Chapter 84 Old Wounds Relapse
Arthur's face instantly darkened. His eyes turned ice-cold as he stared at Lance and said coldly, "Who told you that? Aria?"
Had Aria even told Lance about their divorce?
Were she and Lance already that close? How did she view their relationship in her heart? What was Lance to her? A lifeline?!
All these speculations made Arthur's expression extremely ugly, his eyes filled with barely concealed anger.
Seeing that Arthur was no longer as calm as before, Lance sneered inwardly, though his face remained perfectly composed. "No one. I just guessed."
He was telling the truth. Aria really hadn't told him about this. He had merely made a guess based on her scattered words.
He was just voicing that guess now...
But Arthur refused to believe this was Lance's guess. In his view, if Aria hadn't said something, Lance wouldn't have guessed at all. For Lance to make such a guess, Aria must have done something.
Arthur had to admit that at this moment, he not only couldn't stay calm, he even wanted to kill someone.
"Well, Mr. Gray sure is good at guessing - always guessing about other people's relationship problems."
Arthur stopped holding back, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
No matter who this happened to, they wouldn't be in a good mood.
"Is Mr. Grant angry? I'm sorry, maybe because I'm usually abroad, my way of expressing things is a bit off. I hope Mr. Grant can forgive me."
Though the words were apologetic, Lance's tone held no trace of remorse.
"I have some things to attend to, so I'll be going. If Mr. Grant is really interested in that project in the east district, just contact my assistant directly."
Lance knew full well that Arthur didn't want to discuss any project with him. His purpose today was probably just to talk to him about Aria.
Well, what he'd said should be enough to get under Arthur's skin.
Undeniably, he did it on purpose.
During this time, watching Aria handle everything personally made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. She was clearly Grant Corp's lady, yet she had to work so hard running even a small studio.
Facing him, someone she'd never gotten along with since childhood, she could still patiently work on his project. This could only mean that Arthur hadn't given her enough security, making her so desperate to do all this.
Lance hadn't investigated what was between them, but from some of Aria's behaviors and her previous words, he could guess that something must have gone wrong in their relationship.
His probing today had confirmed some of his suspicions...
Arthur glanced at Lance and didn't stop him from leaving, just nodded lightly. "Mm, I'll have my assistant coordinate with your people later."
"Alright."
After Lance left, Arthur didn't leave immediately either. His mind kept replaying what Lance had just said. The wine glass in his hand, bearing the brunt of his anger, shattered...
Looking at the blood on his palm, Arthur could no longer sit still. He got up and left. After leaving the restaurant, he went straight to Aria's studio.
Unfortunately, he came up empty again - she wasn't there.
Arthur was about to call Aria when his phone rang first.
It was Sophie!
Seeing the incoming call, Arthur's anger dissipated somewhat, and his rationality gradually returned. He took a deep breath and answered.
"What's wrong?"
"Arthur, can you come to the hospital?"
Sophie's sweet voice came through the phone line, with a hint of pitifulness in her words.
Arthur paused, clearly not expecting Sophie to be at the hospital. Somewhat worried, he asked, "What happened? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?"
"It's where I got shot before. The old injury seems to have flared up, and it's not feeling too good..."
As soon as Sophie said this, Arthur was instantly filled with guilt. He couldn't care about Aria's matter anymore and quickly responded, "Okay, I'll come right away. Which hospital are you at?"
"The hospital where I had my wound treated before."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Arthur took a deep look in the direction of the studio, then drove straight to the hospital where Sophie was.
When he arrived at the hospital, Sophie had already had her wound treated and changed into a hospital gown. Seeing him arrive, her eyes reddened as if she'd suffered some great grievance.
Arthur's breath caught. He quickly walked up to her and asked with concern, "What happened? How did your old injury suddenly flare up? Does it hurt?"
Meeting Arthur's guilty eyes and seeing him so anxious for her, a trace of satisfaction crossed Sophie's heart. Sure enough, this method still worked best.
Actually, her old injury hadn't flared up at all. This was the best method she'd come up with after thinking for several days - pretending her old injury had flared up, using Arthur's sense of debt to pull his attention back to herself.
Otherwise, if things continued like this, Arthur's heart would probably become Aria's completely.
She naturally couldn't let that happen.
Arthur had no idea about Sophie's scheming. He only knew that Sophie had gotten this injury because of him. If it weren't for her, he probably would have died somewhere long ago. So he absolutely couldn't ignore her - both emotionally and logically, he couldn't!
"I don't know why either. Maybe it's because of the recent rainy weather. Every time it rains, the wound area aches faintly. It's just that this time it hurt quite badly, and I couldn't bear it, so I told you. Otherwise, I wouldn't have wanted to make you come all this way..."
Sophie's words were filled with deep self-reproach, as if she hadn't meant to disturb him, making Arthur feel even more guilty.
"What are you saying? If you're not feeling well, you should tell me directly. Otherwise, are you going to wait until something serious happens before notifying me?"
Arthur looked at the attending doctor nearby. "How is her condition? Is it serious?"
"The wound has been treated now, but she still needs to be careful. Don't let it get wet for the next few days. Oh, and the patient needs to keep a happy mood. If she's unhappy, it will also greatly affect the wound's recovery."
The attending doctor sighed lightly and looked at Arthur with faint reproach in her eyes. "As her boyfriend, you should be paying attention to her mood at all times. She's a girl - getting shot is already terrible enough, especially in that location..."
"Dr. Julie, don't say that... He's not..."
Seeing Dr. Julie criticizing Arthur, Sophie quickly tried to smooth things over, but before she could finish, Dr. Julie interrupted her. "Alright, you don't need to defend him. I've been around the block - look at his eyes, they're practically drowning in concern. What do you mean 'he's not'? Anyway, you just need to rest well now. I don't want to have saved your life back then only to send you off with my own hands now. Don't ruin my reputation! Got it?"
