Chapter 213: CHAPTER TQO HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN
I jolted awake, the nightmare I'd just had running away from the front of my mind despite all my attempts to catch and remember it.
All I knew was that something was wrong with Alaric and staying here, playing saviour to these people might end with regret.
I'd rested well enough that I didn't feel like falling down after every step I took so I got up from the bed and went to freshen up.
I must have been filled with dirt from the past three days or more because that bath reset my system entirely; or maybe it had some healing properties in it, I remembered the healing water they had me in the last time.
Having this new power took away the pain I usually had when I'm far from Alaric but somehow, I still felt that absence of his proximity with me and although I wasn't physically in pain, my mood was ruined.
I got dressed in leather jacket and jeans and stepped out of the pent house suite I was placed in with a luxurious balcony, well, everything about the house was luxurious so there was that.
I found a few teenage boys running around the hallway and I called for them.
“Help me get Kiara, sorry, your priestess. Oll be downstairs,” I instructed them and I watched them zap down the staircase while I headed to the elevator.
I'd been calling his phone repeatedly but he wasn't picking which made me more worried with every minute.
I'd be so pissed if I found out Kiara lied to me about his safety so she could get me to stay back and help the Fallen community.
Alaric came before all of them and I have to make sure he's fine.
I missed him so badly it made me feel fucked up in my mind.
I was waiting by the foyer when she joined me, looking better than she did last night.
She wore a regal white dress with patterns beaded from the neck down to her navel and I nearly smiled at how put together she was until I remembered who she was to me.
“I need to get a car that'll take me to the airport so I can get back to my husband,” I told her, looking at the time on my phone.
2PM.
I slept for a while and considering how yesterday went, that made total sense, I was tired beyond reasonable doubt.
“Oh,” she frowned, “but what are you going to do there? If he's fighting with his father, you're just going to be a bait for him to use against your man. I would advise staying back to wait for him.”
I shook my head, maybe she didn't realise I wasn't so terrified anymore.
“Don't worry about me, I've got this. The devil can't touch me, that's for sure. I just need transport.”
“It's alright, if you insist but can we go with you? I've been fighting for a good part of this year and I'm in top shape, I think I can help,” she begged with her eyes.
I didn't understand her sudden switch, it was like Melanie was back and was trying to be there for me and all of that.
“If you insist,” I replied and headed towards the door.
“Yes but you'll have to wait a minute or two, the cars have been abandoned for a while now, Juma needs to ensure they're good to be used for long distance travel. Meanwhile, you haven't eaten since you got here and your husband has me under signed oat to take care of you, I'd rather die than owe him,” she said, a memory flickering at the edge of her eyes.
I went with her to the dining room and everyone there were on their best behaviour, trying to get in my good graces.
“What would you like to eat? I'll go get it for you,” someone started but was interrupted by the cook.
“Leave her alone Jamaica, I'm going to take her order,” she snapped at him.
She was so ethereal in beauty yet was busy in the kitchen, whipping up things.
I let them argue for a few seconds on who was going to bring what before responding.
“I'll just have some waffles and fruit juice so maybe you both can do it?” I suggested with a smile, making them both jump into action, ignoring their back and forth.
I shook my head in ire and went to an empty table.
Quite soon enough, the table was filled with people dropping their tables and trying to talk to me.
“Get out!” I heard Kiara's scolding voice shot towards them and they all scampered away immediately. “If you all don't behave yourselves, she'll leave us and never come back. There's been demons circling this building for the past two hours, you want to start fighting them?”
They all shook their head but that got me thinking.
“Do you know what type of demons they are?” I asked Kiara.
She directed her attention towards me, her face softening.
“I don't really know, they looked like Greed's soldiers but they're not attacking or trying to breach our defence so I'm suspecting they're smart enough to be Lust’s or Gluttons.”
“I'll need to speak to one of them then. I'm supposedly their queen and they might be here on Alaric's orders,” I told her and something dawned on her, some sort of realization as she looked downwards on the table at her clean nails.
“Sometimes it's so easy to forget you're the Queen to the den that destroyed half of our forces,” she muttered with a hint of anger in her tone.
“For me, it's not something I can forget that I needed demons who don't even know or need me to rescue me from you all that depends on my existence to survive. Do you understand that because of Alaric, you'll never need to implant any egg again? If you do, they're allowed to live their normal lives instead of getting used for your satisfaction. The idea of you picking offense that I was saved from your cruelty is repulsive. Don't do that again,” I commanded, my voice echoing around the entire room.
The quietness and guilt spread around and very quickly, my food was in front of me, in large quantity might I add and I wolfed it down quickly, realising how hungry I really was.
“Shall we leave?” I asked Kiara who was slowly picking at her food like it was the most uninteresting thing ever.
“Oh yea, sure,” she quickly stood up and cleaned her mouth, walking before me into the elevator.
I got out to see hefty looking Fallen soldiers ready to go with us.
I noticed the demons she was talking about and headed towards them but before I could get to the barrier, Kiara rushed towards me.
“Can we interview them first? I'm not comfortable having you walk into danger, defenseless,” she said to me but I smiled.
“I'm fine,” I told her and the way she looked at me made me smile.
With her way about knowing everything, I'd expected she would have found out my abilities by now but I guess that wouldn't be happening soon.
The second I crossed the barrier, the demons all rushed towards me and they bowed.
“Oh wow, to what do I owe this honor?”
“You're our queen, we're here to protect and guide you,” one of them replied to me, “My name is Spencer and our Master has gone on a quest to stop his father from hurting you so he sent us to watch over you.”
I sighed, that intense feeling of sadness and dread returning.
I should return back to the safety of the safe house but I needed to be as close as possible when he got back from his sojourn.
“Thank you all for putting your lives in danger repeatedly for me. Join us, we're heading back to Romania,” I told them and headed back towards Kiara who was stood, watching me.
“I assume we won't be using public airlines?” I muttered as she then led me to one of several SUVs.
“No, we have our own private transport and a jet is definitely faster than going to the airport. We'll use two.”
I nodded and got into the backseat with her.
It was time to go back home.
