Chapter 14: ""Well hurry it up female!""
**Chapter 14**
Like Matt, Lauren was able to recall everything that had happened while under Sarah’s spell. ‘Although’ Lauren thought, ‘technically it wasn’t Sarah’s spell.’ Sarah couldn’t do any actual magic. Not even wolf magic.
Upper rank wolves, like Elite Enforcers, Delta Enforcers, Gammas, Betas, and Alpha’s…all had wolf magic. It was elemental, and not as strong as it was when the Werewolves were first born, nearly two million years ago. The first Werewolf, the Moon Goddesses mate, was said to have been born nearly five million years before that.
Most of the History of how things came to be, got clouded after a few million years. The only ones who could possibly know the original origins of most all the species on earth, were the Dragons, because they have existed for a hundred and fifty million years. But they were a little stingy with their knowledge.
There were wolves who could do more magic than others, but this was usually the result of having a few traces of Witch blood somewhere in their ancestry. You would think you could smell it on a wolf, but after the blood is diluted by so much it no longer left that distinctive scent that would label you a hybrid.
When everyone found out who Clan Alpha Alora’s real father was, the power difference between Sarah and Alora made sense. Alora’s father was the extremely powerful King of all Vampires, Sebastian Silver Dayblood.
Alora had also been under a black magic spell at one point. This one bound her Sprite Selena and her scent. Matt’s rejection had broken the spell, just as Alora’s rejection of Matt had broken his.
Lauren glanced up at Matt, both of his mates had one thing in common, they’ve both been Sarah’s victims. Only this time, at least Matt wasn’t screwing his second mate's sister…admittedly, it *was* while under a spell…not exactly consensual.
Matt and Lauren made their way into the underground garage. Matt was parked near the entrance, in the spaces reserved for the Beta and his family. Using the key fob he started the car remotely. The top was already down, so using their spring-like legs, they hopped into the car without opening the doors.
That was the cool thing about Werewolves, it was like they had springs in their legs and they could jump really high. Although not as high as some of the feline shifters. For felines, it was like their whole body was a spring, especially the tigers.
Those big bastards could be so mean, and you never want to go up against a basketball team full of them, it was best just to hand in the towel and save yourself the humiliation. If you like soccer, avoid any teams with cheetahs on them. For football, it was those big ass bears.
Not that any of this ever stopped a Werewolf. They could be absolutely ruthless, although not as ruthless as the honey badger and the wolverine shifters. Nothing stopped them, and they loved to mess with you just to mess with you, vicious little bastards.
Wolves didn’t welcome them very much. Because the only two species that has enough balls to steal from a Werewolf, was a honey badger and their close cousin the wolverine.
They were out on the open road before Matt looked over at Lauren and asked, “What are you thinking about?” in a curious tone.
“Honey Badgers.” Lauren responded.
At first, Matt was surprised then he grimaced “Those vicious little bastards, why are you thinking about them?” He asked, having no idea why his friend would be thinking about those mean tempered shifters.
“Not sure…I started out thinking about Sarah, and the fact that the spell wasn’t actually *her* spell.” Lauren told him.
“Ooookay….but how did that lead to honey badgers?” Matt asked, more confused now than he was before.
Although Matt felt he shouldn’t be surprised, his friend did tend to go from one random subject to another. Lauren was constantly thinking about all kinds of things, her brain almost never stopped.
“Well it led me to the thought about the fact that Sarah doesn’t even have Wolf magic, let alone Witch magic.” Lauren said, waving her hands as she was talking.
That was another thing about his friend, she would use her hands to help her tell her story. “This still doesn’t tell me how honey badgers are involved.” Matt said, ‘What does wolf magic have to do with honey badgers?’ he wondered.
Lauren waved a hand at him in a ‘hold on’ gesture. “I’ll get to that part, I promise.” she said, a bit of a twinkle entering her eyes at Matt’s impatience and confusion.
‘She’s deliberately drawing this out, I know she is’ he thought internally. “Well hurry it up, female!” Matt said aloud, a growl of impatience in his voice.
