Chapter 49

Chapter 49

The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I stayed in my room with the lights off.

Levi was probably in the study. I hoped he wouldn't come back tonight.

Tossing and turning, I called Nola.

"Hello, Blair."

Loud music instantly filled my ears. Nola must be at a bar again.

"Didn't you mention a business trip? I'll go."

I didn't want to see Levi for the next few days. Might as well use a business trip as an excuse to leave for a while. Besides, Celestia wasn't home anyway.

"Sure, sure, let's talk tomorrow."

"Can we leave now?"

I couldn't wait to go. Even an evening flight would be fine.

"Really? That dedicated? It's the two of us going this time, and I haven't even packed yet."

This was a surprise attack for Nola.

Before I could respond, Nola found a quiet spot.

"Are you in a bad mood? I'll book the tickets right now. We'll fly in a bit. Forget about whether it's a business trip or not—I'll take you to clear your head."

Was my unhappiness that obvious? How did she see through me so quickly?

"Send me your location, I'll pick you up."

"Okay."

I packed quickly and dragged my suitcase downstairs.

Seeing this, Indigo rushed over.

"Mrs. Morgan, where are you going? It's not that serious—couples argue sometimes." Indigo was really panicking.

"I'm going on a business trip."

I forced a smile. "I'm leaving the house in your hands. I'll be gone for a few days."

"Oh, I see. Are you leaving now? Let the driver take you—it's not safe to drive this late."

"It's fine, I need to pick up a colleague."

Indigo's eyes were red. She was probably worried about Levi and me, too.

When I started the car, I saw Levi. He'd returned to the living room and was talking to Indigo about something.

'Finally, don't have to see him...'

My mood lifted a bit as I left the house.

The flight of several hours left me exhausted. When Nola and I got to the hotel, we slept like logs. When we woke up again, a whole day had passed.

The sea breeze blew in, cool and comfortable.

Celestia sent me a message saying she was fine and not to worry about her.

Nola went to meet clients. To let me completely relax, she had me spend a wonderful afternoon on the beach.

In the evening, we had a seafood feast. Everything was wonderful.

Nola peeled the last lobster and handed it to me. "Blair, you should get out more. Look at you—these past few years, you've been home every day. You've missed so much good food."

"It's cleaner at home."

This was something Levi often said. He didn't like eating out and thought the food at home was healthier.

Actually, you could eat these things at home too, but the feeling of having fun outside was something you could never experience at home.

"Home is so boring. I really don't want to go back at all. Every time I go home, it's just nagging about marriage. What era are we in?"

"Uncle Finn is just worried about your future, hoping someone will take care of you."

Nola pouted. "Do you think Levi takes care of you?"

Then she covered her mouth.

"Never mind, never mind, I'm talking nonsense. Just pretend you didn't hear that."

I smiled. "Marriage... how can I put it? Even though he hasn't taken care of me much, I haven't been afraid of anything in these past few years."

These years with the Morgan family, I really had become much braver. No more wandering around, and since getting married, I hadn't felt like I was living under someone else's roof.

Levi was cold to me, but he never made me feel unsafe.

"Why are we talking about unhappy things again? I promised to help you relax. Let's not rush back these next few days—let's play a bit more."

We played for two more days, but the company really couldn't be left unattended, so we headed back.

On the way, Nola complained, calling me a workaholic. I knew she hoped I'd have less pressure, but right now Heartstrings Jewelry's development required so much energy.

...

After several days away, new plants had been added to the yard.

Indigo said Levi had specifically ordered them.

I was about to go to my room to rest when Indigo handed me a cup of coffee.

"Mrs. Morgan, could you please take this coffee to Mr. Morgan? I still need to make another dish for you."

Though I wasn't happy to see Levi, I was willing to do this small thing.

You can't avoid someone you live with. I knew Indigo's intention—she just hoped Levi and I could ease up a bit, not be so cold.

When I entered Levi's study, he was on the phone in the lounge.

I put the coffee on the desk and immediately saw photos of me.

They were very detailed photos—me eating, drinking, laughing, at the hotel, on the beach...

I flipped through them one by one, frowning.

Had Levi sent someone to follow me?

"You're back?"

Levi looked at me lazily and took a sip of coffee.

"Aren't you going to explain? These photos..."

I just went on a business trip for a few days—did he need to spy on me? And did he even care about me that much?

"Meeting a friend for lunch. Eat by yourself."

Levi put on his jacket, grabbed his phone, and left. I knew it was pointless to ask him—he never explained anything he did.

The desk was full of photos, hundreds of them. What kind of weird hobby was this? Why photograph me?

And I'd been completely unaware these past few days. I hadn't known someone was secretly taking pictures of me.

My good mood ended completely. I was once again shrouded in the unhappiness Levi gave me.

I paced back and forth in the yard. Indigo came out to call me for dinner.

"Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Morgan went out. You should eat first—you must be tired from the trip."

"What's wrong, Mrs. Morgan?"

Indigo tilted her head, looking at me carefully.

"I can't believe it. While I was on this business trip, he actually sent someone to follow me."

"Mrs. Morgan, you've misunderstood Mr. Morgan."

Indigo said with a smile, "The night you left, it was very dark. Mr. Morgan was worried, so he arranged for a bodyguard to secretly protect you. He followed you on your business trip."

"What?"

"It's true. I heard it clearly—he said to make sure you were safe."

So those photos were proof from the bodyguard that I was safe?

This was unbelievable. Levi had actually arranged a bodyguard for me...

"Mrs. Morgan, Mr. Morgan cares about you. After you two had that fight and you left, he smoked in the living room."

My heart tightened. "He doesn't smoke, does he?"

"Mr. Morgan doesn't have that habit, but I've watched him grow up. Every time he's really anxious, he smokes to cope."

This was a side of Levi I really didn't know. I never knew this part of him.

The Levi I saw was proud, never showing a moment of defeat.

"Mrs. Morgan, believe me, Mr. Morgan definitely has feelings for you. You two didn't get upset about the photos again, did you?"
