Chapter 50 Seducing You
After hanging up, Bert floored it and headed home.
The more he thought about it, the madder he got. But luckily, everything was already sorted out, and all he had to do now was wait.
"Mr. Pierce, Ms. Garcia is here," the maid announced.
Hearing Shirley's name, Bert felt a wave of irritation.
"Let her in," he said, not bothering to hide his impatience.
Shirley had dressed extra sexy today, but still managed to look innocent, showing just the right amount of skin.
As soon as she walked in, she clung to Bert's arm. "Bert, it's been ages since you visited me."
"I've been busy," Bert replied curtly.
Shirley bit her lip, thinking, 'Liar!' But she got to the point, "Bert, will you marry me?"
She asked carefully. Bert felt a pang of guilt and said, "Of course, but it'll take some time."
"Is it because of Vera?" Shirley pressed.
"Of course not, why would I care about her?" Bert shot back.
He gently stroked Shirley's head, explaining, "It's because you're still too weak. I don't want anything to go wrong. I want to give you an amazing wedding."
"But first, I need to find a matching bone marrow for you," Bert said. "Only then can you be completely cured. Vera's not helping at all right now. If anything happens to you, I'd be devastated."
Hearing his heartfelt words, Shirley's resolve wavered. Bert must love her; after all, he'd punished Vera so many times for her.
He was just not used to Vera suddenly leaving. But she still needed to win Arnold's heart.
Bert was her backup plan. So she couldn't give up on him just yet.
"You're so good, I love you, Bert," Shirley said, tilting her head up, blinking her eyes, and kissing Bert's lips as she unzipped his pants.
Vera bought some nutritious meals and made sure Bert wasn't in the ward before returning. Finding it empty, she went back in with peace of mind.
"Why did it take so long? Did Bert give you a hard time?" Arnold asked.
"No, he's always like that. I don't know where he gets his confidence from," Vera replied.
"The Pierce family used to spoil him and saw him as the sole heir," Arnold explained.
"What about you?" Vera asked.
"I took it from him. He's a nobody, and I've made something of myself. Anyone would know who to choose," Arnold said.
"You did well," Vera said, feeling a sense of revenge.
"Don't you feel sorry?" Arnold asked.
"Not at all. Scum like him deserves to be crushed," Vera said, then realized Bert was also part of the Pierce family. She covered her mouth, looking guilty. "He's your nephew."
Arnold smiled faintly, "It's okay, say whatever you want. We're not really related, just competitors."
Vera couldn't help but laugh. Just then, Charles woke up, looking adorable in his sleepy state. His eyes squinted into tiny slits. "Mom..."
It was a soft whisper, but clear enough in the quiet ward for both of them to hear. Vera's eyes met Arnold's, and she knew she hadn't imagined it. She carefully sat down next to Charles.
"What did you just say?" Vera asked gently.
Charles, still half-asleep, mumbled something about the scent on Vera before burying his head in her arms and drifting back to sleep.
Arnold said, "Don't rush this. When I found him, he was like a wild animal. It took a year to get him to act like a normal kid."
"Found him? Isn't he your biological child?" Vera's heart filled with hope.
Arnold explained, "I found him when he was three and a half. It was only after a blood test mix-up that I found out he was mine."
The hope in Vera's eyes dimmed. It seemed Charles wouldn't be her child after all.
When her child was abandoned, she was still recovering, bleeding and desperate. She searched everywhere, even the police station, but there was no report of a found child. She waited every day for news, even hoping someone would accuse her of abandonment just to get some closure.
She survived prison by clinging to the hope of finding her child. But as time passed, that hope faded. She even hired private detectives, but they found nothing.
Seeing Vera's desolate look, Arnold vaguely remembered that Vera had a child who died shortly after birth. Maybe she was placing all her hopes on Charles. But that was a good thing.
Two weeks later, Arnold was ready to leave the hospital, though his shoulder still needed a splint for another month before the next check-up.
After dropping Charles off at the psychologist's office, Vera returned to the ward to help Arnold pack.
As soon as she opened the door, she saw Arnold's bare upper body, white bandages wrapped around his shoulder and arm, his muscular chest, abs, and even the V-line exposed.
Even though Vera had seen it before, she couldn't help blushing and feeling her heart race. She thought, 'He is so sexy.'
"What's wrong?" Arnold asked, already walking up to her.
He naturally wrapped his arms around Vera's waist. "Never seen it before?"
"No, it's just that you look too sexy..." Vera said, looking at the man who was teasing her. She couldn't help but tease back, "Are you seducing me?"
"Yeah, I'm seducing you. Any thoughts?" Arnold said, resting his head on her shoulder, his breath warm against her skin.
Arnold's calmness made Vera's mind go blank for a moment. "You're still injured."
"But, Ms. Garcia, you've turned me on," Arnold said, pulling Vera's hand to touch his erect penis.
"I'm a patient," he was now whimpering pitifully. This was nothing like the cold, domineering man he usually was.
"I'll go to the bathroom," Arnold sighed.
"Wait, let me help you..."
A smile crept up on Arnold's face.