Lauren let out a small peel of laughter, enjoying teasing her friend. “Anyway, that got me thinking about the first Werewolf.”
“The Moon Goddesses mate?” Matt asked, his expression back to being confused. Matt was starting to think the Dragon’s had a reason to believe wolves were a mentally unstable species. Sarah alone was proof of that…and her mother.
“Yeah, and then I started to think about world history, and how the only beings able to give any accurate accounting on it were the Dragon's.” Lauren told him.
“Yeah, but they're super stingy with their knowledge.” Matt commented, rolling his eyes.
Dragon’s wouldn’t let the written information leave their territories, and they didn’t like anything not another Dragon in their territories. Especially a species they considered mentally unstable.
‘Just because there wolves had their own personalities and emotions, separate from the humanoid form, didn’t meant they were *all* mentally unstable.’ Matt thought. ‘Just the ones like Sarah…and her now deceased mother.’
Lauren laughed. “I was thinking the same thing.” She said after she sobered.
Matt had a half smile on his face, it was nice to hear his friend laugh. Now if she would only tell him why she was thinking about honey badgers. “I still want to know how honey badgers fit into this.” He told Lauren.
“Okay, okay.” Lauren said, holding her hands in front of her in a staying motion.
Matt glanced at her hands, glared a second, then turned his eyes back to the road after letting out a huff of annoyance.
“Anyway, after that we hopped into the car, and I was thinking about how springy the legs of Werewolves were.”
Matt nodded, not commenting this time, trying his best to remain patient.
“This got me thinking about feline shifters, and how springy their entire bodies are.” Lauren said.
‘Okay….’ Matt thought, ‘this has to be going somewhere.’ His expression was just a little stunned.
Lauren observing this smiled, amused by his confusion. “Which got me thinking about tiger feline shifters and Basketball.”
A Dark look came over Matt’s face, tiger’s and Basketball. “That’s just asking for a beating.” He growled out.
“Yup,” Lauren agreed. “and that led to how you shouldn’t play soccer with cheetahs.”
Matt grinned darkly. “They can’t run so fast if their leg is broken.” Echoing the words Ares was saying inside him. Ares thought those smug felines could do with a chewed up leg or four.
Lauren looked at Matt wide eyed and opened mouthed, letting out a shocked laugh. “I can’t believe you just said that.” her voice coming out a little squeaky.
Which Matt thought was interesting, considering Lauren’s voice was a smoky alto. It could almost be considered sultry, if she ever used it to deliberately seduce a male.
“Get back to it, where do the honey badgers come in?” Matt asked, trying to distract her from him and his wolf’s dark humor.
“Okay, well after the cheetahs and soccer, I thought of football and bears.” Lauren said, pausing to look at Matt’s face, she knew what was coming, and was rewarded for her patience.
Matt scrunched up his shoulders and his face twisted in a grimace of sympathetic, and remembered, pain. Sucking in a hissing breath as he did so. There were a few Bear and Bear hybrids in the Pack, and they had played on the high school football team.
Matt had also been on the football team, and had been hit by a few of them during team practice. It was not a fun feeling to remember, and it wasn’t as if Werewolves lost that often against bear shifters anyway. Werewolves could be ruthless.
Lauren chuckled. “Remembering our school’s away games, I remembered how ruthless Werewolves could be.” she said with a grin.
Matt was stunned as soon as she said these words. It was like all the dots suddenly connected. He knew his feelings of shocked understanding were reflected on his face when Lauren let out another stream of delighted laughter.
“Honey badger shifters are even more ruthless than Werewolves.” Matt said aloud slowly, understanding in his tone.
“Yeah, well…honey badgers and wolverines.” Laren said, her delight in her voice.
“And yet, despite their name, wolverines are not wolves or even of a canine shifter species.” Matt commented aloud.
“Right, who ever thought about naming a mustelidae species wolverine anyway?” Lauren asked.
“Don’t know, but they’re an asshole.” Matt said, making Lauren laugh more.
