Lucas Is Single
Lucas Is Single
MIRABELLA
Aiden's call woke me up from sleep and I quickly answered it when I saw his name flashing on my phone's screen.
"Tell me you have good news for me," I said desperately.
"Calm down, Ella," Aiden replied. "I agreed to help you so why won't I get the information you need? I think you and Nova can be friends in the future. Try being nice to her whenever you see her, she isn't so bad you know."
Although I appreciated Aiden's help, the things he was saying to me were not what I wanted to hear. However, I let him beat around the bush before he finally said, "Lucas is single and Nova is the only woman in his life.
He had her out of wedlock many years ago from his childhood sweetheart. They were so much in love back then but he didn't have a penny to his name. When she got pregnant, her parents were so disappointed that they kicked her out of the house.
She had a difficult life with Lucas who was poor back then as he tried to provide for her in his own way. She had it difficult during childbearing and died after birthing Nova.
Lucas took care of her until she grew. Their relationship seems very strong and she referred to him as her best friend.
When she was little, Lucas had a fling or two but after that, there had been no other women in his life. My guess is that he hasn't gotten over his first love and that's a red flag, Ella."
"I know, Charmer," I replied. "But I still need more information like where he works and places he frequents."
Aiden sighed, "Alright, I'll send them to your phone right now. I wrote them down after saying goodbye to Nova."
After hanging up, I waited and a few seconds later, Aiden sent me what I wanted most. I could not understand how he was able to get this information from Nova so easily but I was very grateful.
I sent him a thank you message and was surprised to see that Lucas played golf every Wednesday at The Kings' Club. My dad also played golf there but every Friday.
I was familiar with the place and a few people so I could easily get access to him and I had just the perfect idea on how to achieve that.
Another idea I had was paying him a visit in his office but that was going to come later.
Now that I felt so much better, I got out of bed and went into the kitchen to fix up something for myself. I saw Cam and smiled at him but he ignored me. I realized he was giving me the cold shoulder because I left him behind after promising to drop him at school.
Cam didn't like it when either my mum or dad dropped him off at school because he believed it made him look like a little child. He didn't have much of a choice though since he couldn't drive until he turned seventeen so he preferred to go with me since his high school wasn't so far off my college.
"I am sorry," I said, not really meaning it. For crying out loud I was late for my test and he was just going to slow me down and I would do the same thing if I found myself in such a situation again. But he did not have to know that. He was the only sibling I had and I liked it when we were cool with each other.
"It won't happen again, Cam," I lied before putting my plate of food in the microwave.
Cameron still ignored me and walked away. I rolled my eyes, why was he acting up when we both knew he would come around sooner than later?
My parents had finally returned to their places of work which meant that I could go out without having to explain myself to them. Tomorrow was going to be Wednesday and if I was to grab Lucas' attention, I needed to look more beautiful and attractive.
After eating, I quickly changed my clothes and went shopping. I had been told that black looked really good on me so that was my focus. I got a few sexy black gowns since I could not decide which of them was more beautiful. I also got more make-up, some shoes and bags before going back home.
It was the first time I had so much interest in something other than my books. I needed a mentor but Mrs. Flores was not an option. I knew she would not take it kindly to her daughter chasing a man who was twice her age, so I turned to the next best thing; the Internet.
I sought help on how to get Lucas' attention especially because Aiden had said that other than a few flings so many years ago, he had not shown an interest in any woman. It was both good and bad news for me.
Good because it meant he was available but bad because I had no idea about what he would find attractive in a woman. Nevertheless, I wasn't giving up on my very first love.
After much research, I finally settled on what I was going to say when I met him. They weren't many words though but I was hopeful that it would be a start to something beautiful; our love story.
After making sure that everything was ready for tomorrow, I finally relaxed and decided to focus on my studies and read some of my books but I couldn't, I was distracted.
It made me remember a line I had coined, about two years back when I discovered that Nova had feelings for Aiden, "Failure is one of the pitfalls of falling in love, especially while still in college." Back then, I had no idea that I would someday also fall into this trap.
