Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Weekend, sunny day.

It hasn't snowed yet this winter, and seeing snow in our city has become a luxury.

Nola said if we want to see snow, we should go somewhere further north.

But I can't just pack my suitcase and leave on a whim.

Levi didn't come home last night. I feel a bit ashamed about misunderstanding him. He was protecting me, which was a good thing, but I demanded an explanation from him.

Looking back, I was really being unreasonable.

Indigo was picking through vegetables and said gently, "Mrs. Morgan, you haven't cooked yourself in a long time; it seems like it started after you changed jobs."

"It was after Celestia went to summer camp."

Thinking about it carefully, it's been quite a while since Levi and Jessa reunited.

From my initial wake-up call to my current acceptance has also taken a long time.

Levi said no divorce that day, so we just have to keep things as they are for now.

"Mr. Morgan understands you well now and protects you carefully. You two have good days ahead."

"I just hope Celestia grows up healthy. As for him and me, I still have my principles."

I've already decided that if things get too difficult, I'll still leave Levi. We'll find a proper way to take care of Celestia.

Indigo pouted, "Mrs. Morgan, that's not the right way to think. You should look on the bright side of things."

"Jessa was making a scene in his office that day. I think we'll inevitably clash in the future."

"But why should you give up? It's not like Mr. Morgan isn't choosing you."

I smiled bitterly, "What if he doesn't choose me?"

Indigo was at a loss for words. She took the vegetables to wash them.

I know very well that instead of being led around by others, it's better to make plans in my own mind early on.

These days, things between Levi and me seem much better, but Jessa is an objective reality. Until Levi has a clear attitude, we could go our separate ways at any time.

Sunlight fell on my shoulders, warm and cozy.

Compared to working at the company, I actually prefer staying home and relaxing. Maybe I've gotten too comfortable these past few years, but I like this kind of quiet, simple time.

If the kids are well-behaved and your husband treats you well, life like this is actually enough.

I wandered around the living room for a while and decided to call Levi.

"Hello?"

"Um, I'm planning to cook today. Are you coming home for lunch?"

I thought to myself, if I hadn't wrongly accused him, I wouldn't be making him a special meal.

"I'm on my way home."

"Oh."

We both just listened to the static on the phone.

"Do you need anything else? I can pick it up on the way."

"No need, I'm going to start cooking now. Bye."

Such an ordinary sentence moved me. This was the first time Levi had asked if we needed anything at home. He never bothered with these trivial matters.

We have people specifically to handle these things, but hearing him say it made me a bit happy. I felt like he had changed somehow.

"Mrs. Morgan, what's making you so happy?"

Indigo saw me smiling and asked curiously.

"Nothing, nothing."

I went to the kitchen and started preparing lunch. Not having cooked in so long, I was a bit rusty.

……

The table was full of dishes Levi liked. Since I wanted to apologize, I had to show absolute sincerity. I waited for him to wash his hands, watching him walk over step by step.

Indigo finished decanting the wine and left. Only the two of us remained in the dining room.

Levi sat down and scanned the table.

"Is today some special occasion?"

"No, it's not."

I picked up my wine glass, about to take a sip, when he stopped me.

"Don't you know your alcohol tolerance?"

I awkwardly put down the glass. To avoid repeating past embarrassing incidents, I'd better not touch any alcohol.

I picked up some food, wanting to put it in his bowl, but then felt that would be too deliberately nice to him. I don't want to fawn over him.

"About you sending people to protect me, thank you."

"It's nothing."

I caught a glimpse of pride on Levi's face, as if he hadn't taken it to heart at all.

And here I'd been dwelling on it, thinking my attitude was too intense at the time.

I had to find a new topic.

"Celestia is coming back tomorrow. She called to tell me."

"My cousin is coming too."

"What?"

Levi took a sip. "My cousin is coming back with her."

"Will she stay at our place or go to the Morgan mansion?"

"Our place."

He also said, "Our place." I think I'm going crazy. These are the most ordinary words possible, but hearing him say them gives them a different flavor.

"Today's food is good."

Levi started eating heartily. He looked hungry.

"It's just home cooking."

I studied recipes and figured it out myself. I don't know if it tastes good, but it's definitely clean and healthy. This fits Levi's preferences.

After the meal, Levi and I had tea in the living room. It was his suggestion.

He said he wanted to taste the tea.

In the Morgan family, only Aiden and I like drinking tea.

The tea's aroma filled the air, refreshing and pleasant.

I looked at my tablet while revising design drawings.

Levi looked at his phone for a while, then took an envelope from his bag.

"Fashion show invitation. Interested?"

I put down what I was doing and opened it to look.

"Not interested."

"Then give it to your friend, or you could go together."

The steam from the tea created a hazy layer in front of him. From this angle, Levi looked kind of handsome, momentarily like that innocent young man from years ago.

"Nola would definitely like it."

This gift was right up her alley. If I gave it to Nola, she'd definitely be thrilled. Levi doesn't hand things out casually, but whatever he thinks is good must be a rare opportunity.

These two invitations represent both the Morgan Group and his social connections.

Curiosity killed the cat - suddenly, I don't know which nerve misfired.

"Why don't you give them to Jessa instead? She'd probably really want to go."

Levi's expression changed instantly. Bringing up Jessa at this moment was really tactless. Women are strange creatures, always wanting to bring up things that make them sensitive.

"The tea is good. I'll have it again next time."

Levi stood up, glanced at his watch. "Don't wait for me for dinner."

"You're going out now? It's the weekend."

I stood up. I noticed a trace of fatigue in him.

"Grandpa arranged something."

"Oh."

Since Aiden arranged it, it must be to meet someone important.

I leaned against the doorway, watching him get in the car and drive away.

Suddenly, I came to my senses - has he been spending more time with Aiden lately?

Today's Levi seemed less cold. I'm genuinely happy that he can spend more time with Aiden. Back then, I caused tension between them, and now that things are better, it's really a good thing.

Levi said his cousin is coming back with Celestia and will stay at our house. Looks like I need to prepare. She's a guest, and it's our first meeting - I need to make sure she's comfortable.
