to take away my son but you want her too? And you want to convince me you are some little, naive human who mistakenly got touched by the divine? You think powers come to mortals out of the blue?”
“I didn't ask for any of this,” I whispered, knowing that yes, I will take whatever reality Alaric existed in but it didn't diminish the fact that I'd gone through so much hell before he saved me.
“You're still playing the game of ignorance,” he scoffed and turned around, walked a few paces back and turned around to come impossibly close to me. “Tell me who sent you to destroy my plans and I'll let you live,” he promised.
“You can't kill me,” I replied, not even knowing where I'd gotten the mental strength to talk back to the devil.
He cackled, full on, belly bubbling, bent over type of laugh.
If nothing he'd done got to me, this did.
Alaric wouldn't be back anytime soon, three weeks the least and yet here I was antagonizing his father. I no longer had just my life to fight for, I was putting Alaric in trouble with every cut inflicted on my body which was still as human as possible, it just won't die easily.
He grabbed my upper arm, making me squirm in fear, and he stared down into me.
“I'm going to enjoying the next three weeks using your body to hurt him so much that he'll regret betraying me,” he threatened, his eyes full of vile and hate, yet a cruel smile was plastered on his face.
And then he disappeared, leaving me in pain, specifically on the spot he'd just grabbed.
