Chapter 14 Where’s he?

Chapter 14 Where’s he?
Brad
Ryan was out of town for business so I knew he won’t be coming for Anna’s party. That honestly discouraged me because I didn’t want to be at the party without him. I know he would tease me throughout but it was better him than gave Anna hover over me all night.
I couldn’t turn her down anyway. She asked reminded me of the party so many times that I’ve even lost count.
“Yeah, this is the address,” I said to the driver and then handed him my phone.
He looked at it and returned the phone in a minute, after which he started the car and zoomed off.
We finally oulled in front of her house and one thing that struck me was the silence. I intentionally didn’t come early so that people would have arrived and started the party before I come. It was all to minimize the interaction between Anna and I.
But then, here I was standing in front of the house and everywhere was so quiet. It didn’t look like a party was going on at all. I sighed and then made my way to the door. I pressed the doorbell once and she answered almost immediately as if she was waiting by the door.
“Brad! You came!” She exclaimed and then jumped right in my arms and hugged me tightly.
“I’m so happy you came, I thought you lied to me.” She added while I gently pulled away from her.
“I would never do that, I keep to my words.” I affirmed and she blushed.
“Pardon my manners, please come in!” She stepped aside and I went in while she shut the door behind and joined me.
I got to the living room and was surprised to see an empty room. Not one single person was there. There wasn’t even one ballon in sight which made it clear that she had it all planned. She wasn’t throwing any party, she just wanted the two of us together and the party was her excuse.
“I thought you said you’re having a party. Why is the whole place empty?” I asked while she sunk into the sofa and immediately started crying.
“I know right. I think they all hate me. I invited them but no one showed up. You’re the only one who has good intentions for me. Thank you once again. I won’t take it for granted.” She explained but I could see through her ahd I know her well too. She’s only doing damage control. She definitely planned it all.
“I’m so sorry about that. They probably couldn’t come because of some reasons.” I chimed in, not wanting to press further because she would just keep pretending. And I don’t even want her crying when I’m here.
“It’s their loss. We get to eat the cake alone and the wine too!” She exclaimed and then pulled off the cover on the table. I didn’t even know something was there but she had a cake there and beside it was a bucket filled with ice and a bottle of champagne.
“Let the party begin!” She screamed.
She popped open the wine and poured two glasses. She was sipping hers while I was rushing mine, eager to leave as soon as possible.
“What’s wrong? Why are you rushing your drink? Are you in a hurry to leave? Do you want to abandon me like the others did too?” She quizzed and before I could say a word, she came over and sat on my lap.
“What are you…” she placed her finger on my lip and stopped me.
She pulled her dress off her shoulder to reveal her cleavage and when I tried to look away, she pulled back my head and dipped her lips into my mouth.
“What? You don’t like it?” She asked when I quickly pushed her off.
“What do you mean by don’t I like it? Am I supposed to like it?” I countered while she smiled and reached to touch my chest but I held off her hand.
“Relax, I’m not trying to do anything you don’t already want. I really like you and I know you do too. Eveyone knows there’s a deep connection between us so why deny it? I’ve waited for so long for you to say something but it seems like you’re not ready to do anything. That’s why I took it upon myself to make a move.” She let out while I just laughed. That was the only reaction I could think of because I wasn’t expecting anything of sort from her. I know she has a crush on me but I didn’t expect her to actually act on it, when I’ve never given her any signal that I want it too.
“Why are you laughing?” She asked.
“Because it’s funny. Did you hear what you said too? I mean you made a whole decision on my behalf without consulting me at all. Well sorry to burst your bubble but I’m not interested in you. I’m no way in love with you and besides, we’re colleagues. Isn’t that against the work ethic?” I let out.
“No body will know if we don’t tell them.” She chimed in.
“Ohh really, and you believe you can hide such? You already hover over me with nothing between us. Now imagine we’re a couple.” I let out and though I know she was going to refute it, she knows deep inside her that it’s the truth. Anna isn’t a gentle person that can keep such secret. Tomorrow morning and everyone at the office will already know what went down tonight.
I have a plan for my quest so I can’t have people all up in my business. That’s the first reason why I can’t even date her and the most important one is that I don’t love her. I’ve never seen her more than a colleague and that’s not going to change.
“But I love you,” she insisted but I wasn’t going to indulge in anymore conversation. I grabbed my phone and made for the door but she ran and jumped in front of the door, blocking the way so I wouldn’t leave.
“Please I need to go. There’s nothing left to talk about. It’s never going to happen and that’s final. I’m not going to change my mind.” I said sternly but she still wouldn’t bulge.
Just then, a loud bang came on the door and a cold shiver went through my body. She also looked scared and quickly moved away from the door.
“Who is there?” She asked in a shaky tone.
“Open this door right now, Cici or I’ll break it down!” He wasn’t talking, he was literally roaring.
“What does he want with you? Are we even safe?” I asked her nervously but he happened to catch my voice and roared again.
“Yeah, I caught you now. So it’s not a lie, you’re really cheating on me? After everything I’ve done for you!” He continued yelling while she finally opened the door.
That didn’t seem like a good idea and I tried to tell her but she wouldn’t listen. He was spilling more than she wanted me to hear so she was willing to face his wrath, rather than have him expose her.
The guy came in and didn’t see me at first because I quickly hid behind the door. He grabbed Anna and started asking for me.
“Where is he?” He shouted and I was torn between helping her or running away.
“Run!” Anna shouted and that was all I needed to hear.
I ran so hard that I was scared I was going to fall and lose my life. The guy saw me as I bolted out of the door and he tried to catch me, but I think Anna pulled him, because I heard a loud bang like they both fell. I didn’t stop to check anyway. I just kept on running…
