Chapter 29 Aria’s First Gathering as Luna
Chapter 29 : Aria’s First Gathering as Luna
Aria’s POV
The morning sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the packhouse, spilling over the polished floors and delicate curtains. I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the silver embroidery on my dress for what felt like the hundredth time. My fingers trembled slightly, not because the dress was uncomfortable, but because of the weight of the role I was about to step into. Today wasn’t just a normal day. Today, I would meet the women of the pack—not as a guest, not as a daughter, but as Luna. The number one lady of the pack. The woman everyone would look to, respect, and, whether they admitted it or not, judge.
My chest tightened, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might burst. I can do this. I am ready. I am Luna now.
I forced myself to take a deep breath and steady my nerves. But even as I tried to calm my racing thoughts, a thousand questions flooded my mind. Will they like me? Will they accept me? Or will they see me as an intruder, as someone unworthy of this position?
Just as I turned to straighten the final folds of my dress, I felt the familiar presence behind me. Aiden.
He leaned casually against the doorframe, hands in his pockets, his sharp eyes taking in my reflection. A small, teasing smile touched his lips.
“You’re overthinking again,” he said softly. “You look… perfect. Stunning. But don’t make it stiff. Today, they need to see you, not a statue frozen in fear.”
I laughed nervously, brushing a strand of hair from my face. “I… I know. I just… what if I fail? What if they don’t respect me?”
He stepped closer, tilting his head, his gaze softening. “Aria, listen. Respect isn’t demanded. It’s earned in the way you carry yourself. The confidence comes naturally when you focus on your purpose, not their opinions.”
I swallowed hard. His words grounded me in a way no one else could. There was a quiet strength in Aiden, a calm certainty that made my own fears feel smaller. I nodded, trying to take his advice to heart.
The packhouse was already alive with soft murmurs and the shuffle of footsteps when we entered. Women of all ages had gathered—some in flowing dresses of deep hues, some in simple, elegant garb. Their eyes turned toward us the moment we stepped in. Some stared openly, some whispered to each other, curiosity and doubt mingling in the air. A few glanced at each other, exchanging subtle nods.
I could feel the weight of their gazes, the unspoken scrutiny pressing on me. I walked beside Aiden, keeping my head held high, trying to maintain composure, though my chest felt tight and my stomach fluttered with nerves.
Some faces showed admiration. Others were cautious, their expressions almost challenging. And then, of course, there were those who clearly didn’t hide their jealousy.
I swallowed. I am Luna now. This is my place. I will not shrink.
Aiden stopped at the front of the room, his presence commanding attention even without raising his voice. “Luna Aria,” he said, turning toward me, “today you will speak with the women of the pack. This is your moment.”
The room fell silent, the air thick with tension. A hush spread like a wave, broken only by the soft shuffle of gowns on the floor. Some women’s eyes were wide with curiosity; others narrowed slightly, as if measuring me, weighing my worth.
I took a deep breath and stepped forward, every step deliberate. My hands were steady this time, my voice quiet but clear.
“Thank you, Alpha Aiden,” I began, my heart still hammering in my chest. “I am honored to stand here today. Not just as his mate, but as the Luna of this pack. I hope to earn your trust, your respect, and to work with each of you to ensure our pack remains strong, safe, and united.”
Aiden gave me a small nod from the side, just enough to remind me that he was there, silently supporting me. His confidence bolstered mine.
The first whispers began almost immediately.
One of the older women leaned slightly toward another, her voice low but sharp. “She’s young… can she really understand what it means to be Luna?”
I felt a prickling in my chest. They doubt me. They think I’m inexperienced. They think I don’t belong.
I forced my shoulders back and lifted my chin. “I may be young,” I said firmly, my voice carrying across the room, “but I have faced hardships. I have learned to protect those I love, to care for those who cannot defend themselves, and to stand strong when faced with challenges. I promise to bring this strength to this role, to serve this pack with my heart and my loyalty.”
The whispers softened. A few women nodded. Some even smiled faintly. I felt a small spark of confidence flicker inside me.
Then, I saw her—Mina. She had managed to be present, seated quietly at the back of the room, her posture straight, her lips pressed into a thin line. Her eyes were sharp, calculating, and her expression was cold. She’s plotting, I thought, my chest tightening. But I forced the thought aside. I could not let her ruin this moment—not now, not ever.
I focused on the women who were before me, who were listening, even skeptically. “I am not here to take anyone’s place,” I continued. “I am here to work with all of you. To ensure every woman in this pack feels respected, valued, and safe. Together, we can build a stronger family, a stronger community, a stronger pack.”
A few women nodded, approval faint but visible. I felt a wave of pride surge through me. This was the first sign of acceptance, the first acknowledgment that maybe, just maybe, I could succeed.
One young woman, clearly nervous, spoke up. “Luna Aria… how can we trust that you will make fair decisions? How can we know that you will consider our voices?”
I met her gaze steadily. “You will see through my actions,” I said. “I will listen, I will consider advice, and I will act with fairness and care. Trust is earned, not given. I ask only that you watch, judge me by my deeds, and give me the chance to prove myself.”
A murmur of approval rippled through the room. I could see the faintest smiles forming. Even a few of the older women inclined their heads slightly. My confidence surged with each nod, each approving glance.
Mina remained quiet, but I could feel her tension radiating through the room. Her hands tightened in her lap. Her lips twitched into what looked like a faint, cruel smile. She was watching, analyzing, waiting for a moment to strike—but I didn’t allow myself to dwell on it. I had my own moment to claim.
I took another deep breath, letting my voice soften slightly, but keeping its strength. “I am here to lead alongside you,” I said. “Not above you. We are a family. And in this family, every voice matters. I am asking for your trust, your support, and your guidance. Together, we can ensure that this pack thrives—now and for generations to come.”
The room shifted. Approval was growing. Respect was forming. Some women whispered quietly, yes, but they were no longer hostile—they were curious, intrigued.
Aiden, standing beside me silently, brushed his hand lightly against mine, just enough to remind me he was there. I smiled faintly at him, grateful for his quiet support. I didn’t need him to speak for me—this was my stage—but knowing he believed in me made every word feel easier, stronger.
I stepped back, lowering my hands, and took a moment to let it sink in. This was only the first step, but it was a crucial one. I had faced scrutiny, nerves, and doubt, and I had held my ground. I had begun to earn their respect.
I caught Mina’s eyes one last time. Her lips pressed tighter, her eyes glinting with anger. I knew she would not give up, that her schemes would not end here. But I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time—confidence.
I was Luna. I had begun to earn my place. And no one—no one—would take that from me.
Aiden’s hand slid into mine as we left the room, and he whispered softly, “You did exactly what a Luna should do. I’m proud of you.”
I let myself smile, feeling the tension in my chest ease slightly. The road ahead would not be easy—Mina would continue to plot, whispers would continue, and challenges would come. But today, I had taken my first true step into this new life. And it felt… right.
