Chapter 104

Chapter 104

I clutched the star tightly in my palm.

I always felt that this star and I were somehow connected.

I continued picking up the pieces, and the anger in my heart gradually faded.

"Stop picking them up. If it's broken, just let it be." Levi grabbed my arm from behind, trying to help me up.

I struggled twice and shook him off, then stood up holding the fragments.

"If we're both miserable, then maybe we should just get divorced."

I mustered up the courage to say the word divorce. I couldn't stand Jessa staying in my house; I hated how they had no boundaries, and what I couldn't tolerate most was Levi's silence.

"Why divorce?"

"Because of your attitude."

I looked at him seriously. "Every time there's a problem between us, you never communicate with me directly."

"I told you I'll handle it."

Levi sat down, hand on his waist.

"You always drag your feet with my issues. With Jessa and Michael's situation before, you got to the bottom of it in one night. You just don't want to deal with this. Is asking Jessa to leave really that hard for you?"

"That's different."

"It's the same!"

I said loudly, "Levi, if you favor her, fine, I have no problem with that. But don't drag it out, okay? We have a daughter. Do you think it's appropriate to let her live here?"

"Our daughter is smart. Just because she doesn't say anything doesn't mean she doesn't mind."

Celestia used to like Jessa, really liked her. But after Jessa hurt her again and again, Celestia became sensitive about her.

I looked at him. His eyes were dark and deep.

"See, you're silent again. You're always like this. Ha, what can I do? Do you think I'm crazy?"

"No."

I looked up at the ceiling. I didn't know how to communicate with him. Even when I hysterically spoke my true feelings, he would still calmly avoid the topic.

Every single time.

Heartbroken every single time.

Levi reached out his hand. "Give it back."

I froze. "What?"

"The star in your hand."

He saw me hide the star. I wanted to sneak a look at it.

"Is it important to you?"

"Yes."

Levi said it mattered to him.

A star moved him. I saw the tension in his expression.

"A gift from someone?"

He nodded. "Yeah."

I slowly opened my palm. It was a pink star, actually quite ordinary, but from his expression, he clearly treasured it.

"A little girl gave this to me."

I smiled bitterly. "Don't tell me it's your first love?"

Was his first love Jessa?

"At a forest park, our whole family went on an outing. My sister and I went to pick mushrooms. She ran fast, and I couldn't keep up, so we got separated."

"Later, I heard someone crying. I thought it was my sister, so I followed the sound."

Levi's eyes were full of tenderness as he recalled the past. He told the story slowly, and my heart softened along with it.

"I saw a girl sitting on the ground crying. She only had one shoe left. She said she didn't know where she lost her shoe..."

"How could there be such a clumsy girl, right? Losing a shoe like that... but she was pretty cute."

My mind suddenly lit up. The anger disappeared, and instead, my memories became clearer.

I remembered going to a forest park with my parents for an outing, then I lost a shoe while running. A big boy helped me find it and cheered me up. In the end, I wanted to thank him, but all I had on me was a pink star my mom had helped me fold...

Levi's lips curved up. "Later, she insisted on giving me a gift, but besides the crushed mushrooms next to her, all she had was this star."

"She gave you the star?"

"Yeah."

"You didn't tell each other your names?"

I thought back repeatedly. I didn't seem to know that big boy's name. Maybe we weren't experiencing the same event. Levi is so cold - he couldn't be that sunny big boy.

"We did."

My ears perked up. "What was her name?"

My heart was pounding. Levi was a few years older than me, which fit the age of that big boy.

I remembered our two families' camping tents weren't far apart, but my mom always preferred peace and quiet and didn't want to interact with others, so I didn't go find him.

I had my favorite strawberry cake and wanted to share it with him, but my dad said it was too late and we had to go home.

Levi gathered the wooden pieces before him and began putting them together.

"What was her name?"

"You're very curious?"

Of course, I was curious. The story he told was very similar to my childhood experience. I knew there were many similar things in this world, but the details were so alike.

"Tell me or don't."

My mind was a mess. If he really was that big boy I met once as a child, I would be truly amazed.

"Jessa."

This was the first time hearing that name didn't bother me. My heart skipped a beat. If time went back to childhood...

Back then, my name was Jessa Greer.

In this city, probably no one else had that name. Did Levi know it was me? Why, when I stood in front of him, did he show no reaction at all?

Normally, if he said "Jessa," I would have exploded. But at this moment, I couldn't speak.

"There's a bit more here."

I crouched down to pick up the remaining pieces on the floor. Tears inexplicably blurred my eyes. Was he treating the current Jessa as his childhood me?

Could that be possible?

When Aiden brought me back to the Morgan family, I was already Blair. I was already an adult then, and Jessa was his childhood sweetheart.

When Jessa took my name, she and Levi didn't know each other yet.

So how could they be childhood sweethearts?

"I'll put it together. You help me look at the company documents."

Levi wanted me to help him review documents?

"Let me put it together. Company matters are so important."

Suddenly, I wasn't so angry anymore. When I thought he might be that big boy I met as a child, my temper completely vanished.

"I've basically looked through them all. You just need to sign your name."

I was reluctant inside. I'd never done anything like this. Even when I was his secretary, he never had me do this kind of thing.

"It's not quite appropriate. If something goes wrong..."

"I'll take responsibility."

Levi's words were like a reassurance pill. I felt sorry for breaking his things, so helping him with some work wasn't out of the question.

"I didn't expect that you and Jessa had this kind of history. You really are childhood sweethearts."

I deliberately said this to Levi to see his reaction, but he showed no expression.

He stood up and switched places with me. I sat in his chair and stole a glance at him.

"You really care about this star. Such an ordinary star - there are tons of them."

Levi put the star back into the model. "It's different."
