Chapter 145 Cry a Cradle
Chapter 145: Cry a Cradle
Sylvia's pov.
“About what?”
I knew I was being rude and upfront but I couldn't care less, for all I cared, he could have me locked away for my behaviour.
The only people who would be worried would be my family.
He seems to struggle to find his words and there really wasn't the time to be wasting around, waiting on His Royal Highness.
“I do need to get back to what I was doing.”
His nostrils twitched, fists bawled, and then the words came out, “You cannot be speaking to him any longer,” hands on his waist in an imposing nonchalant manner, “You know the consequence.”
“Then lock me up, or better still, do to me what you did to my father.”
Silence ensued afterwards, his gaze hardened as his jaws locked tight, “Well if you keep outsiders and rivals around you then perhaps I would do just that.”
My nose twitched in a sneer, even though I wanted to keep Ezekiel away for my own reasons and his own protection, hearing it from Isaac only wanted me to break my resolve more.
“What is it to you anyway, why the fuck can't you just leave me alone?”
I didn't know where this audacity was coming from but I hoped it didn't go anywhere so soon.
Isaac didn't seem to mind, which was weird, he was the kind of person to demand respect rather than earn it, and any form of disrespect would be treated immediately.
I was right, his body was tender, jaws clenched tightly as he controlled himself, “This is my pack, it is for our safety as well as yours.”
“My safety?” I was taken aback chuckling in surprise, “Since when did you give a fuck about my safety?” I mocked but I was deeply hurt and angered by his words.
Having been friends since a young age, one would think we would be close friends for life and yet there we were.
Our relationship was worse than ever, that was considering if there was anything left.
Not to me at least.
“You ignored me, treated me like everyone else,” my voice was filled with rage and hurt, “Everyone was against me and my family, and the one person I thought I could trust…”
“The one person I thought I could count on, led the crowd to despise me even more!”
You rejected me.
I thought I had healed but I guess I was cut too deeply, the wounds opened back up.
His stoic expression remained although I imagine I saw a shift in his gaze, but it was probably my own imagination.
Hot tears brimmed at the corners of my eyes as I wiped them furiously away, I told myself that I wasn't going to cry for him.
Never again.
After his rejection, everything went down hill, his attitude towards me worsened and his actions and leadership almost had me killed.
All because I wanted to be seen, to be included like the rest of them.
“You don't give a fuck about my safety, and I don't give a fuck about you,” I said, exhaustion taking over as I was done with this conversation, I turned away disappointedly and walked towards my home.
Back at the house, exhaustion took over, my muscles were fatigued as I plumped on the couch heavily. I felt defeated, talking with Isaac.
Alfred was in the room along with my mother, they were both safe.
Having potentially lost the one person who cared about me other than my family.
Then the eminent threat against my life and indirectly, the life of my family. Although I promised myself I wasn't going to cry, my body needed a release.
And I took it.
Face down on the sofa, tears flowed from the corners of my eyes, soaking the couch. I was overwhelmed, the weight of everything finally catching up with me.
Silent sobs escaped my lips, all I couldn't think about was Ezekiel and how he must have felt.
I shouldn't have left him in the dark. I shouldn't have just walked away. The least I could have done was give him an explanation. Somehow, I was sure he would have understood.
I missed him so much.
Some days, I found myself replaying the moments we had shared. They hadn't lasted long, but they were the happiest moments of my life.
He made me feel... seen.
Like I mattered.
Like I wasn't just a traitor's daughter. Not some weak omega who was good for nothing.
He brought out a part of me I hadn't seen in years. He treated me with a kindness and care I had almost forgotten I deserved.
Eventually, exhaustion caught up with me, and I drifted off to sleep, tears still clinging to my lashes.
I was jolted awake by a knock at the door.
Still disoriented, I blinked several times as the knocking continued. My gaze swept around the room while I tried to gather my bearings, wondering who could possibly be visiting us at this hour. The sun had already set.
We hardly knew anyone who would come looking for us.
Then it clicked.
My body tensed instantly as I hurried to the door.
"Who's there?" I asked cautiously, pressing myself against the door with one hand wrapped tightly around the knob.
Before an answer came, a familiar scent drifted through the cracks.
It hit me all at once.
For a moment, I refused to believe it. I didn't want to. There was no way...
This had to be the universe playing another cruel trick on me.
But the scent was unmistakable, achingly familiar.
It stirred memories I had tried so hard to bury.
Unable to stand the suspense any longer, I twisted the knob as fast as I could and pulled the door open.
Standing on the other side was a face I never thought I would see again.
A face I had imagined countless times.
A sharp gasp escaped my lips.
My breathing turned ragged as I stumbled back a step, my eyes fixed on him in utter disbelief, already beginning to glisten with unshed tears.
"Ezekiel!"
