Chapter 4
“I might not be as logical as you are, but I know this mission you're planning to embark on is suicide!"
Peter exclaimed as he gestured with his breaths storming out heavily. He was restless and this was bound to happen to anyone upon hearing the infamous name, Green.
“Peter would you at least let me concentrate for a moment." I whined as I rubbed through my messy hair looking for the perfect spell in my mother's spell book.
His brows arched into a deeper frown as he neared my table with his eyes flaring in obvious disbelief.
“Zeus if nobody is going to tell you the truth, I will!" He barked, almost hitting the table.
“This is madness!" He blurted. "I know you love to take delight in life threatening missions but this, this one is a no for me!
We're talking about Green here, she's a beast!" His pitch increased with fervent fear burning in his tone, but I kept on watching him dramatize.
“Her name alone is a nightmare for children let alone adults like us. Yet you still want to risk your life for this mission. All for Alfred? That bastard, that traitor who betrayed us and almost blew our cover! What if he does the same thing again?
Or have you forgotten that the Lycan still thirsts for your head up to this day! You abducted his family and made him pay MILLIONS of dollars just to get them back. Yet you want to march back into his Pack. The same place the community leaders would be meeting. The Dragon Lord, The Regent, Green and the Lycan himself!”
No Zeus," he pursed his lips whilst wriggling his head. "This mission is too risky for us." I frowned.
“There's no us. I'm doing this all by myself."
“Hey! This is not the time to wear your lone wolf coat alright!" He blared again. "Not for a mission that your probability of surviving is less than one percent."
“All the more reason I want to do it." I smiled but deep inside I was already tired of Peter trying to change my stance.
“So, you think if the mission isn't in our favor I would go?" I scoffed. "I'm not stupid."
“Your head must have hit something today,” he growled with his hands curled into a fist. "A mission "Well if you've been hearing yourself from the very beginning you would know, you are." He rolled his eyes. I chuckled before strolling about the small room equipped with assortments of spell book laced in shelves. I was looking for the right spell. The right book on how to tame a monster. Whether I liked it or not, I was powerful but Green, is a woman on another scale entirely.
“There are two reasons while I'm going for this mission." I muttered as I stopped to slip out a book. One of my Mother's special books which mainly contained spells an average Witch couldn't handle.
“Payback." I stated icily as I returned to the small round table in the center.
“Alfred betrayed us; this is the perfect way to pay him back in his own coin. Once this mission is successful, he's not getting a dime. And trust me, if he dares to follow my trail then I won't hesitate in killing him."
I mumbled with a smile as I gradually slipped through pages.
“And the second one?" He asked on a calm note. I could feel his eyes on me, trying to decipher what was really transpiring in my mind.
I gulped my saliva as flash images of my dreams recurred.
“The necklace Alfred showed me, is the exact one I've been having in my dreams." I looked deep into his eyes. His brown irises tried so hard to conceal their shock, but he failed miserably. He was drowned in several boggling thoughts just like I was.
“I can't help but think, what if this dream means something. That perhaps Green is my mate."
He sighed and then rubbed through his messy hair.
“Well, it's not a new thing that the moon goddess now pairs us with other species." He paused with his eyes now fixated to the table.
“But let's just hope this theory of yours isn't true. You being paired with a Vampire and not just an ordinary one, is the last thing I would want for you."
I sighed. The whole idea of the mate thingy with Green was enough to drown one in thoughts.
“What if, this dreams of her you're having means your end." Peter's voice broke my thoughts.
“Seriously?" I muttered with heavy dose of sarcasm as I wriggled my head.
“I'm just saying it's a likely possibility."
“No, it's not." I affirmed, recalling how impulse had been so ecstatic earlier.
“That's why I have to see her. To confirm if she's my mate or not."
“And if she is?" He asked with fear hinting slightly in his tone.
“Then praise be to the moon goddess." I chuckled but he still maintained his stern look. He was right to be worried, she was probably more of a curse than a blessing.
“How do you plan on succeeding this mission?" He finally asked.
“Voila!" I pitched as I dropped the book noisily on the table while my finger ranged to a particular page.
He stared at the page for a while before returning his glance at me. He repeated the same thing again and soon disbelief was evident in his countenance.
“You've got to be kidding me,” he remarked with heavy emphasis on disappointment.
“I'm no ordinary Wolf Peter." I replied and indeed I wasn't. I was a hybrid with Werewolf and Witch blood. The first ever born in the Hunter Family and perhaps in our world.
“Just because you're a Serpent Wolf doesn't mean you're on par with Green. She's immune to spells of average witches. And to be honest, your witch powers is just slightly above an average one." He pursed his lips as his eyes returned to the page again. "In one word, you're deceiving yourself if you think you can win."
“This is why I hate you." I whined. "Always being so realistic. At least be optimistic for once!"
“Not when you're dealing with the Queen of Vampires,” he noted. "Besides what is this spell?"
“Well, it's a lightning spell. It grants me the ability of lightning temporarily and can also dampen time to a certain extent."
“Zeus," he rubbed his face with a sigh following suit. "Aren't spells like this dangerous for your level. Average witches can't even activate this spell without dying in the process. This is too dangerous for you,” he muttered calmly but he knew better, I wasn't going to listen.
“I've been practicing, trust me." I smiled but I lied. I couldn't even remember the last time I had entered this room let alone touched my mother's books. The little spells I knew were enough.
“Yeah, the dusty room proves it all." He rolled his eyes.
“Either way, I have to do this on my own." I muttered, this time on a stern note.
“But this mission is too dangerous. You're my best friend and I can't allow you face this alone."
“I don't want to lose you, Peter," I replied, he sighed. "I don't want anyone else to get hurt. This mission is personal to me, and I want you to trust me on this one."
“Then promise me, that no matter what happens, you'll come out of this alive." He held my gaze, so I found it impossible to waver.
I sighed; I was going to meet a dangerous foe. One greater than the battles I've fought. I wasn't sure to be honest if I wanted death now or later, my acquaintance with her would be the judge.
“I promise."
