Chapter Thirty-Seven
“NO.” I growled, pacing the front of the desk, a place I was pushed to sit down less than ten minutes ago by my mate. It didn’t matter to me that there were people in this room that I didn’t know, I was not even concerned about learning about them. All I wanted was to learn that someone thought this would be a funny idea of a joke.
I. Was. Not. Laughing!
“I just found him…” I spun on my father. “I cannot be separated from him. Father, please tell me that you understand.”
“I do…” he stated even as his eyes shifted over my shoulders a little, signaling someone, my mate who envelops me in his arms.
“Calm Iris, you are working yourself into a frenzy.” Cirdan whispered, his father buried in my neck.
“See.” I pointed to Cirdan. “He calms me down; you cannot separate us.”
“You will not be separated.” The shifter king stated. “At least unless you two behave of course.”
“Anything.” I answered, nodding my head to the sliver of hope he just gave.
“You two will not make any contact as from tomorrow, we don’t have any right to keep you away as legal adults from each other but until then, you are to stay away from each other, with the closest you are allowed to be in close proximity is 4 feet and that is for classes. If you do not obey to the rules of separation for the next six months, then I am sorry to inform you princess that he would be punished for violation of the commands even if you were the one to break it.”
“Also, no communication through phones or otherwise, If we discover it, he will be punished.”
“Why is this happening?” I groaned. Tears tracking down my face even as I raised my head to see Cirdan’s helpless expression, like he was being gutted by the order, that was when I realized my parents were among the council.
“Wait, did you guys vote against me?”
“Of course not. You might have a love hate relationship with me but trust me, I am not that cruel.” My mother replied. I looked at my father who shook his head sadly.
“There was nothing which anybody could do. The best we could do was to make it a rounded law so that it would not target just you because some races are scared of you.” My father responded, sending a glare at the fairy queen who really looked close to smiling.
“No mates for any royal until the legal age of maturing is reached.” My mother said with relish. “I cannot wait to see your children’s suffering and I would make it just as hard as that of my daughter.”
“Please, our children would not be kidnapped to be used as a lot against us and then the people would succeed in…” The fairy queen started only to pause when a large growl tore the room, everybody except me looked that the shifter king but not me, I looked at the real person that the growl came from, a person that was extremely furious that what I went through has been reduced into a sparring material between queens.
“She is still my mate and the princess of the Folks; I suggest that you give her that respect.” Cirdan bit at the fairy queen who stared at him in shock.
“That is who is supposed to calm her down?” Her eyes wide in shock. “Their children will be a complete nightmare!”
This time, growls came from four people.
“Try not to get yourself killed.” The Dark king said to the fairy queen who opened her mouth to say something extra but thought better about it and closed her mouth once more.
“We still have the whole day right?’ Cirdan spoke and at once, my attention snapped towards him.
“Yes. It is the most we can give you.”
“Then I rather not spend it here with you all.” With that Cirdan bowed and reached for me.
“Don’t do anything stupid like get married to her boy?” The shifter king said as Cirdan dragged me off my seat.
“I won’t I am okay with her being my fiancée for now.” He returned just as we left the room, a second after, the room exploded in chaos as everybody started talking but Cirdan did not slow down. He didn’t even concern himself with the bomb he dropped in on them.
And to be sincere, I didn’t too. Not when there was a countdown to the time I would be separated from my mate.

Finn:
“Your majesty, you do know that it is risky for us to keep meeting. It would not go over well if my cover were blown.”
“Your cover is not the only thing that is in danger of blowing right now, your head is included.” Nambra snapped, something had made the queen angry, angry enough to be serious in a way that was unnatural of her. At least not when she wants to give a new directive on how I should fuck up her daughter’s life. “Why did you not tell me?”
“Tell you what…” I asked confused.
“That Cirdan and Iris…” She started but couldn’t seem to make herself spit pout the words. “The new development between them.”
“There is a new development.” I asked surprised.
“What use are you if you don’t even know?” The queen would have yelled those words if we were back in the light territory, in her castle where she could control every information that passes through the wall but not here and since she could not, she settled for gritting out the words.
“I can assure you my queen that if I don’t know then they have not told anybody, and it is a very new development.” I returned. And the queen paused then collected herself, recoiling all her aura leaking through her tight leash like she was putting on a mask once more.
“Then it is no issue. It would not matter. Cirdan and iris have been officially separated, now I want you to do your job and remove Cirdan from Iris life even more if it is possible. Younglings always have a way of evading the law, I want you to remove that way.”
“But they are mates…”
The queen rolled her eyes like my words were annoying her. “I know they are mates; I also know that he has too much control over her because of that and I cannot afford anything that would control her other than me and mine so do what I ordered you do to. Are we clear?”
I nodded and the queen left soon after that. I walked back to my room, wondering what developed between Cirdan and Iris that made the queen to give that order but ended up putting it out of my mind. I would know eventually, might even learn of it tomorrow.
I did learn of it, but it was from the rumor mills not Iris or Cirdan themselves, they were pretty much missing throughout the next day and everybody understood.
Mates separated, but he had already proposed. Those were just snippets of larger stories flying through the rumor mills.
Rumors I was starting to believe were true.
