Chapter 285 285
Chapter 285 285
Oscar
As soon as the sun rises, we leave the Novoa estate and head to the airport. The trip becomes a nightmare of fuel stops and waiting times that delay our arrival by several hours. It’s already night when the pilot informs us we’re less than two hours from Phoenix.
"Are you okay?" I ask Luna, who keeps yawning. Her eyes shut every few seconds, and at some point, she even nodded off against my shoulder.
"Exhausted," she whispers.
"You can still sleep for a bit. I’ll wake you when we land."
"Thanks," she says with a sigh.
She takes a deep breath and looks into my eyes. I don’t know if it’s the tiredness or the sleep, but I feel like she’s seeing me—for who I am, as a man, not just her friend. Her fingers slide gently across my cheek, and she grabs me by the nape to bring my mouth to hers. The kiss isn’t passionate or aggressive, quite the opposite. Her lips move slowly over mine, and I’d even dare say… tenderly. She’s kissing me the way she doesn’t usually let me kiss her.
When she pulls back, I can’t stop a smile from forming on my face. I can’t screw this up now. I’ve come so far… Just weeks ago, I was jerking off outside the bathroom while spying on her showering. And now I’m here, with the woman I’ve always loved, looking at me the way I’ve always dreamed. I know I need to find a way to control my outbursts to keep her. What happened on the road, after our night at the pub, can’t happen again.
I don’t make another move or pressure her to kiss me again. I let her decide what she wants to do next. I’m surprised when she climbs into my lap and rests her head in the crook of my neck. I wrap my arms around her legs and pull her tighter against my body.
"I’m going to make you love me," I whisper into her hair before kissing it.
I feel her smile against my skin just before her breathing slows. For the first time in my life, I feel something close to happiness. This is everything I’ve ever wanted. I don’t need anything else but Luna, and I’ll have her, even if I have to burn the world down and roll in its ashes—she’ll be mine forever.
Luna
As has become the norm these past few days, Oscar doesn’t let go of my hand for a second as we disembark and make our way through the airport. The strangest thing is that I don’t try to let go either, because despite all my fears and doubts… I think I like it.
No man has ever insisted on holding my hand or stayed in bed with me after sex. No one’s ever been jealous of me or stroked my hair for hours while I slept. Only Oscar—always him.
Is this what I’ve been avoiding all these years?
Pablo is waiting for us outside the airport, and we get into the backseat of the SUV.
"How was the trip?" he asks, glancing at us in the rearview mirror as he merges onto the road.
Oscar and I exchange a look and smile. Our hands are still interlocked, and he lifts them to place a soft kiss on the back of mine.
"A success," he replies without taking his eyes off me. "Everything went exactly as planned."
I roll my eyes, and his smile widens just as a phone starts ringing in his pocket. He pulls it out, glances at the screen, then answers with a frown. He asks what’s going on, listens for a few seconds, then replies, "I’m on my way," and hangs up.
"Who was it?" I ask.
He exhales sharply and shakes his head.
"Lina. Something’s going on at the club."
"Something like what?"
"It’s Beni. He’s been locked in his office all night. People heard glass breaking and things being smashed, and he’s refusing to let anyone in."
I lean back in my seat while Oscar tells Pablo to change course and head for Madness. I care about Beni, I do… but sometimes I wish he’d pull his head out of his ass and realize the world doesn’t revolve around his dick.
The booming music and crowd of people dancing and laughing greet us the moment we step into the club. Oscar leads the way, pulling me by the hand. He walks straight to the main bar, and Lina comes toward us quickly.
"I don’t know what the hell he’s doing up there, but…" Lina sighs and points toward the large glass window that overlooks the entire club, though it’s now opaque, blocking any view inside. "I couldn’t care less, honestly, but I figured you’d want to know something’s not right."
"Does anyone have a key?" Oscar shouts over the music.
"I think there’s a code…" She sighs loudly and raises a hand to signal us to wait. She leans in and whispers something to another bartender, then jerks her chin for us to follow her.
Oscar grabs my hand again and we follow her upstairs. She stops in front of the locked door and waits for us to catch up. Oscar jiggles the handle and then pounds on the door a couple of times, but there’s no response.
"You know the code?" I ask, pointing at the keypad.
"One, three, one, two, five, one." I narrow my eyes at her, and she shrugs. "I saw him enter it. I’ve got a good memory."
Oscar ignores us and quickly punches in the code. The door clicks open, and he releases my hand to step into the office. We both follow. Broken glass crunches under our feet as we walk inside. There are half-drunk bottles of tequila and other liquors scattered among the few pieces of furniture still intact. It looks like a hurricane tore through the place—and the eye of that storm is sprawled on the couch, half unconscious.
"Shit," Oscar mutters, rushing over to him. He grabs Beni by the shoulders and shakes him. "Beni! Beni!"
"Is he drunk?" I ask, stepping closer.
Beni opens his eyes and blinks a few times before flashing a lopsided grin. Oscar grabs his face and forces him to look him in the eyes.
"High too. What the hell did you take, kid?"
"You want some?" Beni slurs with a drunk giggle.
Oscar lets him go and takes a step back.
"If Zeldric finds out—"
"Fuck Zeldric!" Beni yells, stumbling to his feet. "Fuck you too!"
"Stop acting like an idiot," I snap.
Beni leans to the side to peer past Oscar’s broad frame, spotting Lina and me. A malicious smirk curls his lips.
"Lunita, did you come here so I could fuck you? It’s been a while since you had my cock in your mouth. We need to fix that. Come here and—"
Before he can finish the sentence, Oscar already has him on the floor with a punch.
"Son of a bitch," I hiss through my teeth.
