Chapter 140 Chapter 140

Chapter 140 Chapter 140
One week later...

It had been a week since Liam confessed his feelings to Logan.

A week since Logan gently rejected him.

For the past seven days, Liam hadn't reached out even once.

At first, Logan found it a little strange. Liam usually replied to his messages almost immediately, but now... nothing.

Eventually, Logan convinced himself that Liam probably needed some space after what had happened.

If staying away would help him move on, then Logan respected that.

Still...

The thought of losing Liam's friendship made his chest tighten a little.

He truly hoped it wouldn't come to that.

Thankfully, everything else in his life was going perfectly.

Things between him and Chase had never been better.

And then there was Lucky.

The tiny orange kitten had settled into their apartment surprisingly fast.

Unfortunately...

He had also transformed into a tiny orange menace.

Despite being so small, Lucky somehow managed to create enough chaos for five cats combined.

One moment he'd be chasing after Chase's shoelaces.

The next, he'd somehow climb onto the kitchen counter and knock something over.

Every single day ended with Chase throwing his hands into the air dramatically.

"I'm taking him back to the shelter."

"You've said that seventeen times already." Logan would remind him.

"And I mean it every single time."

"...Sure you do."

The funny thing was...

Chase loved Lucky just as much as Logan did.

Maybe even more.

He was the one feeding him every morning.

He bought him expensive toys.

He brushed his fur before bed.

He even let Lucky sleep curled up against his chest every night...

Something he'd specifically forbidden when Logan first begged to adopt him.

Watching Chase completely contradict himself had become one of Logan's favorite forms of entertainment.

By the time Logan returned home from hockey practice that evening, he was exhausted.

He unlocked the apartment door and stepped inside.

"Babe, I'm home."

No answer.

He slipped off his shoes and walked farther into the apartment.

The moment he entered the living room...

He froze.

His lips twitched.

Then...

He burst into laughter.

Right in the middle of the couch sat Chase.

He was wearing an oversized shark costume.

On his lap was Lucky...

Wearing an identical tiny shark costume.

The two of them were completely absorbed in watching a cartoon on television.

Lucky's tiny ears poked through the little hood while Chase occasionally pointed at the screen like he was explaining the plot to him.

Neither of them noticed Logan standing there.

"Babe!" Logan called between laughs.

Chase jumped so hard he nearly fell off the couch.

He whipped his head around.

The second his eyes landed on Logan...

His entire face turned bright red.

Without a second's hesitation, he hurriedly kept Lucky on the couch, and yanked the shark hood off his head before frantically trying to unzip the costume.

"I wasn't doing anything."

Logan laughed even harder.

"Oh really?"

"I wasn't."

"So..." Logan struggled to catch his breath. "I didn't just walk in and see you dressed like a shark while watching cartoons with our cat?"

Chase folded his arms stubbornly. "I was entertaining him."

Logan looked down at Lucky.

Lucky blinked innocently.

Then let out a tiny...

"Meow."

Logan lost it again.

He doubled over laughing, clutching his stomach.

"Oh my God..."

"I can't breathe..."

Chase pouted. "It's not that funny."

"It absolutely is."

"It isn't."

"It really is."

Chase let out an exaggerated sigh. "He looked bored."

"So naturally..." Logan said between laughs, "your solution was to dress both of you as sharks?"

"It made sense in my head."

Logan wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes before walking over.

He gently picked Lucky up into his arms.

The kitten looked ridiculously adorable in the tiny costume.

Logan rubbed his little head.

"My poor baby."

He looked down at Lucky dramatically.

"What did Daddy make you wear, huh?"

Lucky answered with another tiny meow before rubbing his face against Logan's chin.

Logan smiled before looking back at Chase.

"Did you seriously order matching costumes today?"

Chase scratched the back of his neck.

"...Maybe."

"You did."

"...Maybe."

Logan couldn't stop smiling.

"I can't believe you actually spent money on this."

"I saw them online."

"And?"

"And..." Chase sighed dramatically. "They were cute."

"So you bought matching outfits?"

"They were on sale."

Logan raised an eyebrow.

"That's your excuse?"

"It's a perfectly valid excuse."

Logan shook his head, still grinning.

"You know..."

"I think you're more obsessed with Lucky than I am."

Chase scoffed immediately.

"Impossible."

"Oh?"

"You literally begged me to adopt him."

"And now you're buying him matching costumes."

Chase opened his mouth to argue...

Then closed it again.

"...That doesn't prove anything."

"It proves everything."

Chase pointed at Lucky. "He's the one who wanted the costume."

Logan stared at him.

"...He told you that?"

"He did."

"When?"

"This morning."

Logan laughed so hard he nearly dropped the kitten.

"You've officially lost your mind."

"I lost it the day I agreed to adopt that little troublemaker."

Lucky chose that exact moment to stretch out one tiny paw, as if trying to smack Chase.

Logan burst into another fit of laughter.

Chase stared at the kitten in disbelief.

"...I feed you."

Lucky blinked.

"I buy you toys."

Another blink.

"I even let you sleep on my side of the bed."

Lucky simply meowed.

Chase sighed dramatically and sat down on the couch.

"I've done everything for that little troublemaker, and he still tries to hit me."

Logan sat beside him, still holding Lucky, and leaned over to kiss Chase's cheek.

"For what it's worth..."

"I think you make a very handsome shark."

Chase looked at him sideways.

"...You're never letting me live this down, are you?"

"Absolutely not."

Logan smiled brightly. "I'm telling everyone."

Chase groaned while Lucky purred happily between them.

Neither of them knew this would be the last peaceful evening they'd have for a long time.
