CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR

CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR
THIRD PERSON POV

Later on,

While Adam was on the phone call, he had no idea he was being eavesdropped on.

The hallway had seemed empty and quiet enough that he hadn't thought to lower his voice past its usual register. He never had reason to.

Especially not here. In a corridor that belonged to a palace he had helped build influence within.

The guard assigned to watch him was unrelenting and definitely deserving of an award of stealth. The only place he was yet to follow the CEO into, was the bathroom.

And he did not do that, simply out of respect of privacy.

Not because he could not do so.

When Adam walked back into the meeting, and returns to his seat; Amber gave him a quick look that he knew meant 'You took a while.', but he did not respond to that.

The table had settled into that particular restlessness you’d notice meetings developed once everyone had said their piece twice over, papers shuffled without purpose and patience worn thin as ice.

It wasn't long after, the guard assigned to watch Adam, walked into the meeting room as well.

His footsteps were unhurried. It was intentional because he needed to draw no attention from anyone except the one person in the room he'd actually come for.

The moment the young Alpha set his eyes on him, he couldn't help but look back to Adam and wonder what information he was about to receive.

He already alerted his mind that it wasn't going to be a pleasant one.

Something tightened behind Blake's composed exterior. It a stillness that had nothing to do with the merger still being argued around him.

The guard leaned into Blake's ear and whispered the words, 'He has an engagement with Miss Athena tomorrow after school.' Not giving him time to process and ask questions that clawed at his throat like 'What engagement?' 'Where are they meeting?' and 'Why the fuck is Adam acting like a thorn in his flesh?' as the guard stands erect and walked out of the meeting room.

Which was the best thing to do because he may have caused a scene.

Blake passed a little glare to Adam, which Adam noticed but couldn't figure out why.

The Alpha immediately he returned his gaze to the meeting.

. . . . . .

After the meeting ended, Adam and Amber were having a conversation about what time they should clock into work the next day, especially considering the fact that they were closing in late for today.

The palace halls had emptied out around them by then. With the elders and stakeholders filtering toward the exits in tired clusters. Murmurs of how much of a long day its been filled the air. And Amber concurred.

Amber was a fan of beauty sleep, claiming she needed a total of eight hours daily to be able to function optimally. All of which Adam knew was a lie.

Werewolves didn't need that much sleep, unless they were poisoned or during the winter.

He was about to call out Amber's bluff when he saw Blake marching up to the both of them in very quick strides that Adam thought would need much more work if he planned to present that on the runway of his coronation.

"Could you excuse us, Amber? I need to talk to him." He said.

Amber saw no need to argue, because she already understood the feud between the two men.

Also being a cause of one of the many. She stepped back immediately and gave them quite a far distance.

If possible, she wished she could disintegrate so she doesn't even hear what they are about to say by mistake.

Blake started, "Adam, what do you want?"

A confusion passed through the veins of the CEO, "Want from what?"

"From all of this. Why can't you leave my mate the fuck alone?"

Adam rolled his eyes, "I'm only going to respect you once before I disrespect you in the most miserable way I can think of and tell you to make sure you do not ever repeat this statement to me EVER again." Emphasis was laid on the word he needed to get across. Then he continued, "One, Atena is not your mate. Two, you have no control over what I'm fucking doing. Three, I can do whatever the hell I want, and four, I need you to get that through your Alpha shaped skull."

Blake was silent for a brief moment, like someone who was absorbing what he had just heard. "You're about to start something you can't finish, Adam."

"Trust me, there is nothing I cannot finish. Including you, Alpha." Adam replies and walked out on the next in line to the throne.
