Chapter 62
Celestia's test results were really bad, and I didn't know what to do for a moment.
The Greer family kept causing trouble again and again, and I failed to protect my daughter.
Last time Jessa tried to use Celestia as a stepping stone, and broke Celestia's hand. This time, Celestia got hurt by Arabella again because she was protecting me.
I felt I'd let my daughter down. Suddenly, I had this overwhelming sense of failure. If Levi and I split up one day, would Celestia really be better off with me?
I was confused.
I would protect Celestia with my life, but accidents don't give you any time to prepare, just like what happened today - completely out of control.
All night long, I was stuck in self-blame and self-doubt. I even became afraid of divorce. Without Levi's protection, I really didn't know if I could take good care of my daughter.
I guess a woman's vulnerability can happen in an instant.
Dawn broke in the east; finally, the day was coming.
I was planning to go see my daughter, but Indigo said Celestia had already been transferred. Aiden was worried, so he took the child directly back to the Morgan mansion to recover, with medical staff coming to treat her at home.
Indigo said the driver would pick me up in the morning, and Aiden specifically told me not to worry about the child and just focus on recovering at home.
I'll remember Aiden's kindness for the rest of my life. I felt completely at ease with Celestia at the Morgan mansion. Arabella was detained, and I figured the Greer family would definitely make a scene.
I felt so regretful. If I hadn't paid attention to Chase, I wouldn't have been so angry I fainted, and Celestia wouldn't have gotten hurt because of me.
I really underestimated how evil people can be, still hoping deep down that Chase had a shred of remorse.
I was just too naive. I still need more experience in this brutal world.
Levi came to pick me up himself, which I didn't expect at all.
When he held me in his arms, I even secretly shed tears.
We didn't talk the whole way. Silence, still the habitual silence.
The difference was that this time, he didn't blame me for not taking good care of Celestia. He didn't say I was useless.
"Mr. Morgan, someone seems to be blocking the car ahead," the driver said.
We were already at the gate - who would be blocking the car?
I opened the window, and cold air rushed in, making me shiver.
And it was this move that gave Jessa, who was blocking the car, an opening.
"Blair, my mom didn't mean it. I hope you can sign this settlement agreement. I'll pay for Celestia's medical expenses, okay?"
Jessa's hand was reaching in, but I pushed it out and quickly closed the window, lowering my head in panic.
"Levi, Levi..."
Jessa was banging on the car door excitedly. Her hands were red from the cold. If we didn't have bad blood, I might actually feel sorry for her.
"Mr. Morgan, do you want to get out?"
The driver was in a difficult position, too. Jessa was grabbing the rearview mirror, putting him in an awkward spot.
"Drive in first."
Levi seemed impatient, as if he didn't want to see Jessa at all.
But that was just my guess. After all, they had such a deep emotional foundation, and Jessa stood between us, constantly shaking Levi's emotions.
The driver honked to signal Jessa, and she jumped aside in fright. The car slowly drove into the yard. Indigo's car was in front, and she got out first.
Jessa immediately grabbed Indigo's arm. "Indigo, please help me ask Levi to let my mom go."
Indigo pushed her away. "Miss Greer, I'm nobody important; I really can't help you. Don't make things difficult for me, I need to hurry and cook."
"Indigo, I'm begging you, please help me..."
Jessa was really desperate, trying anyone. But this matter was unforgivable - asking anyone probably wouldn't help.
Unless Levi felt sorry for her. After all, she was kind of his sweetheart.
Even though Levi cared about her, I believed in Celestia's place in Levi's heart. On matters of principle, he shouldn't change his attitude.
The car stopped. I glanced at Levi and got out first.
Levi seemed like he wanted to say something, but stopped. I didn't know what he wanted to say.
I didn't want to argue with Jessa. I wasn't in good shape either. I'd leave this situation for Levi to handle. I couldn't control what he did.
"Blair, don't go. Let's talk about this."
Jessa came forward and grabbed me. I struggled to shake off her hand.
"Is this your idea of talking? Besides, we have nothing to discuss." I hated how she kept pestering people.
"My mom didn't mean it. She feels terrible about accidentally hurting Celestia."
I was speechless.
"I didn't see any remorse on your mom's face. Don't make excuses for her. I can never forgive this. I insist on going through legal procedures."
Jessa was blocking my way. Only when Levi came over did she shift her target.
"Levi, I asked about the situation. My mom really didn't mean to hurt Celestia. There's a misunderstanding." Jessa was crying.
"Levi, the old issues between my mom and Blair's mom shouldn't affect our generation. You know me - I've tried to make peace with Blair several times. I want to get along."
I was so tired of hearing these same old lines...
"You hurt my daughter and still expect me to forgive you?"
Levi looked at Jessa with disappointment. "I've given you many chances. This time you crossed my line."
"Levi, my mom usually takes care of me. You know the concert tour is starting soon. Please forgive her, I need her."
"I'll apologize to you on her behalf, okay? I'll apologize to Blair, okay?"
Jessa suddenly dropped to her knees in front of me.
I immediately helped her up.
"You don't need to do this. I don't accept it."
I knew she was kneeling to show her determination, but I really hated this approach.
"Levi, look at her..."
Levi looked pained. "The partnership is over."
"What?"
Jessa panicked. "Levi, what do you mean the partnership is over? I don't understand. Don't scare me, okay?"
"The concert tour is canceled."
Levi was canceling his investment in her. What about that twenty million - would she have to pay it back?
"Levi, I know coming here today was presumptuous, but I really had no choice. Can I apologize for my mom?"
"Then go to jail in her place."
Levi's words were ice cold. Even I was a bit scared. His face was dark, as if anyone who said another word would be killed.
Jessa was completely flustered. She didn't expect Levi to tell her to replace her mother.
"Levi, after all these years together, don't you love me anymore? Didn't you say you'd marry me? I'm begging you, please?"
"Our fate has run its course."
With that, Levi walked toward me, completely ignoring Jessa's crying pleas.
Their fate had run its course? Levi didn't want her anymore?
