CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE
CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE
ATHENA'S POV
Today I wanted to try something different. Something exclusive.
I was feeling excited. It was in this moment that I realized how much Adam affected my mood.
For now, I wasn’t sure if that was a safe thing.
For starters, I put on some clothes that actually made me feel better than normal. Instead of the regular gloomy hoodie to cover up myself. I put on a bright color.
A baby pink and some jeans.
Although it did make me appear like the Ghost of Tsushima, I feel like I looked better in it.
I couldn't tame my hair though, so I tied it in a floral-patterned scarf. And I did something else.
I put on some lipstick!
I know… I know… you don’t need to shout about it.
Grey was also looking forward to seeing Adam today. I think Grey and took a certain liking to him.
To also add to this conversation, my worry for Joe had subsided. He returned back to campus this morning and left me a very long and heartfelt note stating that he would always occasionally stop by and he wishes the best for me and Adam. It was so flattering.
So, apparently it was just Haylen that was missing out on a lot of things but she did inform me that she would be returning to school soon, and would definitely make sure to come check on me.
I knew it’s because she couldn’t stay away from her mate for too long.
Butter on toast relationship.
Now that we have finished that part of the story, I want us to come back and have a guess on what I'm about to do differently.
It has to do with school.
Have you guessed? Well… I have a feeling you’re wrong anyway.
I'll tell you what… I'm going to eat in the cafeteria.
Not a big news, but it was huge for me. Particularly adding to the fact that ever since then, Lydia and I haven't said a word to each other.
She hadn't checked on me, she hadn't reached out to me, both in school and outside. She never asked why I walked out of her house without any prior notice. She never asked why I also never got to talking to her.
Rather she chose to give me space, which I should have been the one to ask. But it was obvious she didn't want me around her. Perhaps she knew I overheard a conversation, or she's taking a personal solace in what her mother said and trying to give me distance so she doesn't feel guilty about it.
Maybe if it was happening to a stranger, she wouldn’t feel as bad about being happy with the situation.
It may not make sense any sense to an external person, but it did make a little bit of sense to me.
Either that, or the sickness is beginning to eat up at my brain.
Be kind enough and not agree with the latter option. Thank you.
But I decided to sit in the cafeteria, and in a completely different chair from where I was used to.
My old seat was by the announcement banners. It used to be Lydia, Dave and I, and after Dave got his mate, we had plus Angel.
My move to a new table was not just because I wanted to try normalcy again, but also because I wasn't really enjoying the company of Dave and Angel. It was like whenever they came around me, they became an awkward couple. Not bickering and bantering as they used to.
It made me wonder if their whole former act was just because of Lydia's presence and Angel wanted to rub it in.
But I don't think Dave would do that unless he didn't catch on to it quickly.
Well… he was quite slow sometimes. Same way he had no idea Lydia had a crush on him. Something that was obvious even to our school counselor that we encountered like once in every fortnight on an average.
Anyway, at the cafeteria, I was the only one at my table. Dave and Angel had probably gone to the library.
I ate my lunch peacefully with a lot of eyes staring down on me and some cameras flashing. But there was no need taking to heart what I could ignore.
Once I was done my Caesar salad, I took some multivitamin supplements my mom bought for me. According to her, it would help slow down my deterioration.
And then I walked out and got back to class.

The rest of school flew by with the breeze and the moment the school bell rang indicating the close of the day. I went looking for Gray.
Found him in less than five minutes exchanging cash for some Nintendo game pad, (I did not bother to ask) and walked outside the building.
I wanted to wait about fifteen minutes after to call Adam, but to my greatest surprise, he was already here.
